Waching daily Nov 29 2018

We are here at San Pedro Cholula or often just called Cholula. This place is

known for a lot of food, the culture here, but most notably this gigantic pyramid

with a gorgeous cathedral on top! It is thought to be the biggest pyramid, by

volume, in the world! However, you can only really see just a small sliver of it.

Which I find bonkers! It's just - it's totally covered! Most of it's covered by

dirt and grass. Or they just built this and are claiming it's the biggest

pyramid in the world. You be the judge.

So, we're hiking up now to the top.

Of this potential pyramid.

[Laughter] We recently went to the Pyramids at Teotihuacán, and

those were humongous!

I mean, we thought the Coba pyramid was big. But the mass of

the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, was just, just huge! You couldn't stop

staring at it! We're hiking up this now,

And comparing the two, by volume, this is

supposed to be bigger. I just - I don't see it.

[Laughing] Maybe because it's covered completely?

I don't know. What do you think?

Yeah, this isn't the tallest pyramid in the world

but is the biggest by mass. Supposedly.

Yeah, it doesn't seem that huge, but probably just

because it's not unearthed. Yeah.

So we're getting near this top and

it's starting to feel a lot bigger! Totally out of breath, but at least it's

a nice path the whole way up. With some steps.

So we're now up on top of this pyramid next to this super stunning Cathedral!

And if you want a bird's-eye view of the entire city (Puebla, Puebla), this is where you need to go!

Because I'm pretty sure looking out in the distance, we can see how tall that

teleferico is. And we thought that that was a bird's-eye view. But it looks

like we're higher than that right now! Yeah, it's an incredible view!

If you're in the Puebla area, we highly recommend coming here and hiking to the

top of this! It's really pretty! Gorgeous views,

And it wasn't that bad to get up

here. It wasn't that much of a hike, no. On a good day,

Over in this direction, over right about here, you

would be able to see that gigantic volcano when it's clear. I think we've

noticed that in the evening you can see it better than in the morning, for

whatever reason. Yeah, it seems to clear up in the evening. And driving around

Cholula, there are some parts of town that aren't as nice. But then there's

others that we would really love to spend more time in and walk around. It's

amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to a city! It really is.

It really is. We'll put a map as well

where we parked, but it's in this area.

Over in that area, and like this

side of Cholula, it's not quite as nice. We came one day actually before

this, but I got really sick, and we had to - Like we drove here and we had to turn

right back around! So the side of town that has been freshly painted and

all that is super nice! And then just coming up to this Cathedral it is - it's

so worth it! And it's free. So whatever your transportation costs, and

then to come up here, free. When we were at the top, I totally forgot we were on

top of the pyramid. But although it's prohibited to take photo or video inside

of the church, we highly recommend going in there!

It's super pretty, but. It's bedazzled all up in there. There's like a crystal chandelier or something.

It's very pretty! Where were lots of photographers and videographers up top

though - so it's perfectly allowed to do that up at the top of the pyramid.

There was a bee about to land on your head. [Laughter]

We totally forgot to mention this, but Cholula is actually a Pueblo Magico.

There's at least I think like a half a dozen close to Puebla (city). But this is the

closest at approximately 30 minutes away. At least 30 minutes driving from around

the center of town. Puebla's a huge city so it could take you longer. But I think

definitely worth the visit, especially since it is so close! Guys, this is part

of the pyramid right here, covered in trees, covered in grass. The sidewalk we're

walking on is part of the pyramid. Well, a later addition. Right along

some of the main streets in Cholula, as you can see behind me, there's a whole

bunch of shops and colorful buildings! Maddie loves looking at this kind of

stuff, so while she's busy doing that, I'm going to show you a bit of it!

Tell you what guys, if you have a girlfriend or a wife who likes crafts and

Artesanias as much as Maddie does,

It is going to take you a long time to walk

two blocks to get some mezcal!

In Cholula. Look, look. [Laughter]

In my defense, I'm not buying anything, I'm not trying anything on. I just like looking!

I just like looking at all the stuff! I think it's fascinating!

And plus, we're trying to find something for our

monthly Patreon giveaway, now that we're almost to 100 patrons. Thank you so much guys!

When we arrived in Cholula the other day, my first thoughts were "What's

so special about this place?" But the more we explore around here, the more I'm

finding that there is to see and there is to do.

And to be honest I think that's

kind of how it is with every Pueblo Mágico. We get there and we're like "Okay,

what's the deal with this?" Sometimes we luck out with like the

festival of lights type of deal. (Coming up in Atlixco) Mm-hmm.

Other times we meet really cool people

there, or just have great experiences. But I don't think we've ever been

disappointed by a Pueblo Magico if we gave it a chance! Mm-hmm. So we've been

getting shut down more and more lately with one of our favorite things we do

in every new city, but not today!

Watch there be a giant hole in the middle of this.

El Centro of El Centro!

So it seems like you go 30 minutes away from Puebla and the prices are much

lower. We got margaritas for 50 pesos each. And

they're pretty good! And we're right in Centro, right near the zócalo here. And I

got a cappuccino with Bailey's for 45 pesos. So I'm liking it here! [Laughter] So at this

point, I think I've walked into about 237 shops

in the city of Cholula, and I'm pissed!

Yeah. We haven't seen a single bottle of

Cholula hot sauce, and I'm starting to think that it wasn't made here. And I

suppose next you're gonna tell me that Tabasco hot sauce wasn't made in Tabasco!

Wow! Just wow! [Laughter]

So we're standing in front of this store in Cholula called Citadino.

It's a leather store. We've been looking for a bag that has space for

both of our cameras. Right now we have two Sony cameras. This one that we're

holding right now is the action camera, that we use for talking and walking

around. That's why it's very steady, it has great stabilization! And then the

other one, thanks to one of our patrons Shawn!

