WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been barred from using the internet at the Ecuadoran

Embassy in London for supposedly interfering in other countries' affairs.

The Ecuadorian government says he violated an agreement with the embassy, where he has

been holed up for nearly six years, to not comment on international issues.

It added his social media activity put Ecuador's good relations with the UK, EU and other nations

at risk.

Assange recently expressed strong support for separatist leaders in Spain's Catalonia

region.

He also was engaged in a heated clash of words with a British minister on Twitter, questioning

London's claim that Russia was behind the poisoning of a former Russian spy in Salisbury.

Ex-president Park Geun-hye consulted with Choi Soon-sil on how to deal with Sewol-ho ferry sinking - Duration: 1:37.

Prosecutors investigating former president Park Geun-hye's infamous "missing seven hours"

during the 2014 Sewol-ho ferry sinking have found that she waited to get advice from her

close confidante before holding the first emergency meeting on the disaster.

Kim Hyo-sun tells us more.

It's been found that former president Park Geun-hye consulted with her confidante Choi

Soon-sil on how to deal with the sinking of the Sewol-ho ferry in April 2014.

Prosecutors,... striving to solve the so-called "seven-hour mystery" about what Park did while

the ferry sank in waters off the nation's southwest coast,... have found that Choi was

called into the presidential office and held a meeting with Park as well as her close aides.

The investigation also shows Park only left for the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures

Headquarters after Choi suggested she did so.

She arrived at the headquarters at around 5 p.m.,... some seven hours after the "golden

time" for a rescue operation.

The prosecution was once again able to prove Choi's involvement in state affairs by tracking

the credit card use and vehicle of Lee young-sun, a former administrative staff member at the

Blue House,... whom prosecutors saw as the messenger between the former president and

Choi.

On Wednesday,... prosecutors also indicted four of Park's aides,... including her former

chief of staff Kim Ki-choon,... for fabricating the time log of the report on the sinking.

Three-hundred-four people, mostly high school students on a field trip, died in the disaster.

'2030 Sports Vision' presents agenda of sports for people - Duration: 2:29.

When major sporting events like the PyeongChang Winter Olympics end,… the focus often shifts

to the mid and long-term legacy those events provide for the host country, in this case

South Korea.

Local policymakers and experts gathered on Wednesday to address initiatives that are

sustainable for communities that go all-out to host such events.

Won Jung-hwan has more on the so-called '2030 Sports Vision'.

The legacy of major sporting events like the Olympics is often defined by how their infrastructure

is used after the games,... but other sporting legacies like participation, physical education

and future technology were the focus of the '2030 Sports Vision' briefing event in Seoul

on Wednesday.

With more than 150 participants including policymakers and sporting experts attending,...

the 2030 Sports Vision was specifically designed to serve as a platform for the public's voice

to be heard, and reflect the public's needs in the new sporting vision for the country.

Policymakers are formulating medium-to-long-term plans to respond to social changes such as

aging population,... by providing customized programs and local sports facilities and classes

for each generation.

Local residents also contributed with their opinions on what needs to be done.

"It seems that sports facilities are increasing,… but I hope that indoor sports such as table

tennis can be promoted much more to the public."

"There have been a lot of young people at the gym.

I wish more classes and sessions can be organized for older people like us to enjoy physical

activities."

By expanding physical education services at nursery schools and kindergartens,… the

government also plans to lay the foundations for young children to form healthy physical

habits from an early age.

Policymakers have also said they will expand sports facilities for the disabled so that

they can enjoy sports without inconvenience.

To carry out such measures,… the government seeks to create legislation that strengthens

links with local schools and expands national-level sports-education services.

"Along with the PyeongChang 2018 legacy,... the new sporting vision for 20-30 looks to

create a social environment that underscores values that stem from sports, such as team

cooperation and overcoming challenges.

Won Jung-hwan, Arirang News."

Japanese parliament passes record U.S. $926 bil. budget bill - Duration: 1:57.

Japanese lawmakers have passed a record budget bill with high social and military spending.

The passage comes amid skepticism of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's ability to push fiscal

reform as he faces a crisis over suspected cronyism.

Ro Aram reports.

The budget bill totaling a record 926 billion U.S. dollars was passed by the upper house

of Japan's parliament on Wednesday.

The budget is for the new fiscal year, which starts on Sunday, and is focused heavily on

social security and military spending.

Outlays for social security will rise to an all-time high of 311 billion dollars, accounting

for a third of the budget plan.

The large welfare spending is to respond to Japan's aging population, which has made it

difficult for the debt-ridden nation to rein in social security expenditures, such as pensions

and medical costs.

Military spending has also been earmarked at a record high of 49 billion dollars, rising

every year since Abe took office in 2012.

Abe has cited threats from North Korea as a need to strengthen his country's military

and has repeatedly called for an amendment to Japan's pacifist Constitution.

Some of the military budget will be used to acquire U.S.-developed missile defense systems.

With the passage of the budget bills, attention is shifting to debate on a mid-year fiscal

reform plan, which will come around June.

That will likely be aimed at trying to rein in Japan's debt that currently stands as the

highest in the industrialized world, amounting to more than twice the size of the country's

economy.

Failure to curb spending has cast doubt on Abe's will to back fiscal reform.

He has already pushed back a fiscal 2020 budget-balancing goal, opting to raise spending on child welfare

and education instead.
