Backstage News On WWE Dropping Balor Vs Lesnar Plans

Finn Balor was supposedly being lined up for a shot at Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship, but that may no longer be the case. Finn Balor had a whirlwind 24 hours or so at the beginning of last week.

The Demon's TLC match was changed at the last moment when Bray Wyatt was removed from the card due to illness and replaced with AJ Styles.

Both men are considered two of the world's best wrestlers in the world, so they still managed to put on the best match of the night.

The next day on Raw, Balor had a very different opponent—Kane. Raw's two demons went head to head and most fans were likely assuming a screwy finish or a Balor win.

That was not the case. Despite defeating The Phenomenal One the night before, Balor fell in dramatic fashion to The Big Red Machine after three big chokeslams. It was a very odd booking decision from WWE.

The resounding loss to Kane is even more confusing when you consider what WWE supposedly had planned for Balor's near future. The Irishman is still owed his Universal Championship rematch and according to The Wrestling Observer, he was going to get it.

If a Superstar is being prepped to go up against Brock Lesnar, however, WWE needs to make sure that star looks strong and can be considered a credible threat to The Beast. Losing to Kane doesn't do that.

However, according to Cageside Seats, the Kane loss last Monday occurred because WWE scrapped plans for a Balor versus Brock showdown. If that does turn out to be the case, WWE's sudden change of heart is a little confusing.

At this rate, poor Balor seems like he'll never be getting that title rematch he's owed. The news that Balor won't be getting a Universal Championship match against The Beast Incarnate is only a rumor, for now.

There is an outside chance that WWE is actually beginning a unique build that makes Balor the man seem mortal while his Demon alter-ego appears unbeatable, and that will be how they make him credible for a Lesnar match.

As of right now, Balor is unbeaten on the main roster while wearing his demon paint.
