Liverpool news: Injury blow as star misses training ahead of Bayern but duo offer boost - Duration: 2:49.

Liverpool may be forced to take on Bayern Munich without Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian missed training ahead of the Champions League Round of 16 tie

Firmino has been struggling with the effects of a virus and was not seen as the Reds underwent their final preparations at Melwood on Monday

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his star striker can return in time to face the Bundesliga giants, with Firmino considered a key component of Liverpool's high-intensity playing style

There was also no sign of Dejan Lovren during training as the Croatian continues to remain sidelined with a hamstring problem

Lovren's absence leaves Klopp short of options in central defence with Virgil van Dijk suspended for the Reds' first knockout match

Joe Gomez remains a long-term absentee due to a fractured leg so midfielder Fabinho is most likely to partner Joal Matip at the heart of the Liverpool rearguard

Firmino's replacement is less clear-cut with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri all options depending on Klopp's preferred formation

The latter was an injury concern but has now completed two full training sessions and could start in the No 10 role if Liverpool opt for a 4-2-3-1 set-up

There was further good news as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continued his return to full fitness after a serious knee injury

The England international was seen taking part in several light drills as he targets a comeback before the end of the campaign

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been named in Liverpool's Champions League squad but is not thought he will be available for selection until the quarter-finals in April – if the Reds progress that far

Bayern head into the match three points behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and undefeated in the Champions League so far, having topped Group E ahead of Ajax, Benfica and AEK Athens

News24 - Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd identify top target, Chelsea exit update, Arsenal readying bid - Duration: 4:43.

TRANSFER NEWS LIVEManchester United have made Milan Skriniar their top targetReal Madrid will not sign Eden Hazard if they manage to land NeymarArsenal are ready to move for Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega09:10 UPDATE: Wenger on Ozil Arsene Wenger has warned Unai Emery that replacing Mesut Ozil could cost him as much £100million

The French coach, speaking at the Laureus World Sports Awards, said: "I feel that the length of the contract has nothing to do normally with the selection of the team

But sometimes there are special cases.  "Most of the time now we think when we sign a player for five years we have a good player for five years

"But that doesn't necessarily mean that they practise, they play their best. Because they might be in their comfort zone

"He has a contract but the problem is that, if you want to buy a player like him, you have to spend £100m

"08:30 UPDATE: Liverpool eye Sancho Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed his interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho

When asked if he would like to sign Sancho, Klopp said: "Buying English players is a smart idea because we would never have a chance to get Sancho

"We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him and then we think 'Can we get him?' No

Because English clubs don't sell to other English clubs. "I don't know exactly what the reason is for that but they don't do it

Now they can go to Germany which is a wonderful league." 08:10 UPDATE: Man Utd top target revealed Manchester United have made Milan Skriniar their top target this summer

The Independent claim the Inter Milan centre-back tops the Red Devils' wishlist, with Ed Woodward ready to spend

Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and Sampdoria's Joachim Andersen are also targets for United, however, Skriniar is the No 1 choice

The Independent add that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already voiced his opinion to the United board over potential singings

07:45 UPDATE: Hazard to Real Madrid update Real Madrid will not sign Eden Hazard if they splash the cash and land Neymar this summer, transfer expert Ian McGarry claims

"I guess a problem for Madrid is maybe half of their squad is ageing and needs to be upgraded," he said on The Transfer Window podcast

"Spending so much money on one player would be a little bit of a gamble, but at the same time they've got some very good young players coming through, so bringing Neymar in, I suppose you could look at the positive side of the encouragement factor

"This is very bad news for Eden Hazard, because I don't see Hazard and Neymar going to the Bernabeu given the similarities between the two players

"So that would be an interesting one in the mix, would PSG look to replace Neymar with Eden Hazard, who of course began his career in France? "So the fact that Madrid are vry serious about it doesn't surprise me

"07:20 UPDATE: Arsenal eye bid Arsenal are ready to move for Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega this summer

The Mirror claim Unai Emery is a huge fan of the 30-year-old after working with him at Sevilla and Valencia - and he's keen to reunite in London

Arsenal tried to sign Banega in January, however, a deal wasn't agreed. The Gunners will have to cough up around £17m for Banega this summer

Liverpool news: Bayern star Robert Lewandowski reveals what he's heard ahead of showdown - Duration: 2:49.

Liverpool host Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League tie at Anfield tonight

The Reds will be aiming to make the knockout stages of Europe's top club competition again after reaching last year's final, where they were beaten by Real Madrid in Ukraine

Bayern Munich started the season sluggishly under Niko Kovac but have hit their stride recently, winning games against Hertha Berlin, Schalke and Augsburg in recent weeks

Anfield is primed to be a cauldron of noise - and it often is on big Champions League evenings

Lewandowski has never played on Merseyside. But the Poland international has revealed that he has heard great things about the Anfield atmosphere

When asked if he's heard about the atmosphere, Lewandowski told BBC Sport: "Yes I've heard a lot

"And I love it when I can play in a stadium like Anfield with the fans. "Maybe the fans will be against me but I love this and I love this feeling

" Trending  Lewandowski also believes the contest will be tricky given Liverpool's current form

The striker added: "Of course it will be a very difficult and tough game. "We know Liverpool are on top in the Premier League, they are playing really well

"But it's the Champions league, something special, and we also know we have very good and quality players

"We also have to think about what we should do.  "Ok the first game is in Liverpool but this is the Champions League, anything can happen

"You have to be ready and you have to play from the first to the 95th minute at 100 per cent

Maybe even 100 and ten per cent, and to be ready." Lewandowski came close to moving to England twice earlier in his career

Had it not been for the volcanic ash from the eruption of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull, he would have signed for Blackburn Rovers in 2007

And he was once a Manchester United transfer target for Sir Alex Ferguson, only for the Red Devils to move for Robin van Persie in 2012 instead

Tennis news - Novak Djokovic thankful for life lessons in stunning recovery - Duration: 4:26.

