What's up guys TJ here at the Freakopolis
Geekery with episode number 16
of The Good, The Bad, and The Freaky. Stick around
after the jump to find out our thoughts
on this week's comic and pop culture
news
So my Good this week is today is Image
Comics 25th birthday that's awesome yeah Happy Birthday Image
every 25 years ago comic superstars
like Jim Lee, Mark Silvestri, Todd McFarlane,
and Rob Liefeld left the big 2 Marvel
and DC comic publishers to form their
own company in Image Comics, today February
1st is the 25th birthday and they're
celebrating by having events in comic
shops all over the world they have also
released The Walking Dead #163
just for 25 cents, it's a 25 cent book - Yeah how
awesome is that a 25 cent comic you
can jump into The Walking Dead if you
were thinking of doing that
- yeah, absolutely we've got a ton of these
as well as a bunch of Image First one
dollar books like we had the Black Science
last week we've got Deadly Class, Fatale
and more Black Science so - some really
incredible runs that you can get in
on for cheap it's awesome
yeah this would be a great week to
celebrate Image's 25th birthday
- So my good this week is The Expanse is
premiering tonight, season 2 looks really
good this is a show about a couple of
factions in our solar system and a group
of heroes that gets caught in the middle
of their struggles, it's really crazy
it shows the SyFy's been doing some really
like top level stuff these days I love
this show -Yeah, season one was great
it sort of explore what if humans started
colonizing the near planets to us like
Mars and the asteroid belt, it gets
really crazy though towards the end of
the first season - Yeah, definitely it really
mixes it up at the end of the last season
just made people beg for more and it
took a long time to get the season two
now
yeah we're like over year out
- I'm super excited for the
premiere tonight - but it premieres tonight
at 10pm on SyFy - so try and catch
that
yeah super-good and now for our bad we
both agreed, trouble in the DC Cinematic
Universe lists at the top of our bad
this week
- yeah Ben Affleck has said that he's
stepping down from the director's
position for the batman film and
probably for the foreseeable DC
Cinematic Universe future
- yeah he's still writing the screenplay
as well as leading in the titular role
but Warner Brothers just seems to have a
hard time keeping their directors
The Flash has had two departures now Ben Affleck
has stepped down so I can only imagine
that they're scrambling to find somebody
truly worthy of you know heading up this
project - yeah they need someone who
understands DC, I mean it looks like
everyone's very excited for wonder woman
and the universe is coming to a very
pivotal point so they need to
have someone who really had some good
strength in directing a DC Universe
- yeah I can only imagine how hard it
would be to direct somebody that both
love the property, wrote the screenplay,
and is acting in the role, that's going to be a
hard place to put yourself in on top
of working with Warner Brothers who
seems to have trouble with their
directors, I'm really hoping it goes
well we find somebody worthy of it
- yeah I'm getting excited for where
they're going but it seems like a pretty
rocky road
And now for our Freakys
my freaky this week is Guillermo Del Toro's
Trollhunters. Dreamwork's series
Trollhunters on netflix is 26 episodes of
animated magic. It's so good. Trollhunters
follows Jim Lake, the world's first human
troll hunter tasked with defending our
human world from the evil troll Gunmar.
It is sort of a children's show but in the
sense that like How To Train Your Dragon
or a Big Hero 6 are children's
movies. I think it has broad appeal for
anybody that really loves animated film
- yeah it definitely had like dramatics
and overarching consequences and stuff
and a lot of character development
in the episode that I watched anyway - Yeah, for
the single series to have this
one big arc that they're traveling
through it not be sort of a serialized
show it works great
There's a ton of production quality.
Jim Lake is actually voiced by Anton
Yelchin who played Chekov in the recently
rebooted Star Trek series so it's nice
to see him you know kind of one final
act for him since he perished in a
terrible car accident so I'm loving
Guillermo Del Toro's Trollhunters I think
you should check it out too -Yeah, the
animation is just crazy good
it was awesome, so my Freaky
this week is Dune is getting a reboot
officially. Yep, the older movies have a
massive cult following it's a kind of
a strange sci-fi movie, a "weird" one if
you would say but very influential on
sci-fi as the whole since it came out and
I'm excited to see what this modern
retake of it would come to be
- I can't wait for more details, I know they
have a director signed I think maybe
just this morning it was announced it
should make for a very interesting
reboot - For real, I mean they could take
it in so many directions to make it
modern - It could benefit from
today's effects for sure
- Right, exactly anyone who's seen the old
movies you can appreciate the practical
effect but you can only imagine how it
could look with today's tech
that'll do it for this week's The Good, The Bad, and The Freaky