He is letting us borrow this a

very nice one. But the problem we were having is our other our other case. [Loud car honk]

[Laughing] Our other case

didn't hold both. So like, I usually don't have pockets. I'm wearing a dress or a

skirt and things. So Jordan's holding one, I'm holding the other.

We wanted a bag that held both. Well, we

found one! And it's made of leather. It has all the pockets that our pretty little

hearts could ever desire! And it's real leather.

It's real leather, hundred and

twenty pesos. So this shop is like maybe some of the best prices we've ever seen

for leather ever in Mexico! And it smells so good in there!

Oh the smell, it's amazing!

Hello from Atlixco! We just arrived to the Pueblo Magico, Atlixco (Puebla)

And it's about a 40 minute drive from Puebla.

On the way, it was 40 pesos in

tolls, and we found parking for 20 pesos. Which means, as long as we want to

explore for about $1 an hour. It looks like they have a lot of decorations setup,

and things for Christmas, and lights, and we're here during the daytime, so maybe

we will get to see some of this it's coming on during evening!

So this is the Festival de Illuminación or the light

festival. And this is going on. It just started a few days ago and it goes

through January I believe? But these guys are all over the city and then they light

up at night. So if we decide to drive after dark today, you might get to see

these lit up! Chester the cheetah. Balloon man.

And... Jordan: This is that guy from "Up" Adorable Mexican doll.

I would really love to know what these are called! You

see them everywhere, often with these ribbons up on the top of the head.

Guess where we're going! Guess what time it is!

[Laughter] What? Walking upstairs in a building?

This is part of a coffee shop! This is the first centro we've ever, like

gazebo thing we've ever seen like this!

Were you about to leave without doing what I think you're

supposed to do? Yes.

[Laughter]

[Laughing]

El Centro of El Centro!

So we just about made the biggest mistake ever since El Grito. The

mistake - missing El Grito. And that is, we were just hanging around

centro thinking "Oh this is a pretty cool like festival of lights." Like there's some

stuff set up there, and I was a little confused myself to think that people,

Like 500,000 people you said, would come here to see that. But it turns out

just a few blocks away from centro, they're setting up all of this stuff.

Amusement park rides, booths themed like I don't even know what. Yeah, we hear it's

been going on for a few days. But there's still way too much setting up going on

For it to have been in full swing. So I'm guessing tonight is going

to be the first night it's in full swing. The first big night.

So we might [Maddie jumbling her words]

We might have to [Laughter]

We might have to stick around! So seeing as we had no idea

This festival was actually going on. We're... Jordan, grow up!

We're just walking around, up and down the streets, trying to see what there is

to see. And the more we walk, the more we are finding that this festival spills up

and into all these different streets. Nothing much is open yet, but there's

like this little Centro area has jungle equipment, and so we're not really sure

if it's for monkeys or humans. [Laughter] But kids are kind of both, right? (There's a lot of ropes and things set up that you can't see in the video)

So what are your first impressions of this place? Atlixco?

How do you say it? Atlixco? Atlixco. We think, we

looked this up before coming here.

Well first of all, I think this is yet

another town where they do not see gringo tourists very often. Because I

felt like someone had a spotlight on us the whole time. Everyone we walked by was

staring, for an awkward amount of time. (Not the creepy kind, thankfully)

But if you're going to come here, I think

at least go (Atlixco play on words) during this time of year,

[Celebratory laugh] For all these awesome lights! I'm also

really glad that we bumped into that super sweet couple who told us not to leave

And even where to go, because otherwise we would've peaced out before seeing all of

this. And hopefully, you can come on a clear day when you have a view of the

volcano. Because you get a lot closer here than you are in Puebla.

And it's about to get very loud because there's an ice skating rink.

And this bad boy keeps it cool. [Laughter] It's called "Lord of the Rinks"

Lord of the Rinks. [Laughing]

At least I think it's an ice skating rink. It's going to be.

But it's not ready yet.

So when we first got here, I thought all these things they had set up

Was kind of tacky. I was like "Are these here all the time?"

But we're not going to tell you that we didn't know that there was a festival of

lights before we got here. Otherwise, we would just look like inexperienced

travelers. But no, we definitely, definitely knew this was happening!

[Laughter] So it's a battle between Cholula and

Atlixco. Who do you think wins? Who's gonna win? Who's gonna win the fight? [Laughter]

By the way guys, we get this question all the time "Where should I stay in this

city?" And right now, we're in Puebla City staying at this really cool boutique

hotel, which we found on Airbnb. So here's a quick tour of that.

So we just checked

into our Airbnb. We have this cute area with the fridge, microwave, coffee, closet here.

This nice bed! And this room actually has a balcony. This is a super cool view!

I'm so excited! And our host is so thoughtful!

She left us bowls for Laska

to use. A treat. Some fruit.

If you're looking for some place to stay, we really

recommend this place! The owners moved from Spain to open this place up and

remodeled it and revamp it. And it's pet friendly because they went through so

much to bring their dogs into the country. And they want other people with

dogs to have a nice place to stay. Laska really loves the balcony

here because she likes to come out and "Roh Roh Roh" at people and dogs that are

walking by. [Laughter]

If you're new to Airbnb you can get $40 off your first stay by using

our code that we're going to link below in the description of this video. And if

you're not in the US, you're in Canada, Europe, wherever, that's just going to be the

equivalent converted into your local currency. But the code is still valid or

that link is still valid. And if you sign up with our link, it gives us a twenty

dollar travel credit, or the equivalent depending on your currency. Which helps

us continue to travel to new cities and show you what Mexico is like, eyes on the

ground! Well guys, thanks for watching!
