Liverpool have signed striker Roberto Firmino to a new five-year contract.

The Reds have inked a deal that will keep the player at Anfield until 2023.

Firmino's new deal will see the player earn around £9 million per season.

The news of Firmino agreeing a new improved contract will come as a relief to make at

the club and supporters.

The Brazilian's form had made him a transfer target of clubs around Europe.

Firmino is due to make around £180,000-per-week with his new deal.

Now 26, the striker will spend his prime years under contract at Anfield.

According to Totalsportek.com, Firmino will be Liverpool's highest paid player.

However, an improved deal could be offered to PFA Player of the Year Mohamed Salah following

the season.

After Liverpool were forced into the sale of Philippe Coutinho in January, the club

made it a priority to keep its star players.

Firmino's signature was one of the main objectives of Liverpool sporting director

Michael Edwards.

Firmino has tallied 26 goals in all competitions for Liverpool.

He has added 13 assists on top of the goals he has registered.

The Brazilian joined Liverpool in July 2015 from Germany's Hoffenheim.

Liverpool paid £36.9m to land Firmino's services.

At the time of his signing, Firmino played as an attacking mifielder.

However, during his time under Jugen Klopp, the Brazilian has become one of the most accomplished

No. 9 strikers in all of the world.

Liverpool take on Roma in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals on Wednesday

night.

Firmino tallied twice in the Reds' 5-2 mauling of Roma in the first leg.

The announcement of Firmino's new contract will be a boost to Liverpool after the club
