Hi, I´m Sewul Kim.
Today I want to talk about 1st of March with my illustration.
1st of March is a holiday in Korea
for Sam-il jeol.
Sam-il literally means three and one.
In 1919 there was one of the earliest public displays of Korean resistance
during the rule of Korea by Japan which lasted 35 years, from 1910 into 1945.
As the processions continued to grow so quickly
from Seoul to all over the country,
Japanese officials called in military forces to quell the crowds
with 7,509 people killed, 15,849 wounded, and 46,303 arrested
The korean leaders fought with the korean flag in their hands
shouthing
"Man-se" means 10 000 years.
It is a long life.
If you have a long life, it´s a blessing.
So I suppose that the korean leaders would shouted this expression with two arms up
to celebrate a future victory of independence.
And we still use a lot this word.
To commemorate the korean leaders who fought against the korean independence
this day we put korean flag on the street,
public places, on windows and on balconies at home.
Nowadays, there are some ceremonies at the Seodaemun Independence Park in Seoul.
The south koreans usually are patroits
and we feel so thankful for
the korean leaders who died tortured for the independence of the country.
I hope you liked a very short presentation about the festive day in Korea
to understand a bit more about korean culture.
Don´t forget to subscribe!
and we see soon!
