Malaysia: Epic jungle camp!
Sweeties, I can tell you that this is not a light one!
I'm very lucky today
It's our 3rd day near Merapoh
And I am alone with many women
Solenne is once more behind the camera
There are Odile and Ain We were already with them yesterday
They work for Fuze Ecoteer
And we are truly honored to be accompanied by 5 ladies from the Batek tribe
They live close to Merapoh
They invited us for a night camp out in the rainforest
We stopped folding leaves and branches to take a lunch break
We are building the foundations of our shelter for tonight
The Batek ladies left us for a while
They do not feel confident here
They are afraid that the rain could destroy the big trees around us
And they don't want us to get crushed while we sleep
They are already looking for a plan B
We also would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about the Batek
We believe they deserve to be known and met
They are one of the aborigine tribes of the Malaysian peninsula
They belong to the so-called "Orang Asli", the original people of Malaysia
Today they live as semi-nomads They have an official village made of bricks
But they still need the freedom to go live in the forest from times to times
They don't have any proper schedule They just move when they feel they want to
20 years ago, the Malaysian government decided to give them a legal identity
So that they would be allowed to get an education as everyone
But in the Batek society there is no concept of ground property
For some people, this has been an opportunity to take over some parts of the forest
While the Batek would get sedentarized in official villages
This is an issue as the Batek origins and customs belong to the forest
Sweeties, our small house for tonight is getting in shape
I am proud to have helped... during 5 minutes I feel ashamed
But it looks solid! They are real professionals!

These roots smell quite good I thought they might be edible
But they just told me not to do so
They use them as a yellow make-up They apply it on their face and neck
Maybe will they put it on my face too? :-)
We had a little surprise this evening We could take a bath!
We went naked in the river! We did not film it of course :-)
We went one after the other... We are serious people here!
Now we enjoy our well-deserved dinner We steamed everything in bamboos
Chicken, garlic, onions, ginger, potatoes, tomatoes, beans and rice mixed together
Delicious! We all do enjoy it!
Are we ready to sleep Solenne? - Yes, we are!
Sweeties, we are in our shelter
Built all days long with the Batek, Odile, and Ain
It's quite early, 8 p.m. But it's already dark and we're about to sleep
We'll leave you tonight with the sweetest lullaby ever
This music has been played here for millions of years
It's the music of the rainforest! Please enjoy it...
