Pro confidences
Do people recognize you in the streets?
It depends on the country, but yeah it's more and more frequent, even in France
Not much, because I don't go out much...
More seriously, it depends on the place. It often happens in big cities, but not much in Nancy where I live
Not yet at least because I moved there not long ago and we were busy at the end of the year
But when I was in Toulouse in happened sometimes, or when I go to other countries like in Sweden, people recognize you easily
So it depends on the place
Not really often, but sometimes people recognize me...But then I live in England so...
CS:GO isn't as popular as COD over there, but yeah people recognize me sometimes
People recognize us in the streets when we go to Sweden or other Scandinavian countries, but in France or in Austria...
I haven't... or yes, during parties it happened
It happened to me a few times... it was more during the 1.6 era, but since CS:GO it happened twice, that's all
It happens. Not often, but it happens.
And strangely, even though we often say that geeks don't go out, it happens around 11-12 at night near bars
How do you explain your occupation to your relatives?
Recently it's been easier to explain because the scene grew a lot and the media are talking about it
So it's easier to talk about it, we can say there are future prospects and career change possibilities in this field
So that's how I explain it, I say "yes I'm a pro-gamer, it might seem strange but it's getting big"
Then they ask my which game I play, and if I play multiple games at the same time
So I tell them it's exactly like traditional sports, if you play football you don't play handball
So yeah, I try to explain it in an easy way so that people don't judge me thinking I'm just a geek
And it usually goes well, they understand that it's your passion
The thing is, my brothers were already playing CS before I picked it up, so it wasn't hard for them to understand that it became my occupation
The way I explain eSport to people who don't know about it... I just say it's like a traditional sport
Including the travels, the public becoming more and more interested to watch, the competition between teams
And there's no need to go into the details, the simplest way is to compare it to traditional sports
It's still a bit confused honestly, to put it simply I start by saying I'm a pro player
People are like "And which club are you playing in?"
No, well, I'm a pro 'video games' player, and I try to explain that it's a real job and that I have to travel a lot
I also try to fight against the clichés of course and prove they're wrong
Because well, the way people understand it... they have to understand the "no-life" stereotype doesn't apply to us
Of course we had to do some sacrifices to get where we are, but we can have a social life while being professionals
Well it's a bit complicated, I don't really like to say that I play on a computer and that I'm paid for it
So I usually say I do online tournaments, and that I manage to make a living out of it
Pro video game player, that's what I say. If they ask for more details I say Counter-Strike
And if they ask for even more details, I tell them how it works, about the tournaments, my training program, that we're a team of 5, etc.
What was your dream as a child?
Well I was a bit of a lazybones so I didn't even think about it, it came little by little while I didn't go to school to play CS
I was trying to balance both but it was difficult, so with time it became my dream
Becoming a pro CS gamer !
From when I was 12 I wanted to become a pro-gamer.
Actually, I first wanted to be a veterinarian, like many kids, but that was too much studies
My dad tried to becom a vet and he failed so he warned me about it
So I tried reading 2-3 books and I was like "Yeah right, too hard"
Then I got really into video games, I wanted to become a creator
Then I saw the level of studies required and I was like "Ok that's out too"
Then I started playing CS, and I started thinking it'd be great if I could make a living out of it, so it became my dream
When I was a kid, my dream was to go to the moon
More seriously, I really hoped CS would take off, because I was really fond of it since I was 9
Well I was a big football (soccer) fan, so I think just like every big fan my dream was to become a pro player
I was still at the beginning but I had a good level, then CS appeared and I kinda switched
My dream as a kid... I always had problems finding what I wanted to do and what kind of job
Of course, as a big football (soccer) fan there was a time I wanted to become a pro player
Then I became 4 years old and I quickly forgot about it. I also got interested in journalism
But after coming on CS I realized journalism isn't actually...
So yeah I had a hard time finding what I wanted to do, so I was lucky with CS
My dreams as a kid were probably like everyone else's, like becoming an astronaut, this kind of stuff
Well it's changed a bit since then ! But no I didn't have anything special
I just wanted to be happy with what I do, enjoy life... this kind of things
What are you main hobbies outside of the game?
What I like outside of the game... well it's being with my family, my girlfriend and my dog
And also football, I like it a lot. Even if I can't watch many matches I try to follow it as much as possible
Outside of the game... well I'm a gamer so video games ! I particularly like games with good storylines
Apart from that...cars and animals
It's very diverse, from cars to cats !
Fishing!
I don't have much hobbies outside of the game, CS is what I like the most, apart from it... that would be my wife
It's football, definitely
Sleeping and... I've also started going to the gym everyday
Who influenced you the most during your career?
