What's up, guys?
For Complex News, I'm Speedy Morman.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner just released their first-ever vintage t-shirt collection as part
of their Kendall + Kylie line.
And while that might seem like a cause for celebration for the sisters, seeing as how
it will provide them with yet another source of income, the vintage t-shirts that they
have created are coming under fire for disrespecting a handful of legendary musical acts.
And the money they're going to make off of the vintage tees might not be worth all
the negative publicity they're getting right now as a result of them.
Rather than simply showcasing a bunch of classic rock and rap acts on their vintage t-shirts,
Kendall and Kylie decided it would be a good idea to superimpose either images of themselves
or their initials on top of vintage shirts that were made for acts like Pink Floyd, Metallica,
The Doors, 2Pac, and The Notorious B.I.G. in the past.
And the 2Pac and Biggie shirts in particular have caused outrage among rap fans who can't
seem to wrap their heads around why the Jenner sisters thought that disrespecting two of
the greatest rappers of all time would be a good idea.
One of the shirts features a controversial Instagram post that Kylie put up back in 2015
superimposed over an old photo of 2Pac.
The IG post in question featured Kylie wearing cornrows, and when she initially put it up,
she was criticized for appropriating black culture in it.
So you can imagine what rap fans are saying now that she has taken that photo and put
it on top of a picture of 2Pac.
"Kendall & Kylie are really selling vintage Tupac shirts with a Instagram post overlayed
on top?
😐 bye."
Another vintage 2Pac shirt from the collection features the Kendall + Kylie brand's "KK"
logo" splashed across the front of a shirt with 2Pac's image in the background.
The big, bold letters appear in between the words "Fuck the world" and "only god
can judge me," and people have taken issue with Kendall and Kylie's approach on that
shirt as well.
Many of them have accused the sisters of being insensitive for associating their brand with
the deceased rapper's image.
"So who's gonna start flaming Kendall and Kylie for putting their trash initials
over Tupac's face?"
And Kendall and Kylie didn't stop there.
They also released a vintage t-shirt that features one of the most iconic images of
2Pac and Biggie along with, you guessed it, Kendall's photo superimposed on top of it.
The shirt is blowing some people's minds, and they can't make sense of it at all.
"This Kendall And Kylie vintage tee line is really blowing mine!
How are you gonna put your Insta pic over biggie & call it vintage?!
& PAC?!"
The good news for Kendall and Kylie is that, despite the controversy the t-shirts are causing,
it doesn't sound like it's slowing up sales.
The shirts are priced at $125, and at this time, a lot of them are sold out or available
in very limited quantities.
But Kendall and Kylie just can't seem to stop making headlines for the wrong reasons.
Kendall was, of course, involved in a very controversial Pepsi commercial earlier this
year that still has people scratching their heads.
And earlier this month, Kylie was accused of stealing a bunch of camo designs from a
black-owned business and passing them off as her own.
People say there's no such thing as bad publicity.
But at some point, all of this bad pub has to catch up with the Jenner sisters, right?
Guess we'll just have to wait and see how they manage to make headlines next.
