Arsenal's hopes of appointing Luis Enrique as Arsene Wenger's successor could hit the
rocks after the former Barcelona boss demanded wages of £15m-a-year after tax, according
to reports.
The Gunners have started the process of replacing Wenger after the Frenchman announced his intention
to step down at the end of the season.
Enrique, 47, has been on a year-long sabbatical since leaving Barcelona in 2017 but the Spaniard
is keen to return to management and hopes to join a Premier League club.
Arsenal are believed to have identified Enrique as their first choice to replace Wenger but
the Spaniard's wage demands of £15m-a-year after tax threaten to scupper his chances.
Wenger is one of the best paid managers in world football on around £10m-a-year but
the Gunners will have to stretch their budget to afford Enrique, according to the Mirror.
Some members of Arsenal's board believe options such as Mikel Arteta or Patrick Vieira
would prove more viable and the pair are more likely to continue under the financial constraints
that Wenger often operated in.
Wenger's side travel to Old Trafford on Sunday where the Frenchman will take on Manchester
United for the last time as Arsenal boss.
The Frenchman's expected to name a weakened side with a second leg in the Europa League
semi-finals against Atletico Madrid to come just four days later.
