de Gea explains what needs to happen for him to stay at Manchester United amid transfer speculation
David de Gea has suggested hell stay at Manchester United - providing they win titles.
The Spanish keeper, 27, looked certain to leave United in the summer of 2015, after Dutchman Louis van Gaal had steered the Red Devils to a fourth place finish in the Premier League.
However, thanks partly to a dodgy fax machine, a transfer to Real Madrid fell through at the eleventh hour on deadline day, consigning him to a longer stay at Old Trafford.
Since Jose Mourinhos appointment as manager in the summer of 2016, De Gea has appeared more settled, although speculation about a return to Spain persist.
Now, in an interview with the Daily Mail , he appears to have outlined exactly what the club must to do keep him happy and convince him to stay.
And its quite straightforward - titles and trophies.
. He said: It was odd (under Van Gaal). Finishing fourth is not good enough. I want to win. If you are at United, you need a manager with a winning mentality.
We had that with Ferguson. He wants to win every game..
We spoke in the Euros and he told me he wanted me with him and wanted trophies. Weve had a tough time since Ferguson retired. Its hard to diagnose. It has to be more.
Titles are what I crave. We have to get United back to their best, back in the Champions League, back as the champions of England, back to the top..
