Hello and welcome to this Universem video series
regarding an essential part of your digital strategy;
user experience, or 'UX'.
I'm joined today by Thomas, the UX designer
who helped develop the app MyShopi.
So, Thomas, can you explain the term 'user experience'?
This interface between man and machine, or usability.
Of course! First, thanks for having me.
So, to explain the term 'user experience' in my own words,
I'd say it's a nice mix between the user's journey
and the feelings and emotions they feel when using a product, service or object.
To illustrate that with a practical example,
I'll take two banking apps, on a smartphone.
The first one, I use a lot. It works well, no complaints.
The second, I use a little less
simply because it doesn't let me do certain things.
It's difficult to input payees or I need a calculator to do certain tasks,
so I like it less.
That could be a simple example of a user experience problem.
Just as an example.
So the user feels some frustration with a bank app
when they have difficulty performing certain tasks.
Might you have another example of user satisfaction?
Yes, let's take another tangible example: a kitchen.
Everyone has a kitchen.
Imagine you have a kitchen delivered,
you assemble it, open the overhead unit,
and realise there's an extra detail.
There's a space for tidying away the little spice jars
that you use every day for meals, and it's built into the overhead unit door.
So that addresses a real problem because spice jars eat up shelf space
and we've resolved that problem through design,
thus creating a good user experience.
Thanks, Thomas, for explaining user experience.
It's basically the satisfaction or frustration a user might feel
when using your product, service or even your website.
We'll be discussing that next week,
as we dig deeper into the impact of user experience on conversion.
Can a user experience facilitate your conversions?
See you next week!
