Life is full of challenges and we were thinking of various challenges last
week in terms of communication for our youth conference "Pâques" and I
told myself, why not try a running challenge - run a long distance, something I enjoy doing from time to time, leave Geneva
and run to the Christmas Market in Montreux, 96 km from here. So we decided to try it
Saturday and headed out.
I find it powerful
how the Bible compares the Christian life to a race. And it's not a sprint, it's a marathon.
which involves the need to persevere and push on
beyond what we something think is possible. I remember when I did my
my first ultra-marathon, I was running next to a guy and he told me
"This is your first one?" "That's great! You know, at some point you are going to
feel terrible ... and you are going to tell yourself you just can't keep going"
"Don't worry about it. Just keep going. It will get easier, you'll make it." That helped
me and I was able to finish. Life is like that
we don't have to be just victims
of our difficulties, we can see beyond them and persevere and in the end
we you get to the end of one of these races - that changes everything
to finish, all the suffering is changed to victory with that feeling of
having accomplished something major. When we
got to Montreux, it was wonderful, towards the end we could see the lights, we made it
we were really glad. In the Christian life, it's clear that
the biggest motivation is that for the most important race of life
has already been won it for us.
Christ lived the life were should have lived
he took our bid on himself with his life and he triumphed for us
this this victory for us strengthens us and helped us persevere
and we are not alone, we are not running in our own strength
in the end God helps us, He gives us His strength
and in the end, by the triumph over our lives, he assures us we can and will finish
I know for you, young adults, your have challenges in front of you, certainly
much more important than just running to Montreux.
Christ is there for you
He wants to fill your life with his grace to take on these challenges, to persevere
to keep going. I invite you to joint us at Pâques2019 I'm hoping it will be a powerful time
where you can be encouraged, boosted, and better equiped to take on
the challenges in your life by the grace of God. A bientôt !
