If you follow my twitter (hardly anyone does),
then you'll have noticed that I've been looking forward for the indie game "Last Man Sitting" for quite a while.
The developer published a title that is based on the mechanics of said game
in order to shorten the wait.
So let's take a look at "Last Man Kicking" and try to form an opinion about the game.
The intro doesn't need subtitles, does it?
The game can be bought for 1.99$ on itch.io
and you can probably imagine that the game is no Skyrim in terms of content
So, what's this game about?
Guns!
Football!
Office chairs!
MADNESS!
The gameplay itself is pretty self explanatory.
Equipped with a shotgun and the chair that is mounted to your ass,
your aim is to push the ball into the enemie's goal.
It doesn't matter whether you use the kickback of the gun to push yourself against the ball
or whether you shoot the ball directly.
The main thing is that the ball ends up in the goal.
You can also shoot your enemies if your aim is good enough.
However, it does need some time to get used to the controls and the handling of the character.
Once you're in, the game begins to be really funny.
The game ends once a team has scored three goals
Unfortunately, there is no online multiplayer.
Instead, you can play together with friends via local co op.
I do recommend this
as the AI can indeed fill the empty places but disappoints to some extent in the game.
The AI isn't really that interested in moving or even touching the ball from time to time.
The AI shoots itself across the playing field while trying to shoot anything and anyone
but it'll ignore the ball completely, so that accidental own goals can happen occasionally.
However, you can avoid these kind of problems when you're playing with your friends.
The partition on the keyboard is quite tight
so that controllers are the smarter choice for this game.
This'll makes the game more enjoyable and lets you have way more fun.
However, you do notice from time to time that the game needs some more polishing.
The menu for instance will always show the Xbox button layout, even when there's no controller connected.
Navigating through the main menu is also pretty confusing.
It does look fine, but it would really help if the buttons could respond if you're hovering over them.
As I said, this is pretty confusing.
The graphics on the other hand are pretty nice.
I really really like the style of the game
and I couldn't find any disturbing elements.
The soundtrack is pretty much what you would call elevator music.
This sounds boring but fits the mood and the gameplay perfectly.
Unfortunately, sounds and sound effects are too loud and strongly repetitive, which can turn out to be disturbing.
This is even worse considering the fact that there is no in-game menu. You can only edit the settings in the launch window.
It is okay, but a real in-game menu would be a lot better.
But even then, the game is incredibly fun to play,
especially when you're playing with friends.
And there's still hope that the smaller problems can be fixed, as the developer does listen to community feedback.
If you ask me, the game is worth the small amount of money that it costs
if you're looking for a small game in-between times.
