Waching daily Nov 5 2018

I'm Steve Nelson with another Caltrans News Flash. Two striping projects in the

Sacramento area included installing 65 route shields on the roadway to help

motorists navigate the busy freeway network. Let's take a closer look at how

they were installed and what they look like.

These routes shield pavement markers make it easier for motorists to know the

proper lane to be in when approaching an interchange. It looks like it's going to

make it a little bit easier to find your exit and kind of plan ahead so you're

not zipping across lanes. Yeah, I think anything that helps people plan ahead

and make smarter decisions on the road it's good for everybody that's out there.

Well, I'm from Sacramento and, one thing, I did notice them

as soon as they were put out because I'm from Sacramento and I thought, you know,

big city - Sacramento - little city becoming a big city - helping people know

that when they get here, you know, this is where you got to go if you're lost or

this is your exit. I think it's helpful. They improve safety by giving motorists

advance notice so they will be less likely to move erratically to change

lanes at the last second. Striping projects like these are an example of

how Senate Bill 1 is helping make roadways all across California safer for

motorists. With another Caltrans News Flash, I'm Steve Nelson.

Hello! Welcome to Panther News - Middle School. My name is Damien. My name is

Karlie. First off, First day of school!

Welcome back!

Sports, BEAT, and ASR. We want you to be involved to help your school!

Elementary, are you ready to go back to school?

That looked like fun. Our first day of school and the barbecue. I missed it but

that would have been enjoyable.

Let's look now at German Shepherd dogs.

Hello! I want to talk to you about dogs.

German shepherds, did you know that a small German Shepherd lives 9 to 13 years.

Their bite force is about 238 pounds of pressure.

The male weigh approximately 66 to 88 pounds. A female weighs 49 to 58 pounds.

It can be a service dog and help deaf people and help blind people.

German Shepherds can work for the police, the military, the Navy, and search-and-rescue and

find drugs to keep people safe and track them. Thank you for watching us!

Bye-bye

I have that kind of dog at home. Now there is the history of Halloween.

Welcome back to Panther News! My name is Daevanie.

My name is Leslie. We're going to talk about the history of Halloween.

How did Halloween get started? It began as a festival of Samhain. It's a festival of the

dead. One hundred fifty-seven million people prepare for a Halloween festival.

How is it celebrated? It's celebrated by many Americans with Halloween costumes.

In some countries, they don't celebrate Halloween

like we do in Mexico, Great Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and China.

It started on the 1970. Happy Halloween!

Very interesting that you researched Halloween and how it was founded.

Next, we'd like to see the next video about inside Earth.

Inside Earth Hello, my name is Damien. Hello, my name is Alan. We're gonna talk

about what is inside our Earth. We learned a lot from the Katie's class we had in

science. We're talking about the earth being covered in water and grass. There's

also a thing called the continental crust. Sometimes, it breaks a little.

There's also an upper mantle

and that is closer to the surface.

There's also a lower mantle, outer core, and inner core. You can see those shapes and

how it's divided and where it's warm and

the inner core is much more warm. Now we can talk about gravity. That's how we

stay on the earth. Gravity helps people to connect to the earth.

Thanks for watching us and have a great weekend.

My class learned about that in earth science and now we'd like to talk about

Middle School cross country.

We need to start when the gun starts. No false starts.

Are you ready? You see the finish line? Run quickly across it.

Don't stop before it. Stop past it and they'll time you.

Everyone understand? Look at the yellow flag.

Good work Damien. Thank you and thank you for those who participated in cross

country. Good job! Now we'd like to show you a video about soccer highlights

from Middle school.

Hi everyone! Hello!

Hello!

Hi, my name is Kobe. This is David and this is Jesse.

I'm middle school coach. I have some questions for you. What is the biggest

challenge this year that you've had? Well, most of the players have not had much

experience, just a few. So it's been a challenge and we've taught the basic

foundations of soccer this whole season. They've shown great improvement. To

add to that, it's been a challenge because of the number. We've had 32

players, still managing that group of kids. That's a challenge. How do you

manage that big group? It's been tough. You know, we're deaf.

Jessie can speak but you know there's a challenge. We've written notes back and

forth. It's been fun. I think the challenge is how making sure that

everyone understands, making sure that communication and that we're all on the

same page. I have to explain the other information, you know. We have to

coordinate together - as good communicators to each other. Are you

looking forward to next year? Yes, I'm looking forward to more kids. I don't

care, how big the group. It's truly enjoyable. I hope, for next year

that many of the students, not just OSD, but JGEMS as well, that they practice.

We'd like to be them to feel comfortable with the ball and not be afraid of the ball. So that the other teams

recognizes that at the beginning of the season, they were a little bit scared and

then their confidence grew, for many of them. Really, they truly improved as

players, I would say some improved. Oh yes, the improvement. last year was the first

year of experience. Lots of learning and now same with some of Jessie's comments.

Some people have grown up with soccer but some have not. It's a different

mindset. So these are new experiences. It's a fun challenge for

us. We've really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for the interview! Anything else to

add? I'd like to add we need to recruit more deaf players. JGEMS has

plenty but for OSD, we'd love to have equal numbers of our kids as well

we want more of our students from OSD but at the same time. I hope that they can tell

others about this experience as well. Great! Looking forward to next year! Thank

you so much!

I wish I could have joined soccer. Darn it!

Deaf Awareness Day. Let's look at that.

As sign language grew here in America, we can be thankful.

...it equates to certification. Remember when you asked for a certified...

Friends and fellow, ASL is important to us, too!

Next is what?

...like to introduce our special guest. Who knows Sheena? You know Sheena.

Here are different TV shows on PBS

Every year in September, we have Deaf Awareness Day. Its annual and it's a fun

event. Have a great weekend!

Ryan Reynolds Trolls Hugh Jackman With Fake Political Attack Ad | THR News - Duration: 1:49.

Ryan Reynolds is up to his old trolling ways but this time he's adding a political spin.

The 'Deadpool' actor posted a mock political ad on Twitter poking fun at 'X-Men'

alum Hugh Jackman. The video was posted Friday to Reynolds' Twitter page alongside

a caption tagging the Jackman that said, "How well do you really

know @RealHughJackman?" The video uses images of the 'X-Men' star in his current

film 'The Frontrunner,' in which he plays Gary Hart, a former Democratic senator

from Colorado, who becomes the Democratic frontrunner in the 1988 presidential

election, but the parody is used to make light of how Jackman is actually a frontrunner

for the 2018 awards season. "Hugh Jackman's upcoming performance in

'The Frontrunner' has fooled some people into thinking he deserves an award,"

said Reynolds, who is narrating the ad, "but before voting begins some people

should consider these facts." The video also sees Reynolds, who voices the mock-ad,

taking pointers from real political ads by revealing true? facts that voters might not

know about Jackman such as his name or where he grew up saying, "Hugh Jackman

isn't his real name, its Hugh Michael Jackman. Hugh Michael speaks with a

charming accent but he's actually from Milwaukee. He then walked off the job

on 'Wolverine,' adding to unemployment." Reynolds ends the video on a

complimentary note about the Aussie star:

"Is this the type of amazing actor and nice person we want delivering a preachy

liberal speech this award season?"

But does manage to squeeze in a last minute self promotion saying "Or maybe there's

a real foreigner from a bordering country who would really love it a lot,"

'The Frontrunner' opens in theaters Nov. 21 and also stars Vera Farmiga, J.K.

Simmons and Alfred Molina.

To see the mock political ad in full, head to THR.com and until next time

for The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Neha Joy.
