Hello friends! The subway in Taiwan does surprise me
Here advertising is kawaii and floods the colored wagons.
While people look at their phone as if nothing I walk with bulging eyes and open mouth ...
Now I understand why there are people who look at me weird ...
The stations are spotless because drinking and eating on the subway is prohibited
It has already happened more than once to bring the drink in my hand and bring it to my mouth as usual ...
thank goodness Han warns me every time.
But the best thing is that the walkways that enter and exit the car are marked on the floor
and the most important thing is that people respect it 100%
Without leaving the subway, we arrive at our first stop...
Located in the busiest station in Kaohsiung(Formosa Boulevard station), "the Dome of Light" has a diameter of 30 meters
and is made with 4500 panels of painted glass,
what makes it the largest illuminated glass dome in the world
Narcissus Quagliata, author of this exceptional work, evokes in this history of the cosmos and of human life in four themes:
Water, the womb of life
Land, prosperity and growth
Light, the creative spirit
and Fire, destruction and rebirth.
On December 10, 1979, near the place where this station is currently located,
a group of Kuomintang opponents (KMT) held a commemorative demonstration of Human Rights Day
with the intention of promoting and demanding the democratization of the island that lived under a fierce martial law for 30 years.
The government arrested the main leaders of this movement
and these events helped unite their opponents, marking a turning point in the democratization of Taiwan.
With this explosion of color, the author sends a message of love, tolerance and commemorates those heroes
who helped introduce the political changes that ensured the liberties of all Taiwanese.
After this brief stop we'll continue our journey ...
The now known as the lotus pond is very popular for its lotus flowers
and for its profusion of temples dedicated to different deities.
But the truth is this artificial lake was created as an irrigation system
that will favor the development and prosperity of the agricultural industry in the area.
We're going to visit some of the most peculiar and photogenic temples although I must say that they're not the oldest
Dragon and Tiger Pagodas were completed in 1976 and constitute an icon for Kaohsiung.
To reach them we must cross a bridge in zig-zag of nine corners.
In popular culture odd numbers are a good augury and especially the 9, because it's the largest odd number,
It's also believed that spirits and demons can't cross zig-zag bridges
A sign indicates that you have to enter by the mouth of the dragon and go out from the tiger's
in order to get rid of your bad luck and increase your good fortune.
Who am I to contradict him ...
OMG if I came in through your mouth, you know where I'm going to go ...
Who is going to tell me that coming to Taiwan would end up turning into a dragon poop ...
come ... let's go inside!
The interior of the dragon is decorated with reliefs that represent the two faces of life.
These paintings They show characters from Buddhist and Taoist histories.
On the left side they're represented in "the 24 stories of filial piety"
whose intention is to inspire people to do good deeds during their life,
thus avoiding the terrifying punishments for their wrong actions, located on the right side with those known as "18 layers of hell".
A spiral staircase allows you to ascend the seven floors of the pagoda
which represent the seven factors of enlightenment described by Buddha.
Without a doubt, it's worth getting exhausted to the top floor to enjoy the beautiful views offered by the lake.
When descending, I guess you'll be as tired as the vast majority of people
you won't even go through the way to climb the tiger pagoda
in order to go out, you have to enter the tiger's bum.
Inside the reliefs they represent the 72 disciples of Confucius
and the 36 acolytes of the emperor that protects life or Baosheng Dadi (保生大帝).
Like tiger vomit, we leave behind bad luck in the direction of the next temple.
Built in 1953, the Spring and Autumn Pavilions are traditional Taoist style
and they're dedicated to the God of War Kuan Kung (關公)
A large statue of Guanyin (觀音), the Goddess of Mercy, was built by her believers
according to a local legend, it appeared in the sky in front of the two pavilions.
Along with Guanyin (觀音) are his acolytes Longnu (龍女), the daughter of the dragon
and Shancai (善財) the Boy of the Benevolent abundance.
Upon entering the jaws of the dragon, you'll find representations of the 33 manifestations of Guanyin (觀音)
described in the "universal door" chapter of the Lotus Sutra,
as well as reliefs of the disciples of Buddha.
A bridge connects the two pavilions with a smaller pavilion known as the five-mile pavilion,
a symbol of prosperity fortune and peace
Today is being quite culturally enriching ...
to the point that we can confirm with absolute certainty that this dragon is not constipated.
Completed in 1995, after 4 years of work this pavilion is dedicated to the god Xuan Tian (玄天上帝),
also known as the Supreme Emperor of the Dark Sky and Guardian of the North.
This is a name of deity and unlike the previous ones ...
To get to the pavilion, you have to walk along a long bridge decorated with statues of other deities.
The statue of Xuan Tian (玄天上帝) is an impressive sculpture of 24 meters that can be seen from other points of the lake.
If Uncle Pencho didn't see it, he doesn't need glasses but an eye operation.
Under the statue, there is a small sanctuary built like a cave
where people can pay respect to the god, they say they care for the residents of the region.
At the entrance of the temple, there is a little machine. When you put a coin, a lady brings you a piece of paper with your fortune.
It's quite interesting although it's a pity that the prediction is only in Chinese.
After enjoying what we could call the most kitsch religious iconography of Kaohsiung and perhaps of all Taiwan,
let's fill the belly. But that's another story should be told at another time.
I hope this video has been interesting for you and don't forget to give me a thumbs up,
subscribe to the channel to be aware of my adventures for Taiwanese lands
and leave me some little message that I'll respond delightedly.
Catch you later! Bye
