Waching daily Apr 27 2018

Fox News released a poll this week that they conducted that actually had some results that

I'm sure that they didn't want to reveal to the public because according to Fox News own

poll, a majority of people in this country, Democrats and Republicans, actually believe

that Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor, is going to uncover impeachable criminal offenses

committed by Donald Trump.

56% of the respondents in that poll said they believe Robert Mueller is going to find impeachable

offenses the further he looks into Donald Trump's history.

However, a word of caution here because bipartisan majorities of both parties also agree that

it's very likely that Donald Trump is going to fire Robert Mueller before the probe ends.

The poll then went on to ask another question about do you think this probe is important,

to which 64%, including Democrats and Republicans, said that "Yes, it is important that this

probe continues."

So, this poll conducted by Fox News flies in the face of everything that this network

has been telling us for months, and months, and months.

They've been telling us the probe is going to go on too long.

They've repeated the President's talking point that it's a witch hunt.

That it's concocted by Democrats to make up for their 2016 election losses.

Or that it's not going to find anything because there was no collusion, no collusion, no collusion.

Well guess what?

The public, including many of your viewers, happen to disagree with you on that, and now

you have your own set of data that you created that shows that.

And here's another reason why this poll is so important.

It has a margin of error of only three points.

I know a lot of people may not think that that is important, however as somebody who

has a degree in political science, and somebody who studied political science research methods

in college, I can tell you that according to what political scientists are actually

taught, you're never supposed to put trust in a poll that has a margin of error greater

than three.

A lot of the polls that have come out recently have margin of errors of five, six points.

Those are pretty much unreliable at that point.

But three or less, those are polls that you should take seriously, and this Fox News poll

happens to be one of the more accurate polls that we have seen come out in a very long

time.

What could be next after the inter-Korean summit | In The News - Duration: 3:40.

If you are optimistic that these talks will result in the next step towards unification.

Thanks for having me. Well, you know, based on the mood and the

atmosphere that we've been seeing today with the opening shots of Kim Jong-un

crossing and the handshakes and the big smiles and all the heightened

expectations leading up to today, I think it's quite safe to assume that the

summit will actually be successful because both leaders desperately want it to succeed.

However, the big question is, you know, will the two leaders be able

to declare some sort of peace that goes beyond just rhetoric and words?

Will they be able to agree on some detailed steps that implement past inter-Korean

agreements that also declared peace and also declared working towards peace, but

in the past, you know, these inter-Korean agreements, both summit level and other

high level agreements, they all broke down because the North reneged,

the North never lived up to their expectations and there was also the complication

between the U.S. and North Korea that also caused Pyongyang not to live up to

any inter-Korean agreements. So I'd be looking out for those types of details,

what institutional mechanisms, if any, will the two leaders be able to agree on

so that they don't just walk away with just feel good words about peace and

unification. So there's a long way to go, I would not assume or expect

that peace and unification is suddenly now here just because they declared it today.

No of course Duyeon, this is Martin, let me

quickly jump in with a question. On the sole issue of whether or not and how

they declare peace or not, I mean right now it's the armistice which is still in

force so technically both sides are still at war. I mean what shape or form

could this peace declaration take, one, and two, isn't that and wouldn't that

be more left for the Trump-Kim hoped for summit end of May, early June?

Right so, what the Moon administration, ever since he was chief of staff in the

previous progressive administration, what they've envisioned

was having -- there are many scenarios but among them one is the two Koreas

signing some sort of peace agreement or peace accord or declaration, and then

having the U.S. and China pick up from there, and support that, and have that

lead to a formal peace treaty that replaces the armistice, but there's so

many technicalities involved, there are legal issues involved

and so, you know, it's really unclear whether the U.S. and China would be able

to easily or quickly agree to signing a peace treaty, you know, and

back in like the late 90s, the two Koreas, the U.S. and China they were engaged in

what were called formal Four-Party Talks that discussed this very issue to sign a

peace treaty and what that looks like, but over two years they had about,

I think, six rounds of talks but they broke down because the North, first up

back then, they thought they did not want Seoul at the table, they did not want

South Korea as a signatory, and the North demanded the withdrawal of U.S. troops

from the Korean Peninsula as a precondition for that peace treaty.

JDTV News 4/27/18 - Duration: 7:59.

Auto shop is on the chopping block...

(beat) Native Youth Olympics are underway in Anchorage...

(beat) And we have some advice for next year's students...

Also on the show, we have Weather with Fubao, Sports, and Calendar.

Aaaand one of our Bio's!

All coming up right here on JDTV news.

Welcome to JDTV News, I'm your host, Luke.

...and I'm your other toast, Olivia.

Don't you mean pretzel?

Pretzel?

That doesn't make sense.

Yeah it does, it's National Pretzel Day.

Oh, well I hope we have salty show.

The auto shop class may be cut from JDHS due to budget cuts.

Mr. Squires is the auto shop class teacher.

Two of our very own JDTV News crew members went to the town hall meeting where they talked

about our school budget this past Wednesday at 5:30pm where they discussed funding for

schools including our CTE classes.

