Hey girls. Hi mom.

We went to a drum class in Pelourinho today taught by an Olodum drum master.

Olodum is the famous afro-brazilian drumming group that combats social

discrimination and symbolizes African-Brazilian history, culture and pride.

Olodum received worldwide recognition after participating in the Michael

Jackson song called They Don't Really Care About Us"". The video was recorded in

Pelourinho where Michael Jackson played with over 200 members of the Olodum group.

This was such a great experience. I have always loved the sound of African drums

and it was so awesome to actually get to play one. It was so fun to play and make

music with my family. The kids loved trying new instruments and making wild music.

We played drums and we had fun.

It was really loud.

I liked that instrument where you only have to tap it and it goes...

What did you like Alice?

I liked that I was playing the drums and it sounded like somthing but I don't know.

I was playing with a whistle and it sounded like a bird.

Yeah you did sound like a bird. That was so fun!

We learned about the cultural side of drums. We learned about the instruments.

and then we got to play and make some beautiful music. They had us make sounds

of nature and then we got to play loud and hard and just have fun.

We had a great time.