The Serbian was convalescing from elbow surgery a year ago and his subsequent struggles on his return to the ATP Tour a couple of months later left many fearing he was in terminal decline

But Djokovic wiped out any doubts in the second half of last year by winning Wimbledon and the US Open en route to reclaiming top spot back in the rankings

Video - Three is the magic number: Djokovic makes more history00:51 He has since added a record seventh Australian Open title to move to 15 grand slams, and his 2018 achievements saw him honoured in the principality for the fourth time in his career, pipping fellow nominees Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James, Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric and Eliud Kipchoge to one of the evening's top prizes

Djokovic said: "Twelve months ago, I was on the surgery table so I hope that was the last surgery that I ever have

"But at the same time I'm really pleased with how the surgery went because it allowed me to be – five weeks after the surgery – back on the court

Video - Exclusive: Materazzi: Juve must win Champions League or season has been a failure01:41 "I was very anxious to be back on the court to compete, and very impatient, because I was not ready emotionally and my game was not there and not even close

" "But in my mind knowing what I'm capable of and the quality of my tennis I felt like it's not going to take much time for me to get there

That's where I had the reality check. "Then for several months I was experiencing some really challenging and difficult months mentally on the court where I was questioning everything and really doubting as well

"There were many, many life lessons that I've learned along the way in the last 12 months and to be able to be recognised for that was a privilege and an honour

" Djokovic admitted there were moments when he was at his lowest where he would sometimes lash out at either himself or those around him

Having ended a two-year wait for a grand slam win at SW19, Djokovic believes he had to attempt to find satisfaction from within

He added: "Probably one of the biggest takes I've had in the last couple of years is that it really does depend only on me: whether I'm going to take these challenging situations and obstacles as an opportunity to grow, to rise, to get better or let them defeat me

"That kind of a mindset was very helpful in the moments where I really needed that strength

I had to find it inside rather than outside. "I didn't know that a couple of years ago, I was looking for things outside and maybe blaming people around me or blaming myself and not really understanding that things are as they should be and you just have to learn

" "There's a learning curve of life and you have to embrace it and accept it." Simone Biles scooped her second statuette after becoming the first female to win four world gymnastics titles in the all-around discipline in Doha last November

Liverpool news: Injury blow as star misses training ahead of Bayern but duo offer boost - Duration: 2:47.

The latter was an injury concern but has now completed two full training sessions and could start in the No 10 role if Liverpool opt for a 4-2-3-1 set-up

There was further good news as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continued his return to full fitness after a serious knee injury

Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri slammed for one of WORST ever decisions in Man Utd loss - Duration: 3:45.

That's according to ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley. With the Blues 2- down at Stamford Bridge and less than 1 minutes remaining, Sarri introduced Davide Zappacosta in place of Cesar Azpilicueta much to the bemusement of the home fans

The Italian coach had attacking options in Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud, both frustrated at their lack of minutes for the club, in reserve but opted for a defensive change instead

Sarri was on the end of widespread criticism from the Chelsea fans inside the ground with the 6-year-old coach now having seemingly lost the support of the fans and also, arguably, the players

Chelsea have lost five games in 219 alone - including a - loss to Bournemouth and a 6- humiliation at Manchester City - and Sarri is under mounting pressure amid calls for Roman Abramovich to dismiss him as manager after eight months in charge

And former Chelsea midfielder Burley believes Sarri is creating a rod for his own back with his decision-making and insists he is increasingly close to the sack

"He's on the brink," Burley said while reflecting on Chelsea's miserable cup exit to rivals United

"The things that are embarrassing, the -3-3 constantly - they're playing Man City in the League Cup at the weekend and he'll play -3-3 again, he'll play Jorginho and Kante out of position and probably Kovacic or Barkley and then he'll sub them

"It's embarrassing. Willian for Pedro? Like for like. Then it had to happen, Barkley on for Kovacic

"But something that's almost a sacking offence in itself bearing in mind the scenario is bringing on Zappacosta for Azpilicueta

"I don't care if Azpilicueta's leg is hanging off and he had to go off, you've got Hudson-Odoi and Giroud on the bench and you're 2- down

"That's the worst substitution I've seen in professional football for many a year

"There's no other way to put it, at the moment it looks like he's out of his depth

"I know he managed in Italy, he had certain players, he played a certain way, got a great amount of points - didn't win anything

"It's not going in the right direction. People that say Sarri is not going to change, well he's going to be sacked

"With any manager or any team, every manager says, 'It's not what I want to do because I want to do things a certain way but to buy myself a little bit of time at this club I need to find a way to get the pressure off, get through to the summer and give myself an opportunity to get rid of half a dozen and bring half a dozen in

' "If you keep plugging on the same way, you're only going to get fired and make yourself look completely out of your depth

" Chelsea take on City looking to restore some pride at Wembley this weekend having suffered their worst defeat in 28 years to Pep Guardiola's men less than a fortnight ago at the Etihad Stadium
