That's the view of Danny Murphy. Real Madrid have been strongly linked with the Belgian forward, who has made it no secret that he would love to join the European champions
He said in early October: "Real Madrid is the best club in the world. We will see
In my head, sometimes I wake up in the morning and think I want to go. Sometimes I think I want to stay
It is a hard decision. It is my future. "It is like I have said a lot of times: if I leave I will be happy, I know if I stay I will be happy
" The 27-year-old has been in electric form this season with eight goals and three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions
And Real Madrid's woes - having sacked Julen Lopetegui after a poor run of results - means they will be on the look-out for a new talisman to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo's summer move to Juventus
But while many signs point to Hazard making a mega-money switch to the Bernabeu, former Liverpool and England midfielder Murphy thinks Chelsea could still hold on to their star man
That's despite Hazard having yet to put pen-to-paper on a new contract, with the No 10 down to the final 12 months of his existing deal next summer
Speaking to bookmaker bwin, Murphy said: "Hazard is the best player in the Premier League and I can see him staying at Chelsea for the long term, if he is offered the right contract
"I think his family are happy in London and there's no guarantee he would get that freedom and happiness at Real Madrid
"I think Hazard could become Chelsea's best player in history if he chooses to stay at the club
"He has conducted himself so well throughout the speculation and the fans love him even more for it
" The Telegraph meanwhile report that Chelsea are hopeful the uncertainty regarding Madrid's managerial situation will aid their hopes of keeping Hazard
The Belgium captain is awaiting a sign that Los Blancos will make a move for him in the next summer window
But the La Liga heavyweights are currently occupied trying to replace the sacked Lopetegui, with Santiago Solari the interim boss
Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had been tipped to take over but negotiations with the Italian have stalled
And having been linked to the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Roberto Martinez - it remains no clearer who Real will look to appoint as their new long-term coach
It is claimed Chelsea are hoping the distractions in Madrid will allow them to reopen £300,000-a-week contract negotiations with Hazard
But it is thought no decision will be made until the New Year, when their situation becomes clearer and Chelsea's chances of challenging for the Premier League title this term are truly put to the test
