News Brief February 28, 2018 - Duration: 10:25.

Jared Kushner leads some important work inside the White House, from brokering Mideast peace

to streamlining the federal government.

But a new wrinkle could make it a lot harder for the president's son-in-law to carry out

his responsibilities as an unpaid senior adviser.

Indeed.

OK.

So according to multiple reports, Kushner has lost the top-level security clearance

that he had been using on an interim basis.

Instead, he's going to have to operate with a lower level of access.

This is a policy change that also impacts other White House staffers with these temporary

clearances.

All right, NPR national political correspondent Mara Liasson is here.

Hey, Mara.

Hi, David.

So what happened here?

Why did Kushner lose this top-secret clearance?

Well, it all started with the fallout from the Rob Porter controversy.

Porter was the former White House staff secretary who was also under a temporary security clearance

until it was revealed that his security clearance had been held up because his two former wives

accused him of domestic violence.

So after that was revealed, chief of staff John Kelly decided that anyone whose security

clearance had been pending since before June 1 would be downgraded to secret from top secret.

That included dozens of White House aides and Jared Kushner, whose security clearance

had been pending for over a year.

Well, I mean, obviously you and I don't know exactly what it means to go from top secret

to secret or it wouldn't be secret.

But Jared Kushner has, I mean, a lot of responsibilities inside the White House.

So couldn't this, in theory, really impact his work?

Yes.

Now, he will no longer be able to read the presidential daily brief.

He won't have access to some highly classified intelligence.

On a practical level, for instance, if the head of the CIA comes to the White House to

brief the president on top-secret information, Kushner could be asked to leave the room.

John Kelly, the chief of staff, wrote a memo last week that said Kushner's ability to do

his job would not be affected.

That's probably true for issues like prison reform and technology innovation, which Kushner

oversees.

But people who've served in past administrations say it would be very difficult for Kushner

to continue doing other parts of his vast portfolio like overseeing the Middle East

peace process, relations with China, relations with Mexico.

And just today, there's a Washington Post report based on intelligence intercepts that

says officials in China, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and Israel discussed ways to

manipulate Kushner; to take advantage of his inexperience in foreign policy, his complex

business dealings - including the fact that his family's real estate company has tremendous

amounts of debt.

So that's another reason why it might be hard for him to ever get a permanent security clearance.

Yeah.

Well, I mean, that's no small thing if governments are actually talking about how they might

manipulate him.

So I mean, that really might reduce his chances of ever getting that full clearance.

That's right.

I mean, does that then raise questions about how long he might actually keep this job as

an unpaid adviser inside the White House?

There were always questions about that.

There are reports that there have been clashes between John Kelly and Jared Kushner and Ivanka

Trump.

Yesterday, one of Kushner's top aides and spokespersons, Josh Raffel, said he was going

to go back to New York and re-enter the private sector.

But there are no indications that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump are planning to leave the

White House.

It's just that his role as a top aide to his father-in-law is being curtailed.

Mara Liasson, NPR's national political correspondent.

Mara, thanks.

Thank you.

All right.

Students this morning are returning to class at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in

South Florida.

This is two weeks after a mass shooting there took the lives of 17 people.

Yeah.

Some students are obviously anxious to get back, others just feeling overwhelmed still.

Amanda Edwards is a senior.

She says many of her friends don't plan on going back for the first day.

My dad said that, you know, if I ever get scared during the school day on Wednesday

or after that, I'm fine with leaving early and stuff.

'Cause what's the point of being at school if we're just freaking out half the time that

there might be a school shooter coming in?

Yeah.

It's going to be quite a morning there, it sounds like.

NPR's Greg Allen is based in Florida.

And he's been spending time with people in the community there, Parkland.

And Greg, what are we hearing about this next step, school reopening this morning?

Well, you know, a lot of the students were back on Sunday for an orientation day to pick

up their phones and backpacks and to walk into school for the first time since the shooting.

Some of the students I talked to that day said it was too soon to go back.

They're going to be thinking about the students and the adults who are missing.

And they're - it will be difficult today.

They won't be using Building 12.

