& SATURDAY - the UCR ARTSBLOCK screens THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER. Steven, a
charismatic surgeon, is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life
starts to fall apart, when the behavior of a teenage boy he has taken under his
wing turns sinister. >> SATURDAY - at 11AM - the HOLI FESTIVAL OF COLORS returns
to MCLEARN/ANZA NARROWS PARK for a day of interactive dance, mantra bands,
djs, yoga, free hugs, and - of course - colors! Throw your worries to the wind. >> SATURDAY -
at 1PM - our friends at VOCADEMY - THE MAKERSPACE
are hosting the RIVERSIDE RASPBERRY JAM. It's all about the Raspberry Pi - a
bare-bones $35 computer - and the cool following it's gained among makers and
coders. Check out project showcases, RetroPi gaming tournaments, coding,
vendors, robots, workshops and more! This event is free and for all ages.
>> SATURDAY - at 1PM - UCR graduate student Audrey Maier will TALK
ABOUT her research on the women who were employed by the area's packing houses.
The talk - in observance of Women's History Month - is free, parking at
the CALIFORNIA CITRUS STATE HISTORIC PARK is $5 per car. >> SUNDAY - at 8AM - Dave Goodward
of the San Bernardino Valley Audubon Society leads a fun, easy-going
morning of bird watching. You'll need binoculars, comfortable shoes and
clothing for walking in FAIRMOUNT PARK. The walk is free and open to the public;
reservations aren't needed. However, rain or other weather conditions could result

CONVERSATIONS AT THE CULVER. This month, local author Ruth Nolan talks about 'Fire
On the Mojave: Stories from the Deserts and Mountains of Inland Southern

MOLOTOV. Doors open at 7PM and tickets are only $29.50. And
this is a highly recommended show because local legends SANGRE are opening
the show, so get there early. Metal at the RMA, everybody! >> And MARIO'S PLACE has
Friday night music from L.A.'s J DEE BOLDEN & FRIENDS...it's 21 and over and there
is no cover. Music starts at 10PM. >> Saturday night
THE CONCERT LOUNGE offers up a full roster featuring La Habra's ZEBRAHEAD,
SUBURBAN LEGENDS from OC, local legendary band ASSORTED JELLY BEANS, and all the way
from Oakland, THE PHENOMENAUTS. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at
the door, and it's 21 and and over. And guess what? You got to get there at 7PM
because that's when the doors open! >> Menifee indie rockers THE EXTRANGERS
are headlining the Saturday Local Showcase at BACK TO THE GRIND, with
CRUEL REFLECTIONS from San Fernando Valley, and Riverside's
JOULES rounding out the lineup. All ages, no cover, and music starts at 8PM.
>> MTL hosts an 80s Dance Party with Depeche Mode tribute SWEETEST PERFECTION...
it's a $10 cover, 21 and over, and the doors open at 9PM.
>> MARIO'S PLACE fills their Saturday stage with SMOOTHIE JONES AND THE REGGAEMATIX
(looks like Smoothie's in the band!) It's 21 and over show, music starts at 10PM,
and there's no cover. >> And if it's a Sunday afternoon, you can usually find a
good singer/songwriter at WICKS BREWING COMPANY. This week is no exception, with
JAKE HITT from La Habra playing an acoustic selection. He starts at 2PM
and there's no cover and it's an all ages venue. >> MTL is featuring TWO
Sunday shows...BUDDY REED AND THE RIP IT UPS play the first of three scheduled
Sundays with a 3PM show. 21 and over, no cover. >> And at 7PM it's Reggae
Sundays with AZUL QUETZAL & THE JADE TONES, DUBIOUS DISTINCTION, and JON
PACHECO. It's a 21 and over show and there is no
cover. >> 8PM Sunday our friend CECILIO ALVAREZ hosts his monthly Local
Artist Showcase at THE MENAGERIE with guests CHASE WALKER, MANUEL MONTOYA, and
OLGA TAPIA. There's no cover and it's a 21 and over, and it's a highly recommended show.
>> Mondays are RUPO nights at BACK TO THE GRIND. Mario Sandoval hosts music,
poetry, comedy, and more from 9 to 11PM. It's a $3 cover and all ages

>> Thanks, Patrick! Social media was on fire this week with
speculation that popular City Manager John Russo is considering selling off the
Riverside Public Utilities to cover the City's unfunded pension liabilities.
Seems a bit extreme, considering the big projects funded in the last year. Is this
for real? Is it a distraction from the pending rate increases? We'll let you know
more when we know more. >> University Avenue was shut down Wednesday afternoon
when a woman climbed onto a railroad overpass and threatened to jump, according to the
Press-Enterprise. Public safety workers were successful in deescalating the
situation and getting assitance for her. >> A 37-year-old Riverside woman accused of
shooting a man in her Stratford Way house last week was
charged Wednesday with the attempted murder of her ex-husband. Balinda Dawn
Ballinger is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail. >> A press release
from City of Riverside Communications Officer Phil Pitchford
says the The City of Riverside has extended an agreement with the Riverside Art Museum
and Cheech Marin by 90 days to allow time to raise the remaining 10 percent of an
initial $3 million investment in the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art,
Culture and Industry in Downtown Riverside and to finalize agreements
between RAM and the City, and RAM and Cheech Marin. Also, UCR Today
reports that Marin will be the keynote speaker at the Tomas Rivera Symposium
on Wednesday, March 14th. >> A traffic collision earlier this month was not an
accident, according to a Press-Enterprise article. A man deliberately crashed into
his ex-girlfriend's car and another vehicle on Third Street the night of
February 15th. Three people, including the man, were injured. The suspect is still in the
hospital and has not been arrested. >> Cold and wet!
The frigid weather will continue for the near future with more much-needed rain in the
equation for today and Saturday. The snow level could be as low as 2500 ft, so be
sure to check conditions and chain requirements if you plan a trip to

Education Program, also, a presentation from a licensed clinical social worker
about the need for services and activities for transitional aged youth
