Welcome to Numismat
Today we have the chronicle of an announced scam and the analysis of a fake piece of 8 reales chick
One of the most sought after pieces by collectors is the 8 reales silver coin from Iturbide
This coin was purchased at an auction site on the Internet announced as 8 reales of 1822, but before issuing any judgment, let's analyze the piece and see what we find
As a main reason we can see the effigy of the mexican emperor Agustín de Iturbide and from here the design looks a bit suspicious
The upper part of the bust looks a bit strange, but the lower part does not show as many anomalies
The year of minting looks well defined but if we see the mark of the mint, the circle looks a bit strange and asymmetric
Another strange detail is the border with that very uneven pattern and with many variations in width, length and separation
Here one of the strangest details since the letter O is missing between R and V
So far this piece is very suspicious but let's see the other side
This eagle design is very sought after and is known as "chick"
The wings and the tail do not look so bad. Let's see it in macro.
The lower part if it is a bit suspicious, the design is weird and different from the original pieces that I've seen
This part is very evident because there are three letters T where we should have a letter I in the center
The weird border and the letters sometimes misaligned in addition to all the above mentioned we are led to think that this coin is obviously fake
Is the edge smooth? Is this a joke? Everything seems to indicate that this is a clear scam
By the way, before making the purchase was asked a question explicit and the seller replied that the coin was genuine
Although from the beginning, it was already rare to see an auction of $25 USD of a coin that usually costs more than $200 USD
The measurements are acceptable for the range that these pieces allows
The weight is also acceptable and is within the appropriate threshold
With the help of a very powerful neodymium magnet, a test was made that showed that is not ferromagnetic, however, it was not absolut inert to the action of the magnet
Everything seems to indicate that it is an apocryphal piece made of silver and although to the naked eye It looks like a genuine coin, has an overwhelming amount of errors
Even so, let's see what coins are with us today
Look at this, in silver, the famous dollar Peace dollar, what a beautiful piece
From Panama, the coin of one balboa in silver and with that beautiful portrait full of details, wow.
From Japan, the one yen coin with that beautiful dragon. Do not miss the video that we have in the channel of this piece. By the way, the piece has already been analyzed and is totally genuine.
The moral of this video is that we have to be very careful where we buy and to whom our pieces so this does not happen again to a friend's cousin