The school says that's going to be not used because it'll be torn down and replaced eventually.

So they won't have to go through the places where the shootings happened.

But several students and parents told me how great the principal's been holding them together.

They feel like - that they've been - they're together as a community, so they'll be back

together again.

I heard from some students and parents who said they think it's time to go back.

And they're worried about falling behind.

So they'll have half days as they ease back in.

You know, some of these students have been so outspoken - I mean, become gun control

advocates in the wake of all of this.

Do we expect that advocacy to continue even as they get back to class and start doing

schoolwork again?

Yes, I think we certainly can.

It'll be interesting to see how they balance school with the activism.

A lot of the students have been planning this March for Our Lives rally.

I'm sure you are aware of it, March 24 in...

Yeah.

...Washington, D.C., and cities around the country.

And, you know, they set up a GoFundMe page.

And they've raised close to $3 million dollars so far with big donations from people like

Oprah Winfrey and George Clooney.

So they've been in Washington planning that.

And they're also continuing to put pressure on lawmakers in Tallahassee on guns and school

safety.

And so I'm sure they'll continue to be involved there, as will their parents.

And help me understand what's happening in the state legislature, Greg.

There have been, you know, all this talk about state lawmakers moving really quickly on legislation

in Florida aimed at preventing school shootings.

What exactly are they doing?

Right.

Well, you've got this Republican-controlled legislature.

Both chambers there have Republican leaders and majority.

And they agreed on a package of measures that they'll take.

And that's moving pretty quickly through the committee.

It should get to a vote on the floor last - next week before the recess a week from

Friday.

It raised the age of all firearms purchases to 21.

That would have an impact 'cause, you know, Nikolas Cruz was just 18 when he bought his

AR-15-style rifle.

There will also be a three-day waiting period on gun purchases when there would be background

checks, giving time for that.

There's also a provision allowing law enforcement to temporarily seize guns from people deemed

a threat to themselves or others.

And then you have things like improving school safety and this idea about arming teachers.

That's something the governor says that he's opposed to.

So we'll see whether it makes it when it reaches his desk.

He could veto it.

NPR's Greg Allen talking to us from Florida this morning.

Greg, thanks.

You're welcome.

All right.

In Syria, a cease-fire sure did not last long.

And right now about 400,000 people remain trapped in eastern Ghouta.

The suburb of Damascus is just being pounded by airstrikes.

More than 500 people have been killed in just over a week.

And this Russian plan to open a pathway for aid workers to get into the area to deliver

aid never actually came to fruition.

NPR's Ruth Sherlock has been following all of these developments.

Hi, Ruth.

Hello.

So what is the latest in Ghouta?

I mean, all this talk of a cease-fire.

But am I right?

The situation, instead of getting better, might actually be getting worse.

That's absolutely right.

The U.N. voted for a 30-day cease-fire in Syria on Saturday.

But so far, all the efforts to make that happen have failed.

In fact, (unintelligible) Najib (ph) said the violence has intensified.

So the Syrian government has stepped up its ground war.

So pro-government forces have been actually trying to make incursions into this suburb

and take back part of the area controlled by rebels.

We reached Hamza Birqdar, who's a spokesman to the Army of Islam, which is one of the

main rebel groups in the area, and asked him about the situation.

So here he's saying the airstrikes are continuing.

This humanitarian situation is as bad as ever.

And he says this waterfall of blood is being spilled because of the crimes of the regime

and its supporters Russia and Iran.

But in actual fact, you know, the fighting is happening on both sides.

The rebels have also stepped up shelling attacks from central Damascus, where dozens of people

are thought to have been killed in recent weeks.

Well, Ruth, Rachel mentioned that Russia was trying to open this humanitarian corridor,

which I suppose is meant to provide a route for civilians to get away from all of this.

Is that happening?

Yes, that's right.

So there was this corridor that was meant to be opening up for five hours a day in which

civilians and the wounded are meant to leave and aid organizations are meant to get aid

in.

This place has been under siege for years.

And people are suffering from malnutrition - a terrible, wounded situation there.

