hope you heard my take on the presidency and the economy right there I want
reaction from Fox News contributor Karl Rove my bottom line karl is that the
president's approval standing improves with the economy where am I going wrong
I think you're largely right on that let's get in the points of agreement you
know sort of understated the case the Fox poll had the Democrat advantage at
plus five that's not an outlier if you take a look at all the polls that have
been run since the 20th of March Marist was plus five for the Democrats Reuters
plus three Quinnipiac plus six and The Economist plus six so the Fox poll is
roughly in the same place that the rest of these polls were and if you step back
for a minute at the the in the Real Clear Politics average it's five point
eight percent for the Democrats it was 13-point advantage at the end of
the year a ten-point advantage at the end of January and a nine point
advantage at the beginning of March at the end of February so there's been
consistent improvement and I think you're absolutely right it's connected
to generalized feelings about the economy and the fact that people
starting in February began to see their paychecks get larger as a new
withholding tables brought about by tax reform kicked in can I generalize and
say people seem to like the president's policies it's the president's persona
which some have a profound objection to I think that's right and and at one
point of minor disagreement I'd have with you is is it that it's not just the
media that is injecting all this chaos into the system the president is doing
so as well by his tweets he in my opinion and I put this sort of alluded
to this in my Wall Street Journal column last week I think trey gowdy hit it
absolutely right a week ago Sunday on Fox News Sunday when he would dressed
John Dowd then the president's chief lawyer had said if your client is
innocent act innocent act like it well I think he was talking to doubt directly
but I think he was also talking to the president and the president ought to
just step back and let the Muller investigation come to a conclusion
there's been no evidence thus far that there's been any cool
eugen conspiracy coordination with the Russians in fact I'd make the case look
you're not both seen a lot of presidential campaigns I've never seen a
presidential campaign leak as much as the Trump campaign did I mean these
people were leaking on each other every single day in order to look important to
the press or to settle the score inside the campaign so if there was any
collusion in the campaign we would have heard about it long before now because
somebody would have leaked it to the press to make themselves look big that's
a good point call yeah absolutely right there Karl Rove everyone thank you but I

were seeing a frayed relationships to say the least with the Russians we are
seeing the relationship with the Chinese in the face of the tariffs imposed by
the president as I noted at the outset of the broadcast everybody in the
orthodoxy in the political press and business press as well I thought oh this
is you know they were clucking and clucking and wailing about those tariffs
oblivious to the fact the United States hasn't run a trade surplus in 50 years
well that's right and this is a part by how President Trump won he took issues
like trade which were mired in single digits in the polls in some polls they
were an asterisk which means it didn't even achieve one percent in terms of
what's the most important issue but he realized it's an issue of fairness and
this president made a commitment that he is making good on every single day to
America to American interests and to American workers and what he's saying to
China is he launched a 301 investigation his USTR came back and said there are
violations and we can take action to make this more fair stop this theft of
our intellectual property and the stealing of our future innovation in
this country and and by the way the president is also sick of this this
economic aggression the appeasement that we're expected to always give to
countries like China doesn't mean he won't be trading with it it just means
that you stop screwing the American worker and putting us on the wrong side
the deal Lou I want to make a very quick important point every time the people
breathlessly predict something tragic will happen and occur from inaction
President Trump takes it never happens he pulls out of the Paris Accords you
can't do that we'll all die the next day from global warming
nothing happens you can't you can't keep the commitment of five presidents and
actually move the US Embassy to Jerusalem and recognize it as the
capital of Israel bad things will happen doesn't happen and then we're told
you're going to start a trade war with Russia with China if you do this it
doesn't happen in fact the stock market it springs back today because the the
predicted trade war simply doesn't happen well it hasn't happened and of
course as a strategy to this point the president is on the right side of
history once again as you point out we are also however you know looking at a
country that has been extraordinarily aggressive and expansionist in his
policies obviously on its way to fulfill its hegemonic designs throughout Asia
the Pacific region China will not be milquetoast in any way we can't expect
them to act like we have for the past half century because they're far smarter
than than that but I think that the president doesn't get enough credit for
saying to the Chinese here's the issue we want you to reduce your doubt or your
surplus with us by a hundred billion a year and again people just reacting
reflexively because there's such a high bound part of this orthodoxy led by the
Chamber of Commerce the Business Roundtable and all of the other
establishment hacks in that city that he went to war against when he started
campaigning well let me just say this battleships turn very slowly but they
can sometimes sink very quickly and people better realize who the captain is
in this town he came here to disrupt to change the way of doing business the
American people responded in kind and I still feel like there are organs and
organizations in the city at remaining nameless that don't respond the way that
that aren't honoring the will of the people and aren't really adapting
themselves to this president they expect him to adapt to the city that's not
going to happen and and I would also tell you when it comes to matters like
this the spending bill this president is the he's a negotiator the deal maker in
chief he will be much more involved in the future we're gonna do this again in
six months and he's put everybody on notice
not sending anything like this again 700 billion for the military had he not
signed it then people would say up you're holding the military hostage
because you didn't get everything for your wall so it's one of those
situations you have where yeah that's Paul Ryan for crying out loud
Nancy Pelosi Chuck Schumer they're all bragging about the fact they stuffed him
on the issue of the wall I mean this is an insult finish this was an insult from
the Speaker of the House this man is absolutely an obstructionist fighting
this president at every quarter and there are his base the president's base
is outraged it's signing that 1.3 billion dollar 1.3 trillion dollar
spending bill all understanding his motivation with the military and
appropriately focused on that issue but my god for a speaker to act like this
and to get away with it is it is I mean it's damnable well the president has
proven he can work with the leaders in Congress he's invited the Democrats to
the table many times they just keep I don't think I'm allowed to do a lot of
that keep walking away shows there he shows how phony the exercises are on
their side but let me just let me also say he's not gonna get love from daca
he's not gonna get love from Schumer and he's not going to get it from Pelosi and
everybody peddling that stuff around the White House is full of it it's not so
and this but let me let me just point out to you is something very important
Congress's approval rating is still mired at just above 10% I think it's in
the lo small did you see the president's approval rating actually going up even
though all the narratives about chaos and turned all this nonsense coming from
the mainstream media that those of us who work here don't experience we see a
president very focused on making good on the agenda that he promised and he's
making good on that these tax cuts I want to push that too far here because
what he promised was a wall 15 months well that's what I don't like this is a
president who was elected because he isn't the guy who says just wait he's
the guy who said we're gonna have a smart government and we're gonna do what
we said and he's doing and is a historic job in delivering on that but there are
he can do it on his own II would loo if you could say exactly what you know
I understand some construction and fixing started to happen is happening
today putting up with a window we can be better putting up with him with his own
partner turns the stomach's of a lot of folks in his base so we look forward to
the next six treated he said he's frustrated he heard that hole yep he
made it very clear the other day he's listening to the generals who want the
military funded but he also made clear as did secretary Nielsen that people the
Congress that listened to the men and women at DHS who are asking for
reinforcements who wanted things and he wants that wall was the centerpiece of
his campaign but he's not making good on the campaign promise at the wall he's
protecting this country we have to have we're sovereign nation that has to have
physical borders we need to keep the poison out of our communities as well
and he's made that very clear you're talking to the choir here and by the way
the entire audience of this broadcast that's why they want the damn wall
