Waching daily Feb 2 2017

Chances are by now you know what LeBron said after absorbing the latest round of criticism

from Sir Charles.

Barkley clapped at LeBron for recently whining about needing another playmaker—something

the sanctimonious Barkley and his boys back in the '80s and '90s would never do.

But who among us expected LeBron to clap back like this?

"I'm not going to let him disrespect my legacy like that.

I'm not the one who threw somebody through a window.

I never spit on a kid.

I never had unpaid debt in Las Vegas.

I never said, 'I'm not a role model.'

I never showed up to All-Star Weekend on Sunday because I was in Vegas all weekend partying.

All I've done for my entire career is represent the NBA the right way.

Fourteen years, never got in trouble.

Respected the game.

Print that."

That was Petty LeBron, the alter ego of LeBron James we first identified back in June.

And quite frankly, we haven't hid the fact that we love Petty LeBron.

He's the LeBron James that isn't afraid to take shots at his haters.

He's the LeBron James that has no chill, that fights back, and won't sit quietly

while an inferior tugs at his cape.

Many will say LeBron probably should have taken the high road and let this one go.

As the leader of the Cavs and one of the game's best, he should set the right example.

What would M.J. do, they'd probably wonder?

I just want to know why it took Petty LeBron so long to rip Barkley a new one?

Because you can make a pretty strong argument that Barkley deserved this smackdown.

What we heard from Sir Charles on Monday is his brand.

He's brash, bold, and loud.

He gets paid handsomely to be an instigator.

Yes, you can easily mock LeBron for complaining about not having enough playmakers on the

roster when they clearly have a bunch of them—what, all of a sudden LeBron wants to be a carbon

copy of the Golden State Warriors in the Eastern Conference?

But Barkley loves to hammer LeBron and sometimes it sounds like he's just doing it for the

hell of it.

So whose side should you take in this?

The truth is there is no winner here.

Barkley got in a good shot.

LeBron countered with a devastating combo and won this round.

I'm guessing the majority of people will probably side with LeBron because, well, he's

LeBron, one of the greatest and in a stratosphere as a player Barkley wishes he resided.

We're sure some think Barkley's right.

We don't really care.

It's pure entertainment, so we hope the clap backs continue.

That's the news for now.

U.S. defense chief James Mattis heads to Seoul - Duration: 1:17.

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis is due in Seoul this afternoon,... for what will

be his first overseas trip since taking office.

This is in contrast with the former Obama administration that chose the Middle East

as its first foreign stop.

It's widely expected... that the new Pentagon chief will deliver a clear message regarding

Trump administration's security policies and North Korea's continued military threats.

"We understand the trip reflects the strong South Korea-U.S. alliance as well as Washington's

reassurance on its defense pledges for Seoul."

[ / : .]

Later today,... Mattis is set to meet Acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn...

and national security office chief Kim Kwan-jin.

On Friday morning, the first defense minister talks between the two countries under the

Trump administration will be held between Mattis and Seoul's defense chief Han Min-koo.

While eyes are focused on what results the talks will bear,... the two allies earlier

agreed upon pushing ahead with the planned THAAD missile defense system deployment on

the Korean peninsula.

They're also expected to discuss the U.S. sending various military assets to South Korea.

Trump's gay presidency - Duration: 3:01.

Trump's gay presidency.

By EDDIE SCARRY.

This piece was published the day after President Trump took office.

On Monday, he released a statement that he will continue enforcing an executive order

put in place by the Obama administration to protect employees from anti-LGBTQ workplace

discrimination while working for federal contractors.

On gay-related issues, the news media couldn't have picked a Republican president more in

sync with their views than Donald Trump.

But the country isn't dealing with a rational press right now.

The GOP was stuck on gay stuff until a New Yorker came along and cleared the field for

them by saying he was not only "fine" with same-sex marriage but also by actively embracing

gays in a bigger way than President Obama did.

Meanwhile, Trump, having grown up in the most diverse city in the world, is an outcast among

the gay-supporting national media.

In a cover piece for Newsweek in 2012, Andrew Sullivan dubbed Obama "the first gay president."

He also choked up on national television, calling Obama a "father figure" because he

said he supported gay marriage.

Obama's main claim to gay celebrity was changing his mind on marriage.

He opposed same-sex marriage before he was first elected in 2008 and then he came to

support it before his second term.

(By the way, the Supreme Court handled the dirty work, Obama simply nodded in approval.)

Trump was not the first to support gay marriage, but he did a lot.

After the mass terror shooting on the Orlando gay nightclub in June, he did what no other

Republican would have ever done.

He called it an attack on "the members of Orlando's LGBTQ community" and said the tragedy

was done "in order to execute gay and lesbian citizens because of their sexual orientation."

In July, Peter Thiel, founder of PayPal and a big Trump supporter, was the first person

ever to declare on stage at the Republican National Convention that he's "proud to be

gay."

And at the convention, Trump, accepting the party's nomination, said, "As your president,

I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression

of the hateful foreign [Islamic extremism] ideology."

Following a standing ovation and roaring applause, Trump broke from prepared remarks that were

handed out to media in advance.

"And I have to say," he said, "as a Republican, it is so nice to hear you cheering for what

I just said.

Thank you."

The country couldn't have had a more pro-gay president if it had elected Elton John on

Christmas Day.

Gov't to support rapidly-growing service sector with extra R&D investment - Duration: 2:21.

Moving now to some welcome news on the nation's trade front.

Korea's exports in January posted double-digit growth for the first time in four years.

The government is keen to keep the momentum going,... announcing new support measures.