And what's actually happened is the U.N. says the fighting is too bad.

They can't get any aid in.

And, you know, this shelling has been ongoing.

So what this tells you - you know, Russia is a key actor in Syria.

It's one of the - seen as one of the main foreign powers that can influence the situation

on the ground.

But I think this highlights how difficult this is for them to do.

It's a number of militias on both sides fighting.

And it just shows what a real test this is and whether Syria could be, you know, controlled

at all.

Well - and now we have these reports that the Syrian government is using chemical weapons

in the war and maybe a suggestion that they might be getting them supplied by North Korea.

Right.

This is a report that was published in The New York Times citing a confidential U.N.

report which found that North Korea is shipping supplies to the Syrian government that could

be used in the production of chemical weapons.

The U.N. has accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons in the past.

And in recent days, France, the U.S. and the U.K. have threatened military action if any

chemical attacks occur and their government is found to be responsible.

Wow - a lot to follow.

NPR's Ruth Sherlock.

Ruth, thanks.

We appreciate it.

Thank you very much.

Why does it have its hands like that?

One of them means 'don't be afraid', the other one means 'welcome'

Yes, that's what Buddha says

That one on the left is just a ...character

This is a copy of the hand that means 'welcome', and my mum said it's a pity that we can't take pictures with it

She said we could use it in different ways for posing in the pictures

And my dirty mind was like 'what kind of pose? have you seen what the hand is doing?'

People are getting in there, I can't understand

wtf?

Oh you have to go through that

No way, I'm not doing that xD

No way, would you do it? - No

A woman got stuck in there...

They said the hole is around 50cm and represents the Buddha's nostril

So if you can go through it, for some reason you will attain full enlightenment

Quite,quite creepy

Leaving Buddha and enlightenment behind now

Other thingies in this temple and someone left that cute purse there

So here we are in the forest, what can you find in the forest?

A gashapon machine, why? Because they are everywhere, same as the vending machine...

Hey beautiful, are you alone? are you?

Let's walk together, I'll bring it home as a souvenir

In the forest, with bambi

Caca! Don't. Let's continue

Leave it there! don't eat it!

Arsene Wenger has warned his players that there will be major overhaul at Arsenal this

summer if they fail to finish in the top four this season, according to reports.

The Gunners have been in miserable form since the turn of the year and are 10 points adrift

of north London rivals Tottenham,

who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League berth.

Their best shot of returning to Europe's premier club competition is to win the Europa

League, though they have been handed a tough draw against AC Milan in the last 16.

And now the Islington Gazette report that Wenger has told his player in no uncertain

terms that it will be 'all change' in the summer if they fail to qualify for the

Champions League.

The veteran French manager spoke to his staff and players following a board meeting on Monday,

in which the manner of Arsenal's Carabao Cup defeat was discussed at length.

It was also made clear to Wenger by the club's board that failure to finish in the top four,

or win the Europa League – their last remaining hope of silverware – would result in significant

changes.

Wenger has relayed that message to his players in the hope it provokes a response

when they take on Manchester City a second time in a matter of days at the Emirates on

Thursday evening.

The 68-year-old signed a new two-year contract extension last summer and remains keen to

see out his deal, which expires in 2019, despite Arsenal's dire form.

It is unclear whether Wenger would oversee the summer upheaval himself, or if Arsenal's

bosses would finally terminate his contract

and appoint a new manager to overhaul the squad and get them challenging for titles

again.

News Today : Trump Stuns Lawmakers With Seeming Embrace of Gun Control - Duration: 10:56.

Trump Stuns Lawmakers With Seeming Embrace of Gun Control

WASHINGTON — President Trump stunned Republicans on live television Wednesday by embracing gun control and urging a group of lawmakers at the White House to resurrect gun safety legislation that has been opposed for years by the powerful National Rifle Association and the vast majority of his party.

In a remarkable meeting, the president veered wildly from the N.R.A. playbook in front of giddy Democrats and stone-faced Republicans.

He called for comprehensive gun control legislation that would expand background checks to weapons purchased at gun shows and on the internet, keep guns from mentally ill people, secure schools and restrict gun sales for some young adults.

