English pronunciation. It's difficult, right? Most teachers don't spend much

time teaching it and it's not easy to teach yourself. I'm guessing you need

some help with your pronunciation. I'm a qualified English teacher and I

specialise in pronunciation. Here are my qualifications.

There are lots of useful and free pronunciation lessons on YouTube. But, you can't really

improve your pronunciation just from watching videos. You need a teacher to

tell you if you're saying things right.

I've created a pronunciation course that's unique because you learn from

videos but you interact with me by sending me recordings of what you learn

and I tell you if your pronunciation is right. You're doing an online course but

you're not alone. I'm listening to you at every stage. Now for something that's

going to make you happy. Because most of this course is on video it means it's

not expensive! And you can do the lessons whenever is convenient for you. You don't

need to find a time to meet a teacher on Skype. So if you're ready to buy this

course now, use the link below.

First round of golf ever: Loenen aan de Vecht 1297 - Duration: 4:22.

Whilst the game of golf in its current form was probably conceived in Schotland, it finds its origin in the Netherlands.

Already in early medieval times, Dutch villagers played a game called Colf on the only dry and flat surfaces available:the village streets.

The game was usually played with teams of 4 players each that hit the ball in turn. The rules were well established and similar to todays golf rules.

The first official Colf match was allegedly played to commemorate the lynching of the Lord of Loenen aan de Vecht in 1297.

The Lord of castle Kronenburg in Loenen, Gerard van Velzen had murdered the Lord of Muiden, Floris the Vth a year earlier.

He took refuge in his castle in Loenen after the murder with his accomplices (Gijsdbrecht van Amstel and the lord of Woerden)

After a siege of several months, he was drawn out of his castle and put in a spiked barrel that was rolled through the streets of Loenen until he died.

The exact route of the barrel was followed a year later by the Colf teams, commemorating the lynching of the unfortunate Gerard van Velzen.

This game was repeated every year for several hundreds of years till the early 1800's.

The route started at the old townhall/court of justice, to the Castle, next to the Windmill, the House te Velde, and finally back to the townhall

The first target was the kitchen door of the castle. The castle was destroyed after the lynching, all that remains is a meadow.

The team that hit the target with the least number of strokes received a free round of beer, the losers had to settle for apples.

The leather ball was placed on a "tit"of sand to ease the playing of the ball off the hard surface.

The old windmill actually stood on the same spot as the current one, rebuilt later.

The plan is to re-enact this event on a regular basis. For further information please write to info@oldcourseloenen.nl.
