Manchester United boss Mourinho helped Terry become a Chelsea legend, with the duo delivering three Premier League titles to Stamford Bridge

Meanwhile, over at Old Trafford, and Jones' long-term future at the club looks in jeopardy

The England international's popularity at the club is at an all-time low with fans still seething from his penalty shootout miss against Derby last month

Injuries have also regularly prevented him from becoming the player Sir Alex Ferguson once tipped him to be

Jones is unlikely to get any United action soon, with Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling appearing to be Mourinho's preferred centre-back axis

But the Metro claim Mourinho has privately compared Jones to Terry. However, that will not stop United from listening to offers for the 26-year-old

Jones' current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, though the club are preparing to trigger a one-year extension

The Metro claim United, however, are ready to cut him loose. And that, despite Mourinho privately thinking he can scale the same heights as Terry

United still want a new centre-back when the transfer window reopens in January. Back in the summer, Mourinho was eager to land Harry Maguire or Toby Alderweireld

However, both players ended up staying at Leicester and Tottenham respectively.  Meanwhile, Jones has recently insisted that criticism does not bother him

The United star said: "It happens to every single player, all over the world, every day

"Some get highlighted more than others, that's football. "I'm used to it now and I like to think I'm wise enough and experienced enough to deal with it and get on with it

F1 news: BTCC star Tom Ingram on the 'Lewis Hamilton effect' and his 2019 predictions - Duration: 4:37.

F1 news: BTCC star Tom Ingram on the 'Lewis Hamilton effect' and his 2019 predictions Ingram enjoyed a stellar 2018 in the BTCC, securing the Independents' Trophy with Speedworks Motorsport for the second consecutive season and just missing out on the overall honours.

The 25-year-old was at Brands Hatch on the final weekend of the campaign and was one of 17 different race winners during the series' Diamond Jubilee year. Speaking exclusively to Express Sport, Ingram said: "The good thing with BTCC is we don't know [who will win]. "From a driver's point of view, there is nothing like it.

It is such a competitive championship and you never know what you're going to get. "There is such a different performance from all the cars on the grid, but in qualifying at Silverstone eight tenths covered the top 28 cars on the grid.

"I think you need that success ballast to try and stop the same things happening every single race, and to try and stop the 'Lewis Hamilton effect' or 'Sebastian Vettel effect' of previous years where we see the same people at the front every time." The BTCC employs a system whereby cars that are successful must carry additional weight in the following round of the championship, subsequently levelling the playing field.

Ballast is given to the top 10 finishers of the previous race (with winners picking up maximum weight of 75kg) while between events the ballast is allocated according to overall championship positions and then carried in qualifying and the first round of each weekend. This is in stark contrast to F1 where a ferocious development race fuelled by massive investment produces a huge gap between the top teams and rest of the grid,.

Periods of domination such as Hamilton and Mercedes are enjoying (and previously Vettel and Red Bull or Michael Schumacher and Ferrari) tend to be cyclical until the next major set of regulation changes. The artificial nature of the BTCC ballast system may not be popular with purist motorsport fans, but Ingram recognises it's necessity in creating great racing.

"From a driver's point of view it is quite frustrating but ultimately it is a good thing for the championship," he said. "You would like the car to be on no weight every single time you drive it, but realistically you can't have that. "It's doing what it's meant to do and adding a little bit of drama.

For the teams it's very difficult because the cars change massively over the course of a race weekend and when you take the weight out or put it in they are completely different animals. "You've got to have a good engineer and you've got to have the right strategy." Looking forward to the 2019 season, the Speedworks ace is reluctant to make too many assumptions but leaves no doubt about his personal targets.

"BTCC is what I've always dreamt of doing, and the next step is to win the championship," he said. "But until we get to the first round we don't really know where everyone's pace is. "What I really like with the regulations is that they're open to development. All of the teams will have gone away at the end of the year and looked through every part of the car they want to improve.

"They could come back and have done a better job over the winter and be two steps ahead of us. "We will have some cars at the launch day next year that will look completely different and we will have some that will look exactly the same.

"We just don't know, and you can't put anyone down or think that you've already beaten them because they could put out something spectacular next season." Catch up with all the action from the 2018 season on  and watch highlights on the  and. You can also keep up to date on and .

Liverpool news: Virgil van Dijk made confession to Jurgen Klopp after Arsenal draw - Duration: 2:25.

Liverpool boss Klopp managed to keep the Reds' unbeaten Premier League record intact with a positive draw against Arsenal

The Merseyside giants appeared set for all three points at one stage, with James Milner firing them in front

Arsenal chalked off Liverpool's goal with one of their own, though, with Alexandre Lacazette rescuing a point late on to ensure their fine form under Unai Emery continue

Van Dijk could have won the game for the Anfield giants, though, spurning three good chances

And Klopp has opened up on what the Dutchman said after the Premier League draw. "A point is a good result, (Unai) Emery can say the same, but we had clear chances," the German said

"Our workhorses in midfield, we put too much on their shoulders. "And it was one time we didn't close Alex Iwobi and he plays the pass for the goal

"They had a few chances for sure, it's a home game for them. They are in a good moment

"We got a point, we deserved a point and we could have had more. "I don't feel like we dropped two points

"I saw Virgil van Dijk after the game and he said 'I should have had a hat-trick

'  "I was not a good football player but I was good at heading and today I would have scored three

" Liverpool currently sit one point clear at the Premier League summit. Arsenal, meanwhile, have slumped to fifth

Unai Emery's side have dropped four points from their last two matches and will be aiming to bounce back against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League on Thursday (8pm)