He even suggested a conversation on an assault weapons ban. At one point, Mr Trump suggested that law enforcement authorities should have the power to seize guns from mentally ill people or others who could present a danger without first going to court.

"I like taking the guns early," he said, adding, "Take the guns first, go through due process second.". The declarations prompted a frantic series of calls from N.R.A. lobbyists to their allies on Capitol Hill and a statement from the group calling the ideas that Mr Trump expressed "bad policy." Republican lawmakers suggested to reporters that they remained opposed to gun control measures.

"We're not ditching any constitutional protections simply because the last person the president talked to today doesn't like them," Senator Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska, said in a statement. Democrats, too, said they were skeptical that Mr Trump would follow through.

"The White House can now launch a lobbying campaign to get universal background checks passed, as the president promised in this meeting, or they can sit and do nothing," said Senator Chris Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut.

At the core of Mr Trump's suggestion was the revival of a bipartisan bill drafted in 2013 by Senators Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, and Patrick J. Toomey, Republican of Pennsylvania, after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Despite a concerted push by President Barack Obama and the personal appeals of Sandy Hook parents, the bill fell to a largely Republican filibuster. Mr Trump's embrace did not immediately yield converts.

Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, said after the meeting that he was unmoved, repeating the Republican dogma that recent shootings were not "conducted by someone who bought a gun at a gun show or parking lot." Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the No. 2 Republican, who sat next to the president looking flustered, emerged from the meeting and declared, "I thought it was fascinating television and it was surreal to actually be there.".

But Mr Trump suggested that the dynamics in Washington had changed after the school shooting in Florida that claimed 17 lives, in part because of his own leadership in the White House, a sentiment that the Democrats in the room readily appeared to embrace as they saw the president supporting their ideas.

"It would be so beautiful to have one bill that everyone could support," Mr Trump said as Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California and a longtime advocate of gun control, sat smiling to his left. "It's time that a president stepped up.".

Democrats tried to turn sometimes muddled presidential musings into firm policy: "You saw the president clearly saying not once, not twice, not three times, but like 10 times, that he wanted to see a strong universal background check bill," said Senator Amy Klobuchar, Democrat of Minnesota.

"He didn't mince words about it. So I do not understand how then he could back away from that.". Just what the performance means, and whether Mr Trump will aggressively push for new gun restrictions, remain uncertain given his history of taking erratic positions on policy issues, especially ones that have long polarized Washington and the country.

The gun control performance on Wednesday was reminiscent of a similartelevised discussion with lawmakers about immigration in January during which the president appeared to back bipartisan legislation to help young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children — only to reverse himself and push a hard-line approach that helped scuttle consensus in the Senate.

Mr Trump's comments during the hourlong meeting were at odds with his history as a candidate and president who has repeatedly declared his love for the Second Amendment and the N.R.A., which gave his campaign $30 million. At the group's annual conference last year, Mr Trump declared, "To the N.R.A., I can proudly say I will never, ever let you down.".

But at the meeting, the president repeatedly rejected the N.R.A.'s top legislative priority, a bill known as concealed-carry reciprocity, which would allow a person with permission to carry a concealed weapon in one state to automatically do so in every state.

To the dismay of Republicans, he dismissed the measure as having no chance at passage in the Congress. Republican leaders in the House had paired that N.R.A. priority with a modest measure to improve data reporting to the existing instant background check system.

"You'll never get it," Mr Trump told Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana, the House Republican whip who was gravely injured in a mass shooting last year but still opposes gun restrictions. "You'll never get it passed. We want to get something done.".

Mr Trump also flatly insisted that legislation should raise the minimum age for buying rifles to 21 from 18 — an idea the N.R.A. and many Republicans fiercely oppose. When Mr Toomey pushed back on an increase in the minimum age for rifles, the president accused him of fearing the N.R.A. — a remarkable slap since the association withdrew its support for Mr Toomey over his background check bill.

