South Korean comfort women activist dies at 93 South Korea News Al Jazeera

Kim Bok dong spent years demanding justice for Japans wartime sexual violence against women.

At 93, Kim Bok dong died as she had lived for many years: at the heart of the controversy over s use of forced labour in its wartime brothels.

Kim, who died on Monday at a hospital in the capital of Seoul, was a fixture at weekly protests outside the Japanese embassy calling for a sincere apology and compensation.

She remained angry at Japan until the end, her supporters said.

"She suddenly opened her eyes yesterday and told a long story... I couldnt decipher everything but one thing I could hear clearly was that we had to fight until the end," said Yoon Mee hyang, who leads an advocacy group for the women.

"Then she expressed strong anger toward Japan as she continued talking, before she regained her tranquillity."

Kim was among the two dozen known surviving South Korean "comfort women", a Japanese euphemism for women forced into prostitution and sexually abused at Japanese military brothels before and during World War II.

Activists say they plan to march alongside Kims coffin past Japans embassy on Friday, a demonstration that could further strain ties between Seoul and Tokyo.

The two Asian neighbours share a bitter history stemming from Japans 1910 45 colonisation of the Korean Peninsula.

Kim was 14 when she was first sent to a military brothel and forced to provide sex for Japanese soldiers in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, Yoon said. She became one of the first victims to come forward in 1992.

In 2012, Kim and another former comfort woman, Gil Won ok, established the Butterfly Fund to help victims of sexual violence in armed conflicts around the world. National media reported Kim donated her life savings, 50 million won US dollar 44,762 to the organisation.

Articulate and charismatic, Kim was a vocal critic of a 2015 deal in which Tokyo apologised to the victims and provided dollar 9.1m to a fund in Seoul to help them.

Kim said it was not sincere because some Japanese leaders continued to deny the women were forced to work in brothels.

"We wont accept it even if Japan gives 10 billion yen. Its not about money. Theyre still saying we went there because we wanted to," Kim told a parliamentary session in 2016.

South Korean President s government has said it will not seek to renegotiate the 2015 deal. Last year, it vowed to the Japan sponsored fund and pursue a more "victim oriented" approach.

Japan says the claims have been settled by past agreements and apologies, and the continued dispute may threaten relations between the two countries.

Just hours before Kim passed away, a fellow victim only identifiable by her surname Lee died, Yoon said.

Only 23 registered South Korean survivors are still alive, highlighting a sense of urgency behind efforts by the women to receive a formal apology and legal compensation from Japan while their voices can still be heard.

Man City injury news: Latest on Mendy, Bravo and Kompany - Duration: 2:14.

There could be good news on the Man City injury front as it appears goalkeeper Claudio Bravo could return from the sidelines sooner than expected

It was initially predicted that the Chilean would miss the entirety of the season after rupturing his achilles tendon, forcing manager Pep Guardiola to promote Aro Muric to number two

But he recently shared a video of himself running on a cross trainer, which could point to an earlier than anticipated return for the shot stopped

The video was in response to reports in Chile that Bravo had suffered an infection post surgery and would not only be ruled out for the season but also this summer's Copa America

The reports were denied by the Blues.    Another player to return from injury - hopefully sooner - is left-back Benjamin Mendy, who has been out since November after undergoing knee surgery

Pep Guardiola recently offered an update on the Frenchman's condition and he should be back in action for when the Champions League resumes in February

Guardiola said: "He's much better, not with the team, maybe two or three weeks and he'll be with us

everyone else is fit."  Elsewhere, City captain Vincent Kompany is a 'slight doubt' for this Sunday's clash with Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium with a muscle injury

However, fellow Belgian Kevin de Bruyne looks raring to return to the starting eleven after playing 30 minutes in the 3-0 win over Wolves on Monday night and setting up the third goal

Man Utd news: 'He needs to do a lot more' - Paul Ince on United star ahead of Leicester - Duration: 2:16.

