Snow watch, Mane's optimism & Klopp's demands – Tuesday's Liverpool FC News Roundup - Duration: 4:11.

Snow watch, Mane's optimism & Klopp's demands – Tuesday's Liverpool FC News Roundup

Merseyside woke up to a blanket of snow on Tuesday morning, but that didnt stop Jurgen Klopps squad from being put through their paces at Melwood. Heres todays Liverpool FC news for you.

All the key players were in training, and even Adam Bogdan made an appearance as the snow cleared to produce sunny skies in West Derby.

With more snow forecast for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in Liverpool, Saturdays game against Newcastle (5. 30pm kick off) may begin to be put in doubt.

Theres not much that can stop this Liverpool side at the moment, so bad weather might be the only thing that Rafa Benitez can hope for to avoid defeat!.

A Tuesday between matches means little major news, but theres plenty of soundbites and bits of news to keep us occupied. Shelvey a doubt vs. Reds.

Speaking of Saturdays match, former Red Jonjo Shelvey is a doubt for Benitezs side. He suffered a knee injury in the Magpies 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the weekend and a scan later will reveal the extent of the injury.

Shelvey not being involved would at least mean no cringeworthy serenading of the player like a returning hero every time he takes a corner. Mane: Were going places.

Sadio Mane has told the Liverpool Echo about the current mood among the squad and pointing to a bright future for the Reds:. "Every single player would love to play in this team.

We are lucky boys and we are going to keep trying to work hard and give our best when we take our places on the pitch to continue to try and win the games.

"I can sense that the club is moving in the right direction. There were a couple of difficult years at Liverpool a while back but those things happen to every single club in the world.

"At the moment we are in a good way so everything is possible. I think we have improved a lot in the past few months. We know that on our day we can beat any team in the world.".

Klopp on Reds scoring.

The boss was asked about the fact his side have scored an incredible 103 goals so far this season, but he doesnt any let up in the final months of the season. He told the official website:.

"A nice number… but we cannot stop. "We have a lot of games to play still.

I have said it a lot of times: we have created a proper basis, that's it. If we hadn't played football like this or the last game or the game before that, we could not be where we are.

"We know with the quality we have we are responsible for good results. The only problem we have is that there are a few other teams with quality as well.

"So we have to score, we have to create, we have to make and score goals, we have to defend and we need to be ready for each game.". New Champions League info.

UEFA today confirmed that, starting next season, the top four teams in the Premier League will go automatically into the Champions League group stages, thus avoiding a qualifier for the fourth placed side.

Next season will also see new kick-off times in Europes top competition, with games at 5.55pm and 8pm rather than the traditional 7.45pm.

It seems that the early kick-off wont apply though in England so only away games will be 5.55pm for the Reds.

Another upcoming change, that kicks in the season after next, is the introduction of a winter break in the top flight.

This will begin in February 2020, with FA Cup fifth round ties moved to midweek and replays at that stage scrapped. Meanwhile, Premier League sides will alternate who has a week off, meaning no full weekend without any games.

It seems like a sensible compromise. Its news that will please Jurgen Klopp and allow for a similar warm weather training camp that the squad embarked on last week in Marbella. Crouch on life at LFC.

Theres not many, if any footballers, who come across as nice as Peter Crouch and the big front man has been speaking about life at Anfield as part of a Q&A with FourFourTwo.

Crouch scored 42 goals for the Reds between 2005 and 2008, and admits he found life hard at first:.

I finally started to score a few goals and the fans wanted me in the team more, though the manager wanted me in the team less! That was possibly where we clashed a little bit, but I've got nothing bad to say about Rafa.

He was first class. You cant go a day without a new transfer rumour, and Tuesday sees Turkish reports saying the Reds were over in Istanbul over the weekend to keep an eye duo Anderson Talisca and Oguzhan Ozyakup.

However, neither of them ended up playing in the derby against Fenerbahce, with Talisca suspended. Surely the scouts would have known this so no idea how its somehow been made into a news story.