"If there's a Republican who's demonstrated he's not afraid of the N. , that would be me," Mr Toomey said after the meeting. The president appeared eager to challenge the impression that he is bought and paid for by the gun rights group. While calling the membership of the N.R.A. "well meaning," he also said he told its leaders at a lunch on Sunday that "it's time. We're going to stop this nonsense. It's time.".

Officials at the gun group were taken aback by the president's comments and immediately ramped up their lobbying against measures that they have long said would damage the Second Amendment and do little to protect people against gun violence.

"While today's meeting made for great TV, the gun control policies discussed would make bad policy that wouldn't keep our children safer," said Jennifer Baker, a spokeswoman for the N.R.A.'s lobbying arm. "We are going to continue to work to pass policies that might actually prevent another horrific tragedy.".

But at least for Wednesday, Mr Trump seemed willing to venture far from the N.R.A. script, even appearing to suggest that he might back an ban on assault-style weapons when Ms.

Feinstein asked what they could do about "weapons of war." The N.R.A. has helped defeat an assault weapons ban since the last one expired in 2004. The reaction in Washington was swift. Breitbart.com, a right-wing site once led by Stephen K.

Bannon, the president's onetime chief strategist, published an article with a headline in bright red that said, "TRUMP THE GUN GRABBER.". The site added that the president "Cedes Dems' Wish List — Bump Stocks, Buying Age, 'Assault Weapons,' Background Checks. Tells Scalise to Take a Hike — After Surviving Assassination Attempt.".

The president did return several times to a proposal that conservatives like: arming teachers in schools and ending the so-called gun-free zones around schools that Mr Trump said had made those institutions among the most vulnerable targets for mass shooters.

Hope Hicks to Leave Post as White House Communications Director

Hope Hicks, President Trump's communications director and one of his longest-serving advisers, said Wednesday that she planned to leave the White House in the next few weeks.

Hicks, 29, a former model who joined Mr Trump's 2016 presidential campaign without any experience in politics, became known as one of the few aides who understood Mr Trump's personality and style and could challenge the president to change his views.

Her title belied the extent of her power within the West Wing — after John F.

Kelly was appointed White House chief of staff, she had more access to the Oval Office than almost any other staff member.

Her own office, which she inherited after the departure of another Trump confidant, Keith Schiller, was just next door.

Most significantly, Mr Trump felt a more personal comfort with Ms.

Hicks than he has established with almost any of his other, newer advisers since coming to Washington.

And for a politician who relies so heavily on what is familiar to him, her absence could be jarring.

Hicks said that she had "no words" to express her gratitude to the president, who responded with his own statement.

"Hope is outstanding and has done great work for the last three years," Mr Trump said.

"She is as smart and thoughtful as they come, a truly great person.

I will miss having her by my side, but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood.

I am sure we will work together again in the future.".

But as the person who spent the most time with Mr Trump, Ms.

Hicks became enmeshed in a number of controversies over the past year, including key aspects of the investigations by Congress and the special counsel, Robert S.

Mueller III, into possible collusion between the Russian government and the Trump campaign.

Her resignation came a day after she testified for eight hours before the House Intelligence Committee, telling the panel that in her job, she had occasionally been required to tell white lies but had never lied about anything connected to the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

And in recent weeks, her personal life drew attention when it was reported that she had dated Rob Porter, the White House staff secretary who resigned under pressure over allegations that he had abused his two former wives.

Multiple White House aides said that Ms.

Hicks's leaving the White House was unrelated to her appearance before the House committee.

They said that she had told a small group of people in the days before the session that she had planned to resign.

Hicks's departure will coincide with those of other people who have been close to the Trump family members in the White House.

Reed Cordish, a policy adviser and friend of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, is leaving his role; Josh Raffel, a press aide whose initial portfolio was primarily focused on Mr Kushner and Ms.

Trump, is also leaving; and Dina Powell, who had been a deputy national security adviser who was close to Mr Kushner and Ms.

Trump, left weeks ago.

Their absence will deprive Mr Trump and his daughter and son-in-law of many of the aides who served as crucial buffers and sounding boards as a turbulent and politically uncertain year begins.

Among the things Ms.