That is the verdict of BT Sport pundit and former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Ince

Martial put pen to paper on a new deal on Thursday to keep him at Old Trafford until 2024

The news comes just six months after his agent confirmed the forward wanted to leave the club

Martial fell out with former manager Jose Mourinho in pre-season after failing to return to the tour of the USA following the birth of his son

But the Frenchman has been a regular under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, starting five of the six Premier League matches since the Norwegian was appointed in December

Ince is pleased to see Martial end speculation over his future and commit himself to United

But he admits there is plenty of improvement with his game that is still needed. "You'd like to think so [it's the start of a new era]," Ince said

"You probably think that two or three months ago Martial was reported to wanting to leave the club and go somewhere else according to his agent

"So obviously with the fact he has now put pen to paper on a five-year contract, it's great for the club, great for the fans

"He needs to do a bit more. I still think there is a lot more, he's only young he's 23, but he needs to do a lot more

" Martial missed the 2-2 draw with Burnley on Wednesday due to injury.   But he is set to return to the squad for the trip to Leicester on Sunday

Paul Pogba has made the journey to the East Midlands despite being an injury doubt

But Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling will all miss the match.

Arsenal news: Gunners want hero to return this summer… fans will love this - Duration: 2:51.

Overmars, who spent three years with Arsenal during his playing days, is currently Ajax's director of football

The Dutch side have denied that the former winger has been approached by Arsenal though the Gunners are believed to be considering a move

But the Daily Mail report that the Dutchman won't be the only one on the Gunners' list as they shuffle around their backroom staff

Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has handed in his resignation after being overlooked for a senior role at the club

He leaves next week with former chief executive Ivan Gazidis having departed the Emirates recently

Now a director of football is wanted and while the Mail report that Overmars is the front runner, Monchi is also set to be considered

Arsenal's head of football Raul Sanllehi is leading the search having previously been Barcelona's director of football

And transfer expert Ian McGarry believes it's a good move for Arsenal to hire someone for that position

"A director of football at Arsenal? I think it's sensible, given how much [Arsene] Wenger micro-managed every-single transfer of every-single player they scouted," McGarry said

"My favourite example was having Jose Antonio Reyes, who was at the time the club's record signing, watched 43 times in person by Arsenal's scouts before they decided to sign him

"Wenger was notoriously vesicatory when it came to actually commit to signing a player

"So, there's more people to take the credit or, if you like, to take the blame for signings now

"It's probably a good move for Arsenal so I think they will move quickly. "They don't want to be going into perpetrations for a big summer transfer window with no head of recruitment

" Arsenal are back in action on the field this afternoon. They travel to Manchester City in the Premier League (4

30pm).

Man City News - Jurgen Klopp: I know I can win title with Liverpool because I did it at Dortmund! - Duration: 3:02.

Liverpool have been excellent this season, playing attacking throughout, while also being defensively solid at the back

They currently lead the chasing pack by five points, having gained another point on their rivals Manchester City on Wednesday night when they drew to Leicester

City have lost four times this season in the league, already double what they lost in their record-setting campaign last year

The signing of Virgil Van Dijk last January has turned Jurgen Klopp's men into a team with the best defensive record in the league this season

And former Roma goalkeeper Alisson's arrival has steadied the ship for the Merseyside team too

But Klopp, whose side visits the London Stadium on Monday to play West Ham, has insisted he isn't feeling the pressure to deliver

"I am not a nervous person and so I was never nervous before we won the first title at Dortmund

That's how it is," he said. "Experience showed me that the way I did it in the past worked, so I didn't change

"The only thing I always knew is to do the right thing as often as possible. "You have to stay focused on your own way and don't think about the other things around, and do it as much and as good as you can

" Liverpool's run-in to title glory is regarded as a fairly easy one. They have three games against the 'top six' to come, and two of them include home fixtures against Tottenham and out-of-sorts Chelsea

They do, however, still have to go to Old Trafford and face a revitalised Manchester United

And Klopp doesn't doubt there will be nervous moments, but the German refuses to make the situation seem more serious as it is

"Will there be nervous moments? Yes, for sure," he added. "But don't make them bigger than they are because there were nervous situations last year, two years ago, three years ago

"The people here really, really want it and that's how it is. They want it with all they have

I get that and we will try with all we have, but there are no guarantees."
