Roma goalkeeper Alisson has emerged as a target for Liverpool this January, according to reports

in Italy.

Alisson, 25, has made 40 appearances for Roma since joining the club back in 2016,

and has established himself as first-choice shot-stopper at Stadio Olimpico following

Wojciech Szczesny's departure.

The Brazilian's performances in Serie A have put Paris Saint-Germain on red alert,

but it's understood Jurgen Klopp is also expressing a strong interest.

La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Liverpool could 'sacrifice' Simon Mignolet in order

to get a deal over the line for Alisson.

Both Mignolet and Loris Karius continue to struggle between the sticks at Anfield and

a number of 'keepers have been linked with moves to Merseyside.

PSG misfit Kevin Trapp hinted back in November that he would be keen on working under Klopp

at Liverpool.

'It's an amazing club with a great tradition,' Trapp told Sport1.

'And of course, I'm a fan of the Premier League.

The Reds are not without interest, they have already won many titles and Jurgen Klopp is

of course a very good coach.

'I have not thought of possible clubs yet.

However, many things can happen in football.

Even if I'm not the most patient person, I have to stay cool.'

Arsenal are preparing to cut short striker Stephy Mavididi's season-long loan spell at

Preston North End and send him to Charlton Athletic.

The 19-year-old has struggled for regular opportunities at Deepdale, making just three

Championship starts in a campaign dogged by injury.

Mavididi was left out of the squad for the 3-2 defeat to Middlesbrough on New Year's

Day, with Arsenal locked in talks to send the teenager back to Charlton, according to

The Evening Standard.

Karl Robinson's side acquired the England Under-20 international on a six-month loan

last January, with the manager describing him as having a "bright future".

However, he returned to the Emirates Stadium just four weeks later after tearing his hamstring.

But Mavididi will get another opportunity to impress at The Valley and will be tasked

with boosting their League One play-off bid.

Robinson has confirmed a deal to acquire a versatile new forward – Mavididi can play

in a wide role or more centrally – is in the offing but refused to disclose the identity

of the player in question.

"He is a good player – proven at this level," said Robinson, speaking on Monday (1 January),

according to South London Press after the 2-1 loss to Gillingham during which striker

Leon Best suffered a knee injury.

"He will excite people."

"It has progressed.

The player has agreed, it is just finalising one or two things.

He is a semi-striker in some ways.

He can play up there, behind the striker or wide.

He can play three different positions.

"We need strikers – that is obvious to everyone.

He wants to come and he has experience at this level."
