Arsenal are considering a move for £30m-rated defender Caglar Soyuncu, according to reports.
Despite being just 21-years-old, Soyuncu has already managed to establish himself in Freiburg's
first XI.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted after the January transfer window that he should
have strengthened his side's defence.
Club captain Per Mertesacker is retiring imminently, while Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi
have been below par this term.
Arsenal's new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has identified Soyuncu as a top summer transfer
target.
Bundesliga outfit Freiburg will not be prepared to let their man leave for a bargain price
however.
The Turkey international is particularly comfortable in possession and has even been likened to
German legend Mats Hummels.
"I've learnt a lot, especially tactically," Soyuncu said recently about his time at Freiburg
so far.
"For me it is like a puzzle - first the instructions are quite abstract, but in the
end everything gets a practical dimension.
That really excites me."
Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier was quick to dampen rumours that they will accept
any offers however.
"He's not for sale," he said.
"It doesn't matter how much money's involved, he's not going anywhere.
"He's done really well and we want to continue working together - and he does, too."
Arsenal scouts were in attendance to watch their target help Turkey secure a 1-0 win
over the Republic of Ireland on Friday.
Despite Saier's protestations, the Daily Mail report that a bid in the region of £30m
could be enough to prise Soyuncu away from Freiburg.
It will be a solid profit for the club, who signed him for just £2.4m from Altinordu
in 2016.
