Greetings Wargamers & Players, Welcome to MiniatureWar, I'm Meinkopt and in this painting guide we shall see how to give color to a Sword Brethren from the Black Templars.
We start with the golds, so we can avoid in the future to stain the parts in this miniature that are in progress.
For this we use for the layer base Balthasar Gold, and then we apply a wash with Agrax Earthsahde.
We don't want to give a very bright golden tone, so we're going to give a light layer of Gehenna Gold, an then we mix a little of Auric Armor Gold to it and then give a very light layer o with it.
For the points of light that are more to the ends and edges, we add Ironbreaker Amor to the final mix.
With the golds finished, we proceed to paint the rest of the metals. For this we mix Abaddon Black with Bolmetal Gun.
Once the layer it's dry, we apply a wash with Null Oil.
Now we start to give soft stroke to this metals to create the degrading and worn out effect. The best to do it's to use a flat pointed brush.
Remember that we are not searching to use the dry brush technique, the brush need to be with diluted paint, little by little give soft strokes and the paint will create the effect.
Now we shall give a layer with Agrax Earthshade, this will add a old and dirt effect in the metal. Once dried we shall give it another light layer with Ironbreaker Armor.
The templar armor, excepth the edges of the shoulder pads are going in black, in this case it's a veteran for this the interior of the shoulder pads are going black and not white that's for a inferior rank in the order.
We have two possibilities, one it's to use the classic style that's painting all the armor in black color with Abaddon Black and then with gray profile the edges of the armor
or you can try to create the light effect over the amor using for the base black color and then mix it with gray in different proportions to create light and finally profile a little of the edges of the amor.
In this case we choose the second option.
For the second option, we choose where we want the focus of light and using that direction to create the effect.
The symbols and edges of the shoulder pads are going in red, for this we use a layer base with Khorne Red.
Then we mix Khorne Red with Mephistone Red for the first light in proportion of 30/70.
For the final light we use pure Mephistone Red and the edges we can give them with Evil Sunz Scarlet.
If you take the second step when you need to give the black, then you should paint the reds following the same pattern in the direction of the light.
For the tabard and the purity seals start with the same layer base, Kherni Brown.
Then we give a wash with Agrax Earthshade.
This are the only similarities in the steps.
For the purity seals we shall give soft strokes again with kherni Brown.
For the Tabard we mix Kherni Brown with White Scar. We start little by little in a proportion of 80/20 and from then we add more White Scar to create the color.
In this way we shall create a worn out and old Tabard.
For the bones and the reliquary we use a base with Calthan Brown, that we are going to mix with Ushabti Bone to get the bone tone.
For the straps and saddlebag we use a brown tone. The base will be with Rinox hide and then mix it with Mourfang Brown and give the light. Profile with Mourfang Brown.
And following this fast and simple steps we shall have our new Sword Brethren to command his squad of Black Templat.
