STEVEN GERRARD has accepted an offer to become the new Rangers manager.

The Liverpool hero will take Gary McAllister to Ibrox with him as his assistant.

Rangers chiefs made it clear to Gerrard he was their top choice for the job and they

believe the Reds legend can restore the club to its former glory.

The Daily Mirror claim the former England star is excited about the prospect of locking

horns with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

And McAllister has accepted an offer to move to Glasgow with Gerrard and take the SPL club

into a new era.

The 37-year-old has rejected a number of opportunities at other clubs including the MK Dons.

To take up the role at Rangers Gerrard will leave as manager of Liverpool's Under-18 side.

And Jurgen Klopp has admitted he supports the Reds hero in whatever decision he makes.

He explained: "If I was the owner of a club, I'd think about him.

It's his decision and we support him."

Rangers take on arch-rivals Celtic knowing Rodgers' side can secure the Scottish top-flight

title.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez thinks Gerrard will be a success as Rangers manager.

He explained: "His understanding of the game is good.

He has had different managers, foreign managers, British managers, so he will have seen different

visions, which is important.

"I have been in three different countries as a manager, so when you play in your country,

you have the visions of your coaches, the style you play in your country.

When you go to another country, everything is different.

"For him to have different coaches with different ideas, I'm sure, has been positive."