Hicks had advised Mr Trump, according to multiple White House officials, was to tone down some of his Twitter posts or stop sending them altogether, an effort that had mixed results.

She also had the ability to stop Mr Trump from focusing on an issue he was angry about, and sometimes shield other members of the staff from Mr Trump's anger.

While Ms.

Hicks and Mr Kelly developed a functional relationship, he considered her access to the president to be a challenge to the command-and-control system he tried to enforce, according to several White House aides.

But on Wednesday, Mr Kelly echoed the president's praise.

"I quickly realized what so many have learned about Hope: She is strategic, poised and wise beyond her years," Mr Kelly said.

"She became a trusted adviser and counselor, and did a tremendous job overseeing the communications for the president's agenda including the passage of historic tax reform.".

As communications director, Ms.

Hicks worked to stabilize, to some extent, a fractious press department of about 40 people who were often at odds with one another in 2017.

She maintained one of the lowest public profiles of anyone to ever hold the job, declining to sit for interviews or appear on the podium in the White House briefing room.

Even those in the West Wing who did not like her approach feared her power, and worried about crossing her.

But some former Trump advisers sounded hopeful that a new staff configuration might create a more consistent approach to governing, in contrast to the way the White House has functioned for the past year, when people close to the president could easily influence him.

Dan Scavino Jr.

, the White House digital director, is the only member of the president's original campaign team still working directly for Mr Trump.

It was not immediately clear who will fill Ms.

Hicks's role, although several White House officials and external advisers said they expect that Mercedes Schlapp — who Mr Kelly brought in as a ballast against Ms.

Hicks's influence when he took over the job — will be elevated in some way.

Hicks had been considering leaving the White House for several months.

She told colleagues that she had accomplished what she felt she could with a job that made her one of the most powerful people in Washington, and that there would never be a perfect moment to leave, according to White House aides.

Hicks told the president of her plans on Wednesday afternoon.

Her departure date was unclear, but it is likely to be in the next few weeks.

She has not said what she will do next.

CNN Student News - March 1, 2018 | War in Space: The Next Battlefield | CNN 10 - Duration: 10:01.

Great to have you watching this special edition of CNN 10.

I`m Carl Azuz at the CNN Center.

We`re covering a subject today that`s both fascinating and alarming, a potential war

in space.

Unlike modern international conflicts that have

involved air, land and sea, troops, weapons and artillery, the next major world war, if

there ever is one, could be held at a place distant from

anywhere on earth, potentially killing no one but affecting almost everyone, a war unseen

with the naked eye but felt across the nation.

CNN`s Jim Sciutto takes us to the battlefield that`s miles over our heads.

CNN`s Jim Sciutto takes us to the battlefield that`s miles over our heads.

It is an arms race.

Is the U.S. at risk of losing?

I think so.

In outer space.

Looks like a communications satellite, when in actuality, it is also a

weapon.

Threats of a potential World War III.

I think it`s an inevitability over time.

Unimaginable weapons.

So, you could kidnap another satellite?

Essentially.

Designed to bring America to its knees.

Our satellites are at risk.

And our ground infrastructure is at

risk.

Standby!

Data building in Florida.

What can the U.S. possibly do to prevent this catastrophe?

This is a Q sat.

To find out, we go inside and underground.

So, this is the global operations.

With rare access to the places and the people preparing for "War in Space: The Next Battlefield".

As the sun sets and the nation goes to sleep, the battle for supremacy in space is about

to begin.

One final night before Americans wake up to a new

and daunting reality.

Ten a.m.

New York, 7:00 a.m.

Los Angeles, cities normally buzzing with the morning rush suddenly stall.

TV networks start to go dark.

Internet

connections run slow.

ATMs begin to malfunction.

There`s confusion.

No panic, not yet, as stealth cyber attacks are racing through the U.S. at the speed of

light.

Then you have the question of is it a cascading effect or not?

By noon in New York and 9:00 a.m. in Los Angeles, financial markets, dependent on exact timing

provided by GPS, are frozen.

Mobile

phone services already patchy, fail.

Confusion gives way to growing fears this is much more than a simple cyber glitch.

