Episode 5: Surrounded By A Cloud Of Witnesses - St Francis de Sales & Theresa Fischer - Duration: 6:43.

St. Francis de Sales was a man born in

the 16th century near Geneva Switzerland

and while growing up he desired a

vocation to the priesthood. His father

however desired something else.

His father desired for him something more

like law or politics and over time in

his 20s eventually he went to school and

he began to look into these things but

his heart still desired the priesthood.

Trying to discern what God's will would

be for his life he discovered that God

could work in very concrete and ordinary things.

When he was riding his horse one

day three times he fell off and every

time he fell off his horse his sword had

come out of its sheath and was placed in

a way in which it made a cross. The first

time he fell off the horse the cross and

cover the sword and cover made across the

second time the sword and cover made a

cross and the third time the sword and

cover made a cross and Francis

gave his life to follow him. In following

Him he discovered that many people were

being introduced to the devout life of

following Jesus that were in convents

or seminaries. It wasn't expected that

everyday ordinary people would have a

devout life and so he came up with a

very simple way to introduce them to Him.

Through patience he taught people to

wait for the presence of God.

Through prayer he taught people to ask for help

from God and through other people he

recognized the need to have another

guide in this world. Francis de Sales

helped thousands and thousands of people

discover the gift of the devout life for

following Jesus Christ and he did it for

ordinary everyday people. His father had

a desire for his life and certainly you

have desires for yourselves and for many

people that you love. Might this Lenten

season we be willing to let go of our

ideas of how those desires will come

about. Foreign providence Francis's

father's desire that his son would work

in law and politics came about but it

came about by teaching lawyers and

politicians how to devoutly follow Jesus Christ.

I'm a cradle Catholic. I've always

been a Catholic. My family's always been

Catholic. It's always been handed down to

me but the biggest thing was when I

would start making my faith my own and

the summer before freshman year I went

to my first D-Camp up in Irene at

Broom Tree

and I I first experienced Christ through

adoration. The something I've struggled

with the whole life and supposed

specifically was struggling with after

retreat was just how God saw me separate

from everybody else. Specifically like

within my family and how he loved me

specifically for me and who I was and I

just had an experience in adoration

where I just felt so loved individually

and specifically and that was kind of

the first time I felt that and then

everything everything changed after that.

Because I knew where everything came

from and why everything mattered and so

that year was kind of a struggle of how

do I live this? How do I make my life

different now that I know this is true

and this is who I live for? So I went

back to D-Camp the next summer and it

was kind of the same. Still like the

initial experience is still trying to

figure out who I was and what God's plan

was for me and then after that summer I

started to get more involved especially

through the nudging of my older sister.

She really pushed me to get involved

because she was getting involved and I

wanted to follow her so I got involved

with Y Disciple and GS and campus

ministry and I started to see that

Christ wasn't just in adoration. That he

was everywhere. He was in the people that

I encountered. In the situation's I went through.

And that really changed me because I

started to live with more joy and I

started to love myself more and be more

open to who I was as God's child and

that started to help all my

relationships. With my family with my

friends with adults in my life and I

really started to see Christ in other people.

Through that D-Camp and also

through mentorship that I've developed

with other people I learned how to pray

and even if I encountered Christ through

other people if I didn't have that

foundation of prayer it was really hard

to discern through all of that and just

recognize all of that and so through

these people that taught me how to pray

I really I think that's the area which

I've most grown this past year is prayer.

May St. Lambert intercede for us.

Our lady watch over us and

and our Lord and savior Jesus Christ reveal himself to us

and when He does may we change.
