Liverpool news: Graeme Souness echoes Man Utd icon Sir Alex Ferguson in Reds title worry - Duration: 3:01.

The Reds icon echoed Sir Alex Ferguson's famous quote from 2003 when Manchester United were battling Arsenal for the title

Liverpool are currently top of the table, four points clear of second-placed Tottenham

Manchester City can leapfrog Spurs on Sunday afternoon when they entertain Arsenal at the Etihad

Liverpool missed the chance of increasing the gap to City to seven points on Wednesday as they drew 1-1 at home to Leicester

City suffered a shock 2-1 loss at Newcastle 24 hours earlier and Souness says both they and Liverpool are looking anxious

"They're a wee bit nervy at the moment which surprises me," Souness said of Liverpool on Sky Sports

"Squeaky bum time normally comes three or four games out but with 14, 15 games to go it's happening I think to both City and them

"I'll be interested to see how City go today and how Liverpool are tomorrow night [against West Ham]

"But the next 90 minutes is all you can focus on."    Ferguson famously branded the latter stages of the 2003 title race "squeaky bum time" as the United legend started the mind games with Arsene Wenger

"They [Arsenal] have a replay against Chelsea and if they win it they would face a semi-final three days before playing us in the league," Ferguson said at the time

"But then they did say they were going to win the Treble, didn't they? It's squeaky bum time and we've got the experience now to cope

"  Spurs' win over Newcastle on Saturday has brought them into the title race in some people's eyes

But Souness does not think that will play on the mind of City or Liverpool heading into their matches this weekend

"When you're in their situation, all you do is focus on the 90 minutes in front of you," he continued

"You can't look too far down the road.  "At the beginning of December City were out in front and you were thinking it's all over

Football is not like that. "For City, for Spurs, for Liverpool it's all about the next 90 minutes, that's the important game, that's all you can focus on

"When you get to the other side of that, you focus on the next one. "So what Tottenham did yesterday, that won't be in their thoughts at all

Man City News - Souness makes massive claim about Manchester City in title race - Duration: 2:18.

Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness says Manchester City are likely to have to win every one of their remaining games if they are to retain their Premier League title

City slipped to third in the table on Saturday, a point behind Tottenham and crucially five points behind Liverpool who extended their advantage over Pep Guardiola's side in midweek

No-one has retained the top-flight title since Manchester United won it for a third year in a row in 2008/09, and Souness says City now face a daunting uphill task if they are to follow in the footsteps of their near neighbours

"They look like having to win every game they've got left," the Sky Sports pundit wrote in his Sunday Times column

"City cannot afford any more slips and that brings added pressure in itself.  "The title race will be decided by who handles the pressure best

"City have Everton away on Wednesday, then Chelsea at home on Sunday, but I come back to taking one game at a time and first they must beat Arsenal at home today

"  Meanwhile, City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne thinks that both his side and Liverpool have different pressures to handle in the title race

"I think Liverpool will be under some pressure because they have not won it for that amount of time [29 years]," he told Sky Sports

"But we have pressure because we were the champions last year and everybody expects us to be one of the title challengers

"I'm not sure who has more pressure, but there is pressure on both teams.

Arsenal news: Emery's FAILED January transfer window plan, Denis Suarez claim, Petit talks - Duration: 4:31.

Arsenal news - Unai Emery reveals failed plans for January transfer window Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed he was hoping to sign three players in the January transfer window

"The club was working all we can," Emery said. "We were speaking about the possibility of maybe taking three players, but only if they can come here with our conditions, and also if we think they can help us with good performances, better than the players we have here

"Only Denis Suarez joined and we're happy. The club worked very well. "This transfer window is not easy and it isn't possible to change a lot of things to help us with a very big performance

"And I am very happy with the players we have here. We have some players who are recovering after injuries and I think they can help us with the final three months of the season

"We have a very big motivation in our competition in the Premier League and the Europa League, and I think for example that Sunday is a very big and tough match

"But it's a great match for us to show everybody how we are now against Manchester

It's very difficult but I trust in my players."Arsenal news - Ian Wright hails Denis Suarez Arsenal's former record goalscorer Ian Wright believes his old side have signed a 'very good player' in Denis Suarez, who joined the club from Barcelona on Thursday

"What I like about Suarez is he's a capable and very good player," Wright said on his Youtube channel

"Unai knows him very well from their time at Sevilla and they won the Europa League together which is a good thing

"I know he's not played a lot for Barcelona, but he's a player that the manager wants

"When a manager wants you, that kind of gives you a lot of confidence. "It's what he wants, so you're hoping that him playing in midfield, and he can play on the wing, diminutive, good skills, you're hoping that he can come and make a difference in respect of creativity for us

Because that's what we need. "Because at the moment you feel if you can keep [Alexandre] Lacazette or [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang quiet, then I'm not sure where our goals are coming from

"Arsenal news - Emmanuel Petit makes top four prediction Former Arsenal and France midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal will miss out on the top four for a third season in a row

"How can you say Arsenal have a chance in an away match against City when you see the way they have played away from home this season?" said Petit

"They play so well to beat Tottenham and Chelsea at home and then lose to Southampton, West Ham and Liverpool in horrible away performances

This is not the results of a team that will finish in the top four. "When I look at Manchester City and Liverpool, they play with the same style at home as they do away and that is not the case for Arsenal this season

"All the teams chasing the top four positions are feeling the breath of Manchester United on their shoulders and I would expect them to find a way to finish in the top four

"Chelsea and Arsenal have shown inconsistency this season and yet we have seen a very different United since [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer replaced [Jose] Mourinho and I believe they have the talent in their squad to continue to win games

"Tottenham are looking good to finish in the top four, but if I had to pick a team to get the final qualifying place for next season's Champions League, it would be United