I think the one who influenced me the most regarding my gameplay and mentality was Ex6TenZ
Just because he was the first person I really worked with, as a charismatic leader on Source
And I was young so it left a big mark, his way of training, and always training even when we were at the top
I think he's the one I learned the most from
It's NiaK (manager)
I would say my mother. Because I used to skip class to play CS for a long time, like many boys my age
And my mother lost it more than once because of me, but in the end I was lucky because even if I was doing stupid things
Well I made up for it since then, but at that time even if I was stupid, she never completely stopped me from playing
So I have to thank her for that, or I wouldn't be here today. That's why she influenced me the most
Well let's make a little dedication to shoxie, he's the one who got me out of the rathole I was in
I was a nobody and he found me and helped me to improve
My father, and Eddy (SmithZz)
The one who influenced me the most... without hesitation, it's NEO
How do you manage your money?
It's fifty-fifty.
I try to enjoy it reasonably.
Sure, I go on holidays, I love to please my family.
It's really important to me.
My mother did so many things for me. She raised me by herself.
And I try to give her and my grandmother back what I can.
I offer gifts to the people around me but I'm careful with my money.
I'm afraid that one day, it all stops.
And i don't want to regret that I spent too much money.
Regrets is the one thing I don't want to have so I try to be careful.
A little bit of both.
I'm young but I still have to think about my future.
I try to be careful but in the meantime, I still enjoy it
I've always been a big spender.
When I was 16 and had 130€, at the end of the month, there was nothing left.
I've always been a big spender and sadly still am a little bit.
I enjoy my money but I try to be more reasonable
I try to set money aside to secure my future a little bit.
Because we don't know what the future is made of and now is the best time to secure it.
I've earned a little bit of money and I have not spent a dime of it yet
If it continues, I think I'll invest in different projects.
I have investment plans, I have ongoing projects but I can't talk about them.
About future projects, it's true that now with the big tournaments we have on CS, it's become important to...
I'll take this from another angle
There are celebrities, like football players, who tend to say that as long as they get to play they concentrate on it 100%
And they'll see about the money later
I think it's better to balance a bit of both and enjoy yourself with it sometimes
Well, video games don't require a lot of money because once you've bought it you're happy
Whereas cars can cost a lot more... but yes find a balance and spend a bit for yourself
And I think it's really important to have investment plans and projects on the side
Because with the money we make now, we're supposed to live comfortably for the rest of our lives
We have to be intelligent and think about investing, it's really important
Have you already thought about your professional retraining?
I'd like to remain in eSports, be it as a player, analyst or something else
But if that's not possible I'll do import-export tradings with my parents
I'm still not thinking about it because I still have some years to go...at least I hope so
But I've got a BTS (French diploma) to back me up if I can't stay here, I should be able to find a job
Professional retraining...honestly I don't know, I'll try to remain a player as long as I can of course
I have other interests and projects, but as long as I can stay I won't think much about it
But I want to remain in the eSport world no matter what, I'm a gamer so I really like it
We also met a lot of people that we like and we want to work with
So yeah I'm a 100% sure I'll be in eSports, but after playing I might be interested in investing in new projects
So I want to keep a foothold in this sector and do my best
So as I said earlier I'm 21, but I'm thinking a lot about it
We don't know what might happen, I hope my career isn't near its end and I have reasons to think it isn't, but of course I'm thinking about what's next
It's still a bit confused because I don't know how it will be in the future, like in 10 years
But I think I'll remain in the eSports world
I stopped my studies before getting a diploma, I had to do it when I was with Titan because I couldn't balance both
And my school didn't want me to be too absent during classes
So I don't have much to find a job, and I still don't know
Of course I'll stay in eSports but how, I still haven't asked myself
But if I can't stay, I'll go back to study and try to obtain a diploma
So that I don't start struggling all of a sudden, because what we might not realize is that we're currently living a really comfortable life
We have money, we enjoy ourselves, etc.
But the day we go back to before, I'll hurt
So I'm trying to compromise between liking my job, and being paid a good salary
It'd be complicated to have a minimum salary. People will probably point fingers at me
But when you've got a certain quality of life and end up going back to the minimum
I don't know how I'll take it, so I'll do everything in order to earn a good living, no matter what I do in the future
I'm a 100% sure I'll still work in gaming, particularly eSports
We don't know what the future is made of, I don't know what I'll be doing exactly
Will I get better in English, enough to make an international or european career
If I don't have a sufficient level in English, maybe the French scene will grow and I'll be a French caster, analyst
Coach for another team, brand ambassador, work in the marketing or events sector for a gaming brand, a lot of possibilities, but always about gaming
Thanks to the players for answering our questions!
