Real Madrid are considering making an offer for Manchester City's Brahim Diaz as early as January

Diaz is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium in the coming months after failing to agree an extension to his contract, which runs out at the end of the season

Real is the Spaniard's likely destination and they could make their move in the winter transfer window instead of the summer

That would involve a fee, rather than signing Diaz on a free transfer, and the 19-year-old fears about a lack of game time under Pep Guardiola

Diaz, who shone during the Carabao Cup victory over Fulham, is understood to been told that Real chiefs see him as joining the first-team squad should they make a move in January

His departure would serve as another blow for City's academy after Jadon Sancho left for Borussia Dortmund last year and has since gone on to become an England international

Sancho, Diaz and Foden were seen as the three standout prospects but only the latter, a boyhood fan, will remain at the club

Chelsea latest news: Callum Hudson-Odoi told to leave because of Eden Hazard - Duration: 3:59.

Hudson-Odoi is a 'special' talent according to Hargreaves. Owen Hargreaves believes Callum Hudson-Odoi is a 'special' talent but is concerned that Eden Hazard will block his progress at Chelsea

The 18-year-old winger put in a fine display against PAOK on Thursday night, scoring his first goal for his home club and providing an assist for Alvaro Morata in a 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge for Maurizio Sarri's Europa League group-topping side

His manager poured cold water on Hudson-Odoi's hopes of playing a major role in the first team this season after the match – although he does believe the youngster can become one of Europe's best players in the coming years – and Hargreaves believes that it will be 'virtually impossible' for him to breakthrough at this time with Eden Hazard blocking his path to the first team

However, the former Manchester United midfielder is convinced Hudson-Odoi is ready for first-team football and has advised him to leave Stamford Bridge on loan for two years in order to develop and break into Chelsea's starting XI

Advertisement Advertisement 'He's a special, special young player – he really is,' Hargreaves told BT Sport

Hazard is blocking Hudson-Odoi's route to the first team . 'I don't care if he's 18, he's ready to play

He just needs some games.Even though he's 18 he feels like he's ready. He looks humble

The thing I like about him is his decision making is good.I think he has a feel for the game

He's going to affect games every time he plays.'For the young kids – I don't care if it's Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United – to compete with the world class talent that those top-four teams have in those positions is virtually impossible

You look at Jadon Sancho, he wasn't getting enough opportunities at Manchester City, he went to [Borussia] Dortmund – he's probably one of the best assist givers in all of Europe

Now everybody wants him.'So for Hudson-Odoi to compete with with Hazard is impossible

For Hudson-Odoi it's hard because the players in those positions – Willian, Hazard, Pedro – they're all world class

So I think a year loan or a two-year loan [would be beneficial].I could see that working
