This week on TGC News, SHOT show thieves, Walther gets bold, a 3 gun virtual reality
game and the entire industry is on
the struggle bus!
Welcome back to another episode of TGC News, the only gun news show that covers things
you actually care about, my name is Jon Patton.
First up this week is another throwback to shot show.
However, it's a less than positive thing.
For those that are unaware, SHOT show is a massive thing.
It requires a ridiculous amount of people to make it all come together.
That being said, this year two forklift operators decided that they were going to rob 4 different
gun companies while moving stuff around the show this year.
According to reports, the two men stole over 65 firearms including silencers and machine
guns.
Included in that mountain of stuff, 8 pistols from Tisas, 35 silencers from AAC, yup 35.
From 50 cal to 22.
Then a few other pistols like glocks, remingtons, rugers, and a few other brands and an MP5,
an M4 and a couple other odds and ends.
Honestly it's an absurd thing for them to take out of there without being seen.
But here's the thing, all the guns on the shot show floor are required to have their
firing pins removed or modified so that the guns can't fire.
So when the ATF were trying to solve this case, they reached out to local shops in vegas
and told them to be on the lookout for people looking to get their guns serviced specifically
regarding firing pins.
Most intelligent people would think that they can't be that stupid to take it to a local
shop but that's exactly how they got caught.
They've both been charged with theft of a firearm from an FFL, possession of a stolen
firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm and unlawful possession of a machine gun.
I suspect these two morons might be spending some time in jail.
The question comes to mind, with the massive amount of firearms being moved around in that
expo center, where was the security during all of this?
I can't imagine this is the first time this has happened over the years and stealing 65
guns and silencers is a big freakin' deal.
And that also makes me wonder, what do you guys think is the best way to prevent theft
of a gun in your life?
Do you use a gun safe every day?
Or do you just leave things out and about in your home?
I'm curious to know how you guys handle things.
Obviously everyone's homelife is a different situation so the answers will be all over
the place but i still find it interesting to know how you guys choose to do things.
Now I think it's time to get into some more positive news.
Right?
I think most people will agree that one of the most fun things you can do with your guns
is compete.
There's things like IDPA, USPSA, Skeet, Trap, Cowboy Action, NRL and of course 3 gun.
3gun specifically has grown at an immense rate in the late few years which is awesome
and thanks to such growth, that has allowed 3-gun Nation to release a virtual reality
3 gun video game.
Yep.
You heard that correctly.
You will now be able to download 3-gun nation VR and play through a bunch of stages that
are intended to represent actual stages from matches.
And while the game play isn't anywhere near what I would call realistic, and you don't
actually use the sights on the guns, I think there's some definite upside to getting the
shooting sports out there a lot more.
Pete Brown, president of 3-gun nation, said "Nothing can replace real firearm training
and safety, however if we can push a fraction the game users to get real training, the technology
can only help us grow and create new shooters," And I agree with him entirely.
Next up in some positive news, Walther has done something really interesting.
They've actually come up with something that I've never seen when it comes to the way people
buy guns with 2 new programs specifically for their PPQ.
They are so confident in those guns that they are offering a 30 day money back guarantee
so basically you can go buy yourself a PPQ and if you don't love it, you can return it
to walther within the first 30 days to get a full refund.
They will literally buy the gun back from you if you don't love it.
Thats bold.
But what's also bold is the sort of sister program.
it's called Try before you buy.
The way this works is that you go to the website, select a participating dealer in your state
and request a voucher for up to $1,000 to purchase a walther PPQ.
They do this by pre-authorizing your credit card for that amount.
Then if you don't love the gun within 30 days, you can return it, without paying a dime.
If you decide you want it, they charge your card the purchase price for the gun.
I gotta be honest,this is brilliant for a couple reasons.
One, if you were on the fence about the gun and the only thing holding you back was some
rounds down the pipe at your own range, this could be the thing to push you over the edge
and two, if the PPQ needed a kick in the sales department this will do it.
I was going to try out the voucher thing myself but the only dealer in PA is 3 hours from
me and I'm not about to drive that far to pick up a gun.
That and the $1,000 voucher won't cover the new steel frame gun.
Either way this is a really neat way to get people excited and I'm curious to know how
many of you out there would try out something like this.
Does it make you trust the product more because of the level of confidence they have in it?

The struggle bus is back.
This time, SilencerCo is riding.
Back in the summer of 2018, they ran a promotion where essentially if you bought a certain
amount of their cans, you would get free silencers for doing that.
The more you spent, the more you got, up to 3 free cans if you spent something like 2500
bucks.
Well here's the thing, it's sort of backfired on them.
The program was so successful that they were completely overwhelmed by the response and
incorporated with the gubment being shut down for a little but, things have been incredibly
slow going.
A significant amount of people are still waiting on their free cans.
Just the other day they put out a notice regarding the issue.
Among the apology for being behind the 8 ball, they stated that people will be getting their
free silencers by June 29th, 2019.
Meaning the cans will be delivered to dealers by then.
Meaning you won't be able to start the paperwork with that incredibly long wait until June.
Almost a year after the initial promo period.
Ouch.
I know SilencerCo has suffered their own shake ups and setbacks in recent years just like
every other silencer manufacturer but this is not great for them.
Hopefully this olive branch will help save them from some of the backlash.

According to Reuters, the trump slump is still happening.
Back in January, The NSSF published data stating that gun sales in 2018 were down 6.1 percent
year over year and almost a million firearms less than in 2017.
This is all done with estimations based on background checks and percentages of transfers
and blah blah blah, it's close enough for our purposes.
We've talked about this industry normalization many times here on TGC and this confirms it
once again.
Hopefully 2019 will work out to be a good year in the end and don't worry just because
we are down a little bit does not negate the fact that people bought over 13 million guns
last year.
