Today we´re making a classic Spanish dessert

Homemade Flan

now flan is made in many different flavors

with vanilla being the most popular

but today we´re making one of my personal favorites

Flan de Café

Coffee flavored Flan

this flan has a gorgeous flavor to it

and it´s light on its feet

it´s not too sweet and doesn´t feel to heavy

ok you guys don´t want to miss this recipe

that way you can make this flan at home

and impress your family and friends

with a beautiful Spanish dessert

we´re going to get started by making our

caramel sauce first

add 1/3 cup white sugar

into a small non-stick frying pan

also add 2 tablespoons of water

and 1/2 a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice

and heat it with a medium heat

we´re going to cook this between 5 to 6 minutes

without stirring anything

after 6 minutes and we already have this

beautiful golden brown color

our sauce is done

you know whatever you do

you don´t want to over-cook this

otherwise it´s going to have a bitter flavor

now you want to evenly distribute the sauce

into 4 individual flan ramekins

ok we´re moving on to the Flan base

add 1 1/4 cups of organic milk into a bowl

also add 1/2 a cup of coffee

I´m using expresso

but you can use any type of coffee that you like

regular or decaf

and 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla extract

and mix everything together until it´s well combined

in a seperate bowl crack 3 large organic eggs

and beat them

and then slowly pour in 1/3 cup of white sugar

while you continue to mix

once all the sugar is well incorporated

start slowly pouring in the milk mixture

until everything is well combined

now I´m going to run the mixture through a sieve

and into a pitcher

this step is not necessary

but it does assure a smooth flan

and then evenly distribute the mixture

into the 4 flan ramekins

now I´m going to add the flans into a pre-heated oven

bake only option

175 C - 350 F

for exactly 45 minutes

after 45 minutes

I´m going to take the flans out of the oven

and transfer them to a wire rack

after letting them cool for about 20 minutes

I´m going to cover them with seran wrap

and add them to the fridge

after leaving our flans in the fridge for 4 hours

they´re ready to go

they'll hold for up to 3 days

I´m going to grab 1 of them and plate it for presentation

I´m going to run a pairing knife around the flan

then place a plate on top

flip it

give the ramekin a quick shake and lift

and then pour all that extra caramel sauce on top

and I´m going to garnish it with some whipped cream

ok now I´m going to give the flan a try

and look how beautiful that came out

here we go...Salud!
