Last year I was still in high school.
When you get to university,
everything's different.
You have more freedom,
but sometimes you can feel a bit lost.
Placement tests / Continuous assessment tests
As a teacher you come across students
who are having problems.
Not because they're incapable,
but because
they haven't successfully crossed
the bridge between school
and university.
University calls for a different way
of working,
different rhythms.
Students have to adapt
to this new
environment.
Those who have trouble adapting
can sometimes fail their year
or even drop out
completely.
We try to support first-year students
in a number of ways.
Placement tests
are a way of assessing
how well equipped students
are to tackle and succeed
in the courses on offer.
It is important to make students understand
the need for regular work
throughout the semester.
The results of placement tests
and continuous assessment are analyzed.
Students are graded,
but this is to give them an idea
of where they stand
in relation to their peers,
in relation to what's expected of them.
It helps them to know
how they need to organize themselves.
So, what do you think about this placement test?
I see it as a challenge.
I'm in favour of this testing system,
because I think it can help me pass my exams.
Getting my degree
is my number one priority,
so I can start work
as quickly as possible.
A placement test
based on shared UNISCIEL data
is a way for teachers
to assess students' knowledge ans skills
and to identify weaknesses.
It tells teachers where they may need
to adapt course content,
offer refresher lessons,
and point students towards course material,
exercises and animations
