Presents Home Visiting Strategy

The home visiting strategy and community monitoring strategy are complementary.
As noted, in home visiting we work individually with the child and with the mother.
Something that is very important to highlight
is that the promoter, the community agent, is developing capabilities both of the child and of the mother,
because once the promoter is not there, the mother must continue putting into practice all those learnings that have been shared with her.
The home visit has 4 moments:
At first a greeting is given, a good contact is established.
We believe that empathy, that link generated between the promoter and the mother,
will make this project sustainable, because it will develop in her the conviction about the messages that are being shared with her.
Next, the community agent is responsible for collecting the progress on the commitments that have been reached in previous visits.
– Last time we were talking about nutrition...
–How is this chubby boy, has he been eating five times a day?
– Five, oh! ... oh good, good,
(inaudible)
Good, that's great, congratulations. Well done.
If the mother has fulfilled those commitments, the next messages continue;
but if they have not been met, it is very important for us
to guarantee the fulfilment of the previously agreed commitments
in order to provide the opportunities that the child needs, both in health, in nutrition, in early stimulation...
Thirdly, we move on to the practical part:
We believe in practical learning or learning by doing, people learn by doing.
Then, in this practical part, a demonstration session takes place,
whether regarding hand washing, chlorinated water for safe water consumption,
regarding nutrition, preparation of balanced meals,
and also the portions that the child should be eating according to their age,
and regarding education, a much shorter learning session
than what is done in the community monitoring centre
so that the mother can go on, in everyday life,
knowing what stimuli she can provide her child to learn, to develop.
After this demonstrative part, we reach a commitment with the mother.
For us, it is very important that it is the mother herself who says what she is committing to,
not the community agent imposing the commitment.
Only if it comes from her, she is really believing in this commitment and she will fulfill it,
and we will be able to move forward.
