Nelson Oliveira left with gruesome facial injury after Tyrone Mings stamp - News Today - Duration: 1:49.
Reading striker Nelson Oliveira was left covered in blood after a gruesome incident in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday
He was on the receiving end of a stamp from Tyrone Mings in what appeared to be an accidental incident as the pair jostled for the ball
The full-back, making his Villa debut, was left off balance as the Portuguese forward fell in front of him and he landed heavily on his face
Mings escaped without any punishment whilst Oliveira was forced to depart the game after being heavily bloodied, with neither side able to break the deadlock after the striker left the field
The defender reacted after the game on social media and offered an apology to his opposition, tweeting: "Absolutely loved wearing the claret and blue today and over the moon with the clean sheet! @AVFCOfficial
"Feel awfully sorry to Oliveira, I hope he is ok." Meanwhile, a photo of Oliveira has emerged after the game showing the full extent of the damage
It shows two significant gashes on his face caused by Mings' studs, one just above his left eye and one right on his nose
Mings has been involved in a controversial stamping incident before, being hit with a five-game ban in March 2017 after a stamp on Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a game between Manchester United and Bournemouth
