Waching daily Feb 28 2018

Ten years ago, Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of the table and finished the twenty-sixth matchday

of the 2007/2008 season 5 points ahead of Barcelona.

Frank Rijkaard's side kicked off the matchday games at the Vicente Calderon.

The game didn't disappoint.

Ronaldinho was first on the scoreboard with what is considered by many to be his best ever goal

in a Barcelona shirt.

But it was downhill from there on. Kun Agüero with a brace, Maxi Rodriguez and Forlan were all on target in a

4-1 humiliation.

Barça were lagging behind in the title race and Atletico were on their way to a Champions League place.

Real Madrid made no mistake in their trip to Huelva, putting an end to a disappointing run of three defeats

in their last four outings.

Although they went a goal down to a strike by Martin Caceres, Raul had made it all square before half-time.

With 20 minutes to go, Robinho came on the pitch and became the hero of the day getting the two goals

which guaranteed all three points for Schuster's side.

Luis Garcia ended Espanyol's crisis at Montjuïc with two goals which sunk Valencia who now seemed

to be out of the running for a European place.

The Budgies went into the fifth spot, but lost De La Peña who would be out injured for the rest of the season.

Riazor witnessed the first goal from their star winter transfer period signing: Christian Willhemson.

The Swede opened the scoring for the Galicians against a lacklustre Sevilla side who ended up losing 2-1.

Lucas Alcaraz spent his last game in charge of Real Murcia in Seville.

His side lost 4-0 in the Ruiz de Lopera stadium, a result which led to the Andalusian coach's dismissal.

Talking About... Martin Mantovani, CD Leganes player - Duration: 4:15.

"Hi, I'm Martin Mantovani and this is what my teammates think about me."

"First of all, he's a devoted father. Because, that tough character he shows on the pitch

is exactly the opposite of how he is off the pitch. He adores his daughters."

"Like I said, he's a great person, and a great father who loves being around his family."

"He's a real family type."

"A family man."

"Let's just say I'm a simple guy, easy-going."

"He's a happy guy, very friendly, always taking an interest in everyone else."

"He's a slogger, a hard worker. He's humble, strong and has a lot of personality."

"A competitive player with a lot of character. Prepared to give his best both on and off the pitch."

"The way he never stops fighting, always gives one hundred per cent and is totally involved in the game."

"His experience, his commanding voice, his clarity when communicating and ability to stay calm when under pressure."

"He brings a lot to the team, brings a lot of positivity."

"Before going onto the pitch, it's always important to listen to what the captain has to say."

"A talk like that is really important."

"The fact is it really helps us. Helps us because we go on the field motivated, and all he says comes from the heart."

"It's obvious they're not prepared, because at times he can really hit the roof."

"It's a moment when we're all together before going on the pitch. A crucial moment.

You look around, see your teammate, you reach out your arm. I think that's a symbol of

union and in that moment of group strength, that's when the words come."

"The day at Miranda de Ebro, the day we got promoted, that was amazing. It made our hair

stand on end, those unprepared words alone were enough to inspire us to a win."

"The one in the second division, the day we got promoted. That was special, that was different."

"The fact is he's an important figure at the club. He fits the system perfectly he's an ideal captain."

"The leadership he shows to all the other players, and which personally has given me a lot of confidence on the pitch."

"A battler."

"I'd say leadership."

"Consistency, I think."

"He's got a lot of personality, and no matter what, he never stops battling."

"He's a fantastic player, who's playing some great football."

"He gets better with each year that passes."

"He's a real figurehead for the club. If you had to have a standard bearer for Leganes at the Olympics, you'd choose him."

"He's an emblem for us. He's the one who makes us all understand this team had to fight its way into the first division."

"He's an example to everyone."
