Ilkay Gundogan has revealed his surprise in Arsenal boss Unai Emery opting against playing Mesut Ozil regularly this season

Manchester City midfielder Gundogan has played alongside Ozil for the German national team, and considers his compatriot to be hugely talented

But Ozil has struggled for regular game time this campaign and has on occasion been overlooked for 'tactical' reasons, according to Emery

Gundogan, whose Manchester City team take on Arsenal this Sunday, explained he understands a manager has a tough job in picking an XI every week

But suggested Ozil should be one of the first names on Emery's teamsheet.   Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals surprise backing to become Man Utd boss full-time   The German told Sport360: "Obviously we always watch games and, even me, we always think we know better

But on the pitch it's always a different story.  "A player like him, with his huge talent, I don't think it just surprises just me, but a lot of people, that he doesn't play regularly

Jurgen Klopp has advice for "desperate" Liverpool fans with title-race jitters  "[Emery] always has to choose who to pick and try to divide game time throughout the whole squad

That's a very tough thing to do.  "In a team like Manchester City, Arsenal, and other big clubs, it's quite difficult just to have the same 11 players starting every week

From my own experience, the more you play, back-to-back games, the better you feel, with more self confidence and rhythm

Tottenham news: Why Mauricio Pochettino will NEVER support Arsenal - even against Man City - Duration: 2:53.

Pochettino's side moved up to second in the Premier League after their 1-0 win over Newcastle in Saturday's early kick-off

City can go back above them with a draw or a win at home to Arsenal on Sunday. However, Pochettino claims his love for Tottenham means he will not be able to bring himself to become an Arsenal fan for the day

When asked if he would be cheering them on, he replied: "No, why? Never! "I am going to watch the game

I am going to watch the game and be happy with [whatever] result that happens." Spurs were made to wait once more for their latest victory, with Heung-Min Son's fortunate winner at Wembley coming in the 83rd minute

Despite failing to sign any players in the last two transfer windows, Pochettino has led Spurs to four wins in their last five Premier League games despite having a number of key players missing

Harry Kane is out until early March with an ankle injury, while Dele Alli will not be back until mid-way through next month because of a hamstring problem

And Pochettino insists he is happy withe shape of his squad and believes they have the ability to challenge for the league title

"We don't need to be in some positions to convince ourselves about our capacity or potential," he added

"We always believe in ourselves and then different things make us capable of fighting until the end and for the title

"But today, I think, we are there because we deserve to be there and we will see what happens in the future

"It's easy to say or praise the mentality in some parts. We are showing the mentality but to win the games, sometimes you need some luck, some coincidences and some situations

"For me, the most important is that the team is in a great level of belief, character and mentality

"We are showing that we can win in any stadium and any club and that is important

Everyone believes that this squad would be capable of being here."