News coverage of Sridevi's death: How media publications hastily leaped from Botox to the bathtub - Duration: 13:20.

News coverage of Sridevi's death: How media publications hastily leaped from Botox to the bathtub

The image from a television channel covering Sridevi's death certainly spoke volumes.

It was a photograph of a fancy hotel bathroom.

But photoshopped into it was a portrait of the late superstar.

On the edge of the bathtub there was a Photoshopped glass of wine.

And a headline that would be the dream of any pulp fiction writer – Maut ka Bathtub aka The Bathtub of Death.

Another channel just went all out.

They photoshopped Sridevi floating in the bathtub like the Lady of Shalott while Boney Kapoor stood next to it.

The television anchor stood in front - a salesman of the macabre.

Unfortunately, this coverage says way more about us than it does about the mysteries swirling around Sridevi's sudden death.

It reveals us as the ultimate ghouls, as ready to place our heroes on pedestals as we are to knock them into the gutter.

In life she was the stuff that our dreams were made of.

Her death is the stuff of nightmares – a freezing frenzy of vultures.

One of the local Bengali television channels had six "experts" conjecturing about the circumstances of Sridevi's death.

That included a well-known Tollywood actress who informed us confidently about what appetite suppressant drug Sridevi was taking and its side-effects.

The anchor reported breathlessly that "traces of alcohol" had been found in her bloodstream, stressed that the amount was unknown, and yet seamlessly talked about "otirikto modyopaan" or "excessive alcohol consumption" as being a possible cause of death.

They showed a bathtub and said without batting an eye that "this was that bathtub" as if the television channel had entered the sealed hotel room.

They gave us details about the height of the bathtub and the Sridevi's own height to bolster their theory about excessive drinking.

Barkha Dutt, dubbing this as #NewsKiMaut writes in Washington Post that "news anchors usually far too supine to interrogate the powerful contorted their bulletins by discussing, in all seriousness, whether a trained dancer could lose her balance in the bathtub.

One account said she was found unconscious in the bathtub.

Another said she was found on the bathroom floor fueling further conspiracy.

Meanwhile all channels showed the forensic report of death by "accidental drawning" alongside her passport details, revealed for the whole world to see, her privacy rendered completely meaningless.

The problem is not that the media is pursuing every angle of the death of a superstar.

It's a bona fide story.

It's perfectly okay to query how she died.

It's absolutely legitimate for media to raise questions about puzzling gaps in the account.

If she had gone to the bathroom around 5:30 after speaking with her husband for fifteen minutes, why was she not taken to the hospital till after 9?.

What's not acceptable is how quickly the subtext is shifting from the tragic untimely demise of a luminous superstar to the cautionary tale of a woman who flies too close to the sun.

When she died social media was rife with stories about her supposed relentless pursuit of size zero happiness.

The woman once described as Thunder Thighs for her curves was apparently obsessed with being skinny, keeping every marker of age at bay.

She might have been, but we forget that in the end it was her body.

In its own finger-wagging way, this too was body-shaming as we hastily, and without any medical proof whatsoever, rushed to draw a dotted line connecting Botox to the bathtub.

It became a story of the perils of being too beautiful, the price a woman pays for trying to defy age.

When the forensic report came out the morality play shifted course.

Now we were rushing to construct the story of a porcelain beauty, empty inside, filling the void with alcohol and prescription medication to keep her thin.

As if on cue, a local Bengali channel devoted an entire segment rehashing Sridevi's alleged affair with Mithun Chakravarty over twenty years ago.

Both Boney Kapoor and Mithun were married men at the time, we were told, but the silent reproof was reserved for Sridevi, as if she was the femme fatale in the story and the men innocent lambs caught in the headlights of her beauty.

The Sridevi story had quickly and grotesquely turned into a story of comeuppance for a woman who had wanted too much of everything – success, love and beauty.

It all makes a mockery of her famous line from Chaalbaaz - (I am just a woman who wants to live on her own terms in this world made by men.).

What's sad is that in this march of the ghouls we miss out on so much more that was surprising about Sridevi.