Many traffic lights and railroad signals also timed by GPS default to red, bringing transport

to a standstill.

Commercial air traffic is grounded, as

pilots lose navigation and weather data.

Power stations and water treatment plants begin to stop functioning.

This feels like utter science fiction, and yet it`s not.

By now, Americans know the country is under some kind of attack.

And they look to the Armed Forces to spring into action.

Stand by!

Data building in Florida.

But the world`s greatest military is struggling to respond.

Military pilots and drones lose contact with the ground.

GPS-guided smart

bombs are rendered dumb.

Warships lose contact with commanders.

This is the nightmare scenario, chaos on earth, as our adversaries launch a massive cyber

attack on key infrastructure and disable and destroy our

satellites in space, the first shots in the first space war.

Explosions in space that no one will hear.

Peter Singer wrote about this diary scenario in his book, "Ghost Fleet," and he now advises

the Defense Department on just this type of

threat.

You are now in World War III.

So, besides losing your ability to take out money from an ATM, your nation is in World

War III.

This is not fantasy.

This is the future, a future for which the U.S. is now urgently preparing.

If you say, is it inevitable, and the answer is probably yes.

General John Hyten, until recently the head of U.S. Space Command, has now been promoted

to lead strategic command -- charged with

crucial missions ranging from commanding nuclear warfare to cyber warfare to war in space.

Anytime human beings have come to new territory and contested it, conflict has followed.

Human beings forever have wanted to explore what`s beyond the hill, the horizon, and as

we go out there, there`s always been conflict.

Conflict in the Wild West as we moved into the West, conflict twice in Europe, for its

horrible world wars.

So, every time human beings actually physically move into that, there`s conflict.

And in that case, we`ll have to be prepared for that.

This new contested territory, however, is mind boggling, 73 trillion cubic miles.

The space surveillance network has been transmitting observations.

And the early signs by U.S. leaders` own admissions are disturbing for life as Americans know

it.

In 2015, the Pentagon expressed

grave concern that America was not ready for war in space.

It was proven right when month`s later, U.S. Space Forces were overwhelmed in war games

that targeted U.S. space assets.

It does get ugly in a hurry.

If it goes kinetic, it gets ugly really bad.

Kinetic warfare, meaning that shots are fired in space, would cause permanent damage and

destruction to the fragile satellites that

control much of our life on earth.

Like a space-age Paul Revere, General William Shelton, Hyten`s immediate predecessor at

Space Command, has been sounding the alarm.

Did action, though, start quickly enough?

You`re talking to a guy that was looking to really precipitate action and I would say

the answer was no.

Could we by an active defense of

our own satellites?

The answer is no.

You could not today defend satellite assets we have?

Not, certainly not on orbit.

Clearly, there are things you can do on the ground.

But space to space, no.

Perhaps worst of all, American adversaries know it, that the U.S. is not prepared.

And that the U.S., more than any other

nation, depends on space.

Our ability to be this sort of unique 21st century kind of power depends on space being

a sanctuary for us.

But also, it means there`s an

incentive to take that away from us.

Who are those adversaries?

They will sound familiar from standoffs down here on earth, Russia and China.

We have very good surveillance and intelligence capability, so we can see the threats that

are being built.

And that`s China in particular.

China in particular.

Russia is also working on those capabilities.

But that`s something you`re preparing for.

So, I imagine, nothing is off-limits, in effect?

We`re developing capabilities to defend ourselves.

It`s really that simple.

And so, the U.S. finds itself in a new, more ominous space race.

Is the U.S. at risk of losing a war?

I think so.

We`d be silly to say it`s not a possibility.

That`s what any defense planner will tell you, is don`t look for the ideal

outcome, plan for the worst day, so that you can survive it.

Coming up.

The wake-up call really was January of 2007when the Chinese tested their anti-satellite weapon.

The first shots in space have already been fired.

Well, that`s all for the special sort of "Star Wars" edition of CNN.

Thanks for watching.

I`m Carl Azuz.

New Earth News 5 Things You Must Do to Shift Into New Earth - Duration: 4:15.