Shin Se-min reports.

A surprise improvement on Korea's export front,... for the first time in 33-months... exports

have expanded for three straight months.

It's also the first time in four years that Korea's outbound shipments have logged double-digit

growth.

Exports rose 11-point-2 percent in January from last year… on the back of better sales

of semiconductors and petrochemicals.

Shipments rose to over 40-point-3 billion U.S. dollars last month, up from the 36-billion

tallied a year ago.

Imports, too, grew... posting an 18-point-6 percent rise on-year, bringing the country's

trade surplus to 3-point-2 billion dollars,... the 60th consecutive month with a surplus

on record.

Speaking about this rebound on the trade front in a meeting on Wednesday, Finance Minister

attributed the recovery momentum to a boost in facilities investment.

He also promised to help uphold the robust figures.

"For local firms doing business overseas, the government will put all-out efforts to

help them continue to win more contracts and solidify their position in the global market.

Also during the meeting, Minister Yoo unfolded the government's plan to boost the country's

service sector,... doubling its spending on research and development to some 4-billion

U.S. dollars over the next five years.

And with the advent of the fourth industrial revolution,... the government says it will

work to utilize new growth engines, like the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence,...

and boost productivity in the manufacturing industry.

This plan, could in turn, work to reduce Korea's reliance on the manufacturing sector, long

considered the engine for growth, and place more weight on the country's service sector.

With this, the government said it hopes to boost its ratio of R&D investment in the service

sector from the 8-point-6 percent logged last year to 13 percent by 2021.

OTHIE KING CENTER.

I AM EXCITED ABOUT THE CIRQUE DU

SOLEIL.

AND I AM THINKING ABOUT WALKING.

JAY: THERE WILL NOT BE ANY RAIN.

LOOKING GOOD.

I THINK AS WE GET INTO THE

OVERNIGHT, FOG COULD BE AN

ISSUE.

LET ME SHOW YOU.

WE WILL GE STARTED AND GO TO

ABOUT 1:00 OVERNIGHT TONIGHT,

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL SHOULD BE OVER

BY THEN.

THERE YOU CAN SE IT, AROUND 2-4

MILES.

AND FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE,

DOWN TO AROUND ONE MILE.

MY AFTERNOON IS LOOKING GOOD,

THE FOG SHOULD BE BURNING OFF.

IT BETTER CHANCE GOING INTO

FRIDAY MORNING, WE HAVE A LOT OF

GOOSE EGGS ON THE MAT.

KEEP UP -- MAP.

KEEP UP WITH THE WEATHER.

SOME OF TH FOG COULD BE

LINGERING.

AND THEN AS FAR AS CLOUD COVER,

WE HAVE GOTTEN SOME MORE CLOUDS

LOVE IT THERE IS A LOT OF

SUNSHINE AS WELL.

AND MORNING TEMPERATURES,

STARTING AROUND 47 AND 56 AT THE

AIRPORT.

MRS. -- THIS IS WHAT THE WEATHER

CENTER CUT UP.

TH AVERAGE IS 63 FOR THE HIGH

TEMPERATURES.

WE CONTINUE TO TREND ABOVE

AVERAGE AND IT WILL CONTINUE.

AND IN THE UPPER 60'S AT THE

COAST.

AND NOTICE, WE ARE IN THE LOWER

70'S FOR MANY PLACES, GALLIANO

IS AT 71, BELLE CHASSE AND THE

AIRPORT, 75.

AND IT HAS BEEN WINDY THE LAST

FEW AFTERNOONS AND CONTINUES

THIS AFTERNOON WITH WIND SPEEDS

AROUND 10- MILES PER HOUR.

I THINK THOSE WILL RELAX THROUGH

THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT HOURS.

AND AGAIN, OVERNIGHT AND INTO

THE MORNING, FOG WILL BE A

POSSIBILITY.

AND AGAIN ON FRIDAY MORNING.

TEMPERATURES WILL BE MILD.

ONLY SPOTTY SHOWERS UNTIL WE GET

A COLD FRONT PUSHING THROUGH.

THIS FRONT WILL STAY TO THE

NORTH AND IT WILL SLOWLY SAG TO

THE SOUTH, IT COULD COME THROUGH

ON FRIDAY.

IF IT DOES IT WILL BE WEAKER.

AND NO BIG DIPS IN THE JET

STREAM.

WHEN WE DO GET THE B DIPS, THE

COLD FRONTS MOVE THROUGH EASILY.

HERE I IS MUCH :00, AND A

LITTLE BIT OF -- IT IS, 2:00,

AND A LITTLE BIT OF FOG.

TOMORROW NIGHT GOING INTO FRIDAY

MORNING, WE COULD HAVE A SHOWER.

FRIDAY, ALTHOUGH THIS IS UNDER

DONE A LITTLE BIT, A 20% CHANCE

OF RAIN AS THE FRONT STRUGGLE TO

GET INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO.

TH FLOW IN THE UPPER LEVELS

WILL BE FLAT AND I THINK WE WILL

BE CLOUDY INTO FRIDAY EVENING.

AND MORE CLOUDS TONIGHT, LOWER

50'S AND WE WILL HAVE FOG.

AND THEN TOMORROW, BUT TO MID

70'S AND MOSTLY CLOUDY, MAYBE A

SHOWER OR TWO.

AND FOR THE SEVEN-DAY FORECAST,

TAKE A LOOK.

TOMORROW IS GROUNDHOG DAY.

IF PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL SEES HIS

SHADOW, IT IS MORE WINTER.

AND TEMPERATURES, BASICALLY INTO

THE 70'S.
