>> Well how do the sons of Watts feel about Watts as a community today?
>> Tom is believed, and believed for good reason and very few
people really get to trust of tens of millions of Americans.
>> Barring any blockbusters to clear the president. Impeachment is a certainty.
>> All of us have gotten to see the world through Tom's eyes. The way he saw the world we trusted.
>> The most iconic Brokaw image there is, is sitting here coming on
the air night after night for 23 years.
>> I haven't had the benefit of working with
Tom for decades. But I've already seen the huge impact he has had and the
impact he continues to have.

>> Tom has always had a sense for what America needed to know.
That's been the case from the day he walked in to NBC until today.
>> He digs down, he dives deep, and he tells people things
they need to know to put the story into perspective.

historical event happening he's been there.

>> Their coming across the wall right here.
Only NBC News was there and Tom captured that moment perfectly.
>> The amazing thing about Tom, he's curious and he used the platform
being Tom Brokaw, to meet people, to call
up people. He got to know Bill Gates long before anybody else did.
>> Are there are a lot of people just getting on to the internet because they feel that they
have to get out of the playing field so to speak?
>> He knew that he could make a call and somebody would talk to him.
>> Is there anything about prison that you will miss?
>> Not really.
>> I remember 9/11, the person who brought me the news
after that terrible day was Tom Brokaw.
>> For all that I've seen in my years as a journalist I was
not prepared for the overwhelming reaction that anyone would have.
>> And the way he spoke to the nation.
That day in the days that were to follow, to me said a lot about Tom.
>> Shortly after I arrived I was told that Tom had been working on a
special on JFK. I like many other families sat down to be entertained and
informed and treated to a spectacular journey.
>> Underneath the disciplined Tom. Underneath the anchor is a guy that I found had a great sense of humor.
>> They are calling this incidentally the wedding of the century. I've been trying
to avoid that term because who knows even in your own neighborhood there may
be one to top it. >> To make Tom laugh, you don't forget when you make Tom Brokaw laugh.
>> Occasionally we forget to put on the microphone.
>> Got to keep the equipment warm.
[laugh] >> No wait a minute. [laugh]
>> Tom was just a guy who wanted to be around. I mean he enjoyed it you saw
the silliness of life between his curiosity and his ability to see humor
and everything. Tom always kept it light.
>> Alright we're officially saying that
Florida is too close to call. We don't just have egg on our face, we've
got omelet all over our suits.
>> If something important is happening in the world our favorite son is still there.
>> He's dead-honest, he works hard, it's all
the old things that his mother probably taught him when he was a boy scout.
If he didn't get thrown out.
>> We may not be the greatest generation, but we're the generation that were lucky enough to have Tom.
>> When you think about NBC News, it's hard not to think of Tom Brokaw.
>> A network is no one but the quality of its news. He's brought great credit to NBC.
>> He's done NBC a world of good in terms of the integrity of broadcasting.
>> What he's meant to NBC News over the last 30 years
you know just can't be calculated. There'll never be another Tom Brokaw.
>> We are all richer for the time he has spent in our lives and
on camera as part of this network.