New Earth News- 5 Things You Must Do to Shift Into New Earth

by Steve Aitchison,

Its the era of the universe and its signs.

Its the time of shifting into a new level of consciousness.

The days of work, planning, goal setting, preparing and struggling are over.

We are now slipping into the realm of the universal laws that have always been in place

for us, were just finally opening up to receive and believe them.

Our governments are in control and religions have a loud angry presence.

We no longer have our own voices and we are forced to face hate, corruption, deceit, negativity,

poverty, death and all other influences on this earth that are putting our world in constant

turmoil.

All of this is going on constantly around the world every second of the day.

While all this hate is going on in the physical plain, the internet is taking on a whole new

dimension.

The love and spirituality that is spreading on the World Wide Web is like a fire out of

control and millions are embracing it.

The time to be spiritual and universal is greater than ever.

It is vitally important to shift our vibrational energy in order for the world to be a more

peaceful planet.

We have had our hands in making it evil an d volatile.

Only we can change that into something that is beautiful and can bring us to co-exist

in love and harmony.

We are collectively moving into a more spiritual awakening with good reason.

The only thing left for us to do is shift our energy into something that can only be

of benefit to our earth.

So how do we do this and is it possible?

Anything and everything is possible.

It wont be easy and won t happen overnight.

The world didnt get this way in a day.

With practice and patience, we can make this world the beautiful planet that it once was.

1.

Be in the here and now.

Live for the moment only.

The moment of time where the only thing that matters is the present.

Your life, your health , your surroundings, the people around you and the love that fills

you.

Ours is not to worry about tomorrow or fret about yesterday.

Be here now.

2.

Everything is temporary.

Jobs, family, sickness, even life.

Nothing is permanent.

We are all here temporarily and everything we feel and go through is temporary as well.

Understanding and appreciating that things arent permanent reminds us to love right

now.

Be blessed and abundant right now.

Open our energy up to only love and peace.

3.

All for one and one for all.

We are all equals here . We breathe the same space, we all live on this big planet together.

We all have the same dreams and existence.

We are born, we live and then we die.

Equally.

No one is better than the other.

The sooner we get that the sooner we can love each other.

4.

Do everything with love.

No matter what it is.

Work , grocery shopping, laundry, helping a stranger, walking your dog.

Make sure you do it with all the love you feel in your heart.

The more love you have and feel, the more your energy w ill vibrate and reach others.

Thats what this is all about anyway, right?

Shifting the energy to a love field.

5.

Ask believe and receive.

The universal law of attraction.

And it works.

The universe will give you anything you want as long as you believe it and fee l it.

We are spreading the laws of the universe around the world for the simple reason that

the sooner people realize that they can anything they want, misery, pain and sorrow will diminish

to the point of nonexistence.

We wont have to fight for what we want and living in peace will be within our reach.

Trump

tweets Fox News host who said Hillary Clinton's 'criminality' should be investigated

President Trump on Tuesday tweeted out a quote from Fox News judicial analyst Judge Andrew

Napolitano in which he agreed with the president that the Justice Department had evidence of

Hillary Clintons criminal acts.

Napolitano told Fox News host Martha MacCallum that somebody had a treasure trove of evidence

against Clintons criminality that he feels should had been investigated.

'Hes got a very good point.

Somebody in the Justice Department has a treasure trove of evidence of Mrs. Clintons criminality

I fully agree with the President on that.'

Other than a few retweets, it was Trump's first tweet since Saturday.

Trump followed up that tweet with a few others quoting other talking heads on TV who support

his argument that he didn't collude with Russia to win the 2016 election, and summed them

all up with a single tweet saying, "WITCH HUNT!"

In one tweet, Trump quoted George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley,

who said "I just don't see the evidence" about Trump's alleged collusion with Russia in the

2016 campaign.

In another, he quoted lawyer Ken Starr who also said there was "no evidence of collusion."

Starr says he doesn't see anything that suggests Trump has obstructed justice, and claims he

was only exercising his presidential powers.

"I just don't see it," Starr said in the quote Trump tweeted.