(COSGROVE: "These transfers account 95,402,600 dollars of the FY19 operating budget.

During the weekend finance committee's meetings in April and May we walk through the components

in budgeting and explain changes through the prior year ")

(MIA: " As a CTE teacher, how do you feel about that?")

(SQUIRES: "well of course it makes me sad especially that the auto program is on the

chopping block.

I've been teaching the class for 19 years, and we've had a working agreement with the

university for about 35 years.

So it's kind of sad if it does come to an end.

Still hoping there's some way we can come to some agreement, but yeah, it's not looking

good right now.")

(MIA: "We also interviewed some of Squire's students.

Here are their takes on it.")

(DYLAN: "Personally, I'm a little upset.

Um, auto is a very big part of our community, especially with snow people crash and stuff

and you need car repairs and there's gotta- people have to be trained to do that kind

of stuff, and when you want to go into a program that focuses on an auto technician, or a mechanic,

or anything that has to do with auto, you have to have at least one year of auto in

high school.

and if we take that away there's gonna be countless jobs in our community and outside

our community that won't be there anymore ...")

On Wednesday, the Juneau Native Youth Olympic team left for the state competition in Anchorage.

The team is quite excited as they are the first NYO team that represents the city of

Juneau in twenty-seven years.

Our NYO team has a mixture of seven high school males and three middle school females.

Hopefully more people will join the team next year.

This year we have around fifty teams from all over the state of Alaska and the Yukon

territory.

Do you need advice to help you with the next school year?

Well, we asked some of our JDHS students for some tips and tricks to make the school year

easier.

(Adele: "I just say have fun, its a pretty - it's a long four years.")

(Finn: "As freshman do more things and as not freshman do less things.

And be better at the things you do")

(Darin:"Get your work done")

(Adele:"Just make the most of it.

But don't have too much fun.

Be sure to do your school work as well.")

(Bella:"Focus on your grades more than anything.")

(Haeley:"Don't care what people think of you.")

(Forrest:"Do your homework.

That is very important.")

(Eric:"Try really hard not to procrastinate.")

(Sophia:"Do your work.")

(Arthur:"Be organized")

(Finn:"Don't skip class and like, do your homework and stuff ")

(Forrest:"Stay organized, stay on top of everything")

(Arthur:"Do your homework.")

(Noah:"really being in high school isn't that hard and it will be over soon enough.")

Now we are gonna take a look at sports.

This week has been kind of slow in sports but girls soccer is in full swing.

On April 19th, the Girl's soccer team beat West Anchorage with a score of 3 to 0.

On April 21st West Anchorage got back at us 0 to 1.

And on Thursday, the 25th, we beat Service 1 to 0.

And on April 21st, Saturday, the JDHS softball team went up to Ketchikan and played.

Their first games on Friday were cancelled due to the weather.

That is all we have for sports.

Now on to a salty calendar...

Tonight, April 27th, there are baseball games going on at Adair Kennedy, along with softball

games at the TMHS field.

The baseball games will be at 7pm, while the softball games will be at 5pm and 7pm.

Tomorrow, April 28th, there are baseball and softball games again at the same fields.

The baseball games are 4pm and 7pm, and the softball team has games at 12:30pm, 3pm, and

5:30pm.

On Sunday, April 30th, the baseball team wraps up a week of games, starting at 4pm, with

another game at 7pm.

On Tuesday, May 1st, it's UAS Enrollment day.

There will be UAS advisors here at JDHS from 9am - 3pm in the atrium on the third floor.

On Wednesday, May 2nd, Joe Torrillo will be speaking at Centennial Hall for the Pillars

of America Speakers series.

The event will take place from 11am - 1:15pm.

Thursday, May 3rd, there's a parent group meeting taking place at JDHS in the upper

library from 12pm - 1pm.

Wow that's a lot of stuff going on!

That's it for the calendar for the next week.

Now to see if we'll be having some chill-y cheese weather.

Next up we go to FuBao who went outside for the weekend forecast.

Take it away FuBao!

(FuBao: "Hello I'm FuBao, it's time for the weather.")

(FuBao: "Friday, partly cloudy, the high 52, and the low of 37")

(FuBao: "Saturday, partly cloudy, the high 52, and the low of 41")

(FuBao: "Sunday, light rain, the high 49, and the low of 38")

(FuBao: "Well, that's it for weather.

Back to the studio!")

Thanks FuBao, now come inside and have some warm pretzels.

Now for a doughy twist, we have Olivia's bio.

Better get ready for warm, salty humor.

(OLIVIA: "Hi, I'm Olivia Moore, and I'm here to tell you about my amazing life.

Here at JDHS, I like to challenge myself with the sport of tennis.

Oh, it's the spanish room.

I remember when I went to Spain and got my passport and all our money stolen, so we stayed

in a homeless shelter, moving on.

Well, lookie here I have a brace on my arm.

I remember when I broke my first and ONLY bone, which was my wrist when I was thrown

off a horse, wasn't that fun?

And that's all for now! *smooch*")

Well my bio was full of twists and turns, much like a pretzel.

I agree.
