Ernesto Valverde's Fetbol Club Barcelona carried on their triumphant season with a win against Deportivo Alaves.
It wasn't so straightforward for Barça, they had to come from behind, but once again Luis Suarez and Leo Messi
were there when it mattered.
The Uruguayan-Argentinian combination continue to decimate defences; between the two of them they've
scored 19 times in their last 8 games in LaLiga.
"We want to keep enjoying ourselves together on the pitch, and improve certain areas. There's still a way to go.
We've got to treat each game as it if it were the last, and work as hard as we can. We're now in the most important
and difficult phase of the season."
This weekend Barça are facing an Espanyol team who are far from their best.
They've started the second half of the season with two defeats against Sevilla and Leganes and their European
dreams are fading fast.
Their coach, Quique Sanchez Flores, couldn't hide his dissatisfaction after his side's defeat at the Butarque.
"In certain positions we need players that can lead the line and take responsibility. We looked like orphans out
there today. We lacked the defensive qualities that gave us so much confidence and security last year.
We lacked the level-headedness that was there last season"
This Sunday will see the third Barcelona derby of the season, as the two teams also met up in the Cup.
A two-legged encounter, in which Barcelona came out on top though Espanyol made it as difficult as possible and
indeed won the first leg, their first ever derby victory at Cornella.
Barça have visited the RCDE stadium eight times in LaLiga, winning five and drawing three.
Luis Suarez got a brace in their 3-0 win last year.
Espanyol, will be looking to repeat that cup performance when Barcelona suffered a setback for the first time
in months, and hoping that they can once again spring a surprise on the league leaders.
"We've got to perform well again, stay focussed from the first minute 'til the last. We'll be looking to do what we
did in the first leg of the cup but first we've got to believe in ourselves and work really hard"
Barcelona, are still without the injured Dembele and Vermaelen.
The only change from the side that played against Alaves is the possible return of Sergio Busquets.
The home side for their part will have everyone available except for Pablo Piatti, who is still nursing an injury
It looks like it's going to be a cracking Catalan derby in the RCDE Stadium this Sunday.
Barça will be going all out to further their dominance of the league.
Espanyol want to give hope to their fans by overcoming the strongest possible opponent.
It's the big game of the matchday weekend in LaLiga Santander.