In recent years one of the great surprises was when she appeared on Satyamev Jayate on an episode about child sexual abuse.

On it, gay activist Harish Iyer talked about how he endured years of abuse fantasising about Sridevi, the woman who always came out on top, no matter what humiliation was piled on her.

She was a "character of force" he said.

She carried the promise of a "happy ending" even if it was in an alternate world, a fantasy one.

Then Sridevi appeared on the show, resplendently beautiful, like a dream come true and applauded Iyer as a "real hero" for having the courage to be so upfront about his story while the audience cheered.

It was a wondrous emotional moment showing the truly incandescent power of Bollywood.

It made real the promise of fairy tale ending, something we could cling to in our darkest hours, offering solace in the most unexpected places.

That's what makes the final chapter of the Sridevi story so tragic.

The woman who vanquished so many leering villains on screen is being stabbed in the back as her private life becomes public fodder and media wonders whether she drank wine or vodka.

She is being photoshopped into a bathtub in a hotel in Dubai and she can no longer get up to defend herself.

Or perhaps it only proves that the media that is doing this has just found its natural home – in a toilet, plumbing the depths, drained of decency.

'Maut ka bathtub': Indian channels take news down the drain with #SrideviDeathMystery - Duration: 6:12.

'Maut ka bathtub': Indian channels take news down the drain with #SrideviDeathMystery

If Indian news channels cannot take you into the bathroom, they will bring the bathroom to you.

The death of actor Sridevi on Saturday was destined to be big news, thanks to her pan-Indian popularity.

That she died suddenly at the age of 54 added to the tragedy, leading to tributes from across India – and far beyond.

But as further details emerged about how she died, India's TV channels spotted an opportunity to flex their detective muscles and show off their computer-generated graphics skills.

If you turned on just about any Indian news channel on the evening of February 26, you would have been confronted with the view of a pretend bathroom, with the pretence that the person on screen was commiting an act of journalism.

It is true that there is more to Sridevi's death than was originally reported.

At first, the media said that she had died of a cardiac arrest in a hotel room in Dubai.

Local police have since said that she died "after accidentally drowning in the bathtub of her hotel room following a loss of consciousness".

But the police have also ruled out any criminal motive, and her body is expected to be sent to India as soon as the formalities are complete.

But that information, plus a reference in the forensic report indicating that "traces of alcohol were found in her blood", was enough for news channels to decide on their story for the evening – even though elections were taking place in two Indian states the following day, tensions on the Line of Control remained high and the Punjab National Bank scam continued to develop.

The combination of ingredients – a movie star, an unexpected death, a bathtub and the suggestion of some alcohol involved – was enough for news channels to forget that they were talking about the actual death of a human being with a family.

AajTak for, example, ran a headline declaring "Maut ka Bathtub" (Bathtub of death), with a graphic of said bathtub.

Telugu channel Mahaa News put a crime reporter into a bathtub as it broadcast his speculation about whether it was possible for an adult to drown in a container of that height.

Meanwhile, the gossip around Sridevi's death has not just been limited to asking questions about those alcohol traces.

Panelists on these shows trained their focus on Sridevi's body, asking whether everything from the keto diet to botox might have been responsible for her drowning in a bathtub.

Arnab Goswami of Republic was naturally in on the game too, and for some reason decided to write "possible further investigation'' on a screen showing a blown-up version of the death certificate as a fellow anchor awkwardly held out a mic.

His old employer, TimesNow, meanwhile had a video listicle of three Sridevi death theories, including "consumed alcohol, was unable to maintain balance, fell & drowned".

Accross the channels, all sorts of people with varying degrees of connection to Sridevi's death were asked to offer their opinion, including Amar Singh and Subramanian Swamy.

A few, like Mirror Now and NDTV India, however, decided explicitly not to cover the death.

But for the most part, primetime news was dedicated to discussing the details of Sridevi's last moments.

The response on Twitter seemed to have one common refrain: That the real death to mourn at the moment was that of the Indian news media.
