Hey there!
Welcome to another of Bruno's Trips!
In this episode we will be visiting the south of Spain.
Let's go!
Today we are in southern Spain in the province called...
Almería
And we are going to the city of Mojácar.
Emma, did you know Walt Disney was born in Mojácar?
Emma: It's not true.
Bruno: Why is it not true?
Emma: What do you mean Walt Disney was born here?
Bruno: He was adopted.
He wasn't born in Chicago.
He was adopted then when he died they found
some papers in his office in a safe that said he was born
here in Mojácar.
His name is supposed to be José Guirao Zamora.
You believe in that?
Do you believe Disney was a Mojacarean?
Emma: Mojacarean?
Bruno: Mojaquian?
Emma: I don't know how you say it.
** Legend exists, but probably false **
Bruno, you see, when they resurrect him...
Bruno: Because he's frozen!
In cryogen, whatever.
Emma:... they should ask him!
City gate.
This was the city entrance in the 15th century.
Emma: These here are houses.
Bruno: The house is down there.
Emma: This is where you go in.
Bruno: The house is down there, you can hang out on the roof and see the Mediterranean over there.
Each house has its own name.
Look how nice these flowers are.
And it's still summer.
Emma: Catarina Guevara's house.
Emma: This is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Spain.
The villages here in Andaluzia are...
They are called while villages.
Because that way they are protected from the heat.
We're going to see the church.
Just like any other old town in Spain, there is a church.
Heaven and hell.
This place is super touristy.
They have all sorts of shops where Emma can have fun.
These thing here is a cave painting that became the symbol of Andaluzia.
I think it's an archer.
People have been living here since 2000 bC.
That's 4 thousand years.
There have been people here for 4000 years.
Emma: They seem small, but when you look at it they have many floors.
Bruno: Yeah, thin and tall.
At the top of the village there is a castle with a viewpoint from where you can see everything around.
That over there are remains from the civil war, aren't they?
Emma: Yes
We are waiting for the bus to take us back to Vera
and look at what we found.
A cave that looks like a skull!
Mosquito!
Over there in that mountain in the back is Mojácar, where we went to yesterday.
Today, we rest on the beach.
This is Vera Playa, an ancient town that has been here since the
14th century.
It survived the Spanish civil war.
Beaches here in Spain are a bit different from what I'm used to in Brazil.
In the water there are a bunch of rocks and after you go in, literally like 5 feet in
there is a depression and you
sink.
Well, actually you float and you don't have to stop on those rocks anymore
that hurt your feet.
Many people here use slippers to step on the rocks.
Tonight we came to VillaRRicos.
Actually it's VillaRicos.
It means town of the rich, but when the put the two Spanish words together, they didn't double the R.
More stones.
Inside the water too, and they are darker.
Seems like volcanic stones.
Here in Spain, specially in August, each city has
fiestas.
They are a little carnival with stands selling fake t-shirts,
football games and have a giant Bart Simpson eating your kids.
In this fiesta in Villaricos they even have a fashion show.
Emma, I think you should walk the catwalk.
Do your thing.
This event is the life of the town.
The village has 650 people.
There should be like 400 here.
Everyone is here.
With background music, put your hands together for these beautiful models.
Now we are in Garrucha.
We will go to "summer movies".
They sort of project a movie in an open space and people
eat as they watch.
Reminds me of drive-ins.
Of all these places we went to in this trip, this one is
the one that seems more like a bigger city.
Here you find amusement parks, stands selling stuff, restaurants, small stores, ice cream parlors,
you have it all.
So if you want a more lively visit, this is the place to come.
We stopped on our way back in the city of Tobarra.
And we're gonna try road side food.
We ordered a Pepito de Terner, a huge sandwich with meat, cheese and tomato.
This was a short visit to the beach cities of Andaluzia, south of Spain.
