Boxing news: Dec Spelman reveals all on Scott Westgarth tragedy - Duration: 9:39.

Boxing news: Dec Spelman reveals all on Scott Westgarth tragedy   Spelman takes part in The Ultimate Boxxer on Friday night at the Indigo O2 Arena. He will fight for just the second time since that fateful night in Doncaster, when his 31-year-old opponent lost his life. Westgarth passed away the day after the bout, having suffered extreme head trauma. The day after he died, his organs were used to save the lives of seven people.

Most people forget that Westgarth beat Spelman that night via, but the Scunthorpe lad refuses to forget that fact, and says everything he does in his career is for him. Speaking to Express Sport, Spelman recounted that fateful night, and says it helped to shape him as a fighter, knowing that he could show just how good Westgarth was through his own performances. "He beat me," Spelman said. "He was a big underdog on that night, but he beat me. "Whatever I go on to do now, he was capable of doing himself, and I have to remember that.

"Everything I do now, I do in his memory." Spelman will be watched on Friday night by Westgarth's brother and father. Adam Westgarth, Scott's brother, is friends with Spelman, and will be sat ringside as the light-heavyweight takes on the tournament. "I've been in constant contact with his brother, Adam and his Dad, John, I speak to his Mum a bit as well, but mainly Adam," he added. "They've welcomed me with welcome arms, and it's so nice and comforting.

"Adam was at my last fight, we've just kept in touch. "He just messaged me and said he bought two VIP tickets and he'll be there Friday." Spelman revealed that he first properly met the pair at a Costa Coffee, and was nervous about meeting the relatives of the tragic fighter. "I think I got a message the day after asking how I was," he explained. "I met up with his Dad and his brother about two weeks after, we met up in a Costa Coffee.

"That took some balls to do, because I met up with them both on my own, we just spoke about him and got to know about him as a person more than anything. "I was scared, emotions were running high and that, but nothing happened. "I suppose that it made me feel better knowing he had come from a boxing family. "They understood a lot more than the average Joe. "They understood a lot more and that's what made it easier for me."   Most fighters lose a competitive edge after going through what Spelman went through.

Chris Eubank was never the same after hospitalising Michael Watson, Nigel Benn only won twice again after his encounter with Gerald McClellan. Spelman seems to have a different attitude, however, believing that it is his obligation to fight on in Westgarth's memory. "I think about him every day," he admitted. "It's only human to think that. "That's something I will live with for the rest of my life.

"I like it like that, I don't want to forget him. "It's something I have to bare with me, and it's a consequence of boxing. "I live with it every day, and I turn it into a positive. When asked if he would dedicate any future wins to Westgarth, Spelman's response was simply: "Absolutely." Ultimate Boxxer II will be shown live and exclusive on FaceBook via SPORTbible , before going live on Freeview on Channel 5Spike . The Yorkshire fighter defended his strap successfully on three occasions thereafter until he faced a rampant Errol Spence Jr, who he lost to via knockout. Eight months prior, Brook took him his biggest purse when he fought against pound-for-pound star Gennady Golovkin, who took Brook's 0 with a stoppage in the fifth round. Brook's promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed that 'Special K' would return to action on December 8, headlining a Sheffield Arena card. That was despite clamour for Brook to fight Khan,.

Brook has been keeping in shape in Fuertaventura, as he gears up to his first fight in nine months. Ingle, meanwhile, has been in Toronto training other fighters under his tutelage. In the meantime, Brook, who Ingle believes has two fights left in him - one being Khan - has been training with John Fewkes and Adam Etches in Spain.   The trainer revealed last week: "Things move on but at this moment in time he's not actually phoned me and said 'I've got a new trainer.' "I am not too concerned at the moment." And Brook has now addressed the speculation about the pair's falling out on Twitter, saying: "Contrary to some stories and speculation, myself and Dominic Ingle have not fallen out.

"Dom is as dedicated a trainer as they come. He has been in camp [in Toronto] over recent months preparing fighters for big fights."     Brook went on to explain: "I am now scheduled to fight on December 8th and to avoid disruption as well as ensuring I maintain momentum, I will continue to base myself out here in Fuertaventura for this bout.

"Preparation has this far gone very well and in the interest of maintaining this momentum, for this particular fight, Dom Ingle cannot be in my corner. "Meticulous work, dedication, preparation and focus has gone into this camp and I will continue to grind until fight week." Related articles: Amir Khan and Kell Brook TRADE INSULTS as fans wait on fight confirmation. A Khan vs Brook match-up has been touted since the former returned to the ring in April, but protracted contract talks have led to Brook facing another opponent for his next bout.

Eddie Hearn promotes both fighters and is keen to make the huge domestic contest, but contractual technicalities brought negotiations to an impasse. Brook agreed to drop down from super welterweight to 147lbs to make the fight happen,. The naturally-smaller Khan wanted it so that both fighters weigh up to 147lbs the day before the fight but can't weigh more than 157lbs on the night.     It is common practice under IBF regulations, which Brook abided by during his 33-month reign as welterweight world champion.

But as the fight would be a domestic bout there is no obligation for Brook to agree to the term, and Hearn said such a stipulation is unlikely. Hearn does still expect the fight to take place in February or March 2019, but has booked Brook - who hasn't fought since March - a fight in the meantime.

The Yorkshireman's opponent will be confirmed this week and the fight will headline a Matchroom Sport card at the Sheffield Arena. Brook attended both of Khan's comeback fights this year, entering the ring to trash-talk his longtime adversary in April. Speaking to Sky Sports following the announcement of his December card, Brook said: "I was ringside for Amir Khan's last fight. "So let's see if he'll be there on December 8, or will he be too shook for Brook?" Khan reacted to his rival's words on Twitter, posting: "Really! You mention me in all your interviews saying 'i want to fight khan next.'     "All the crying you do, then u go and fight another bum.

What's the delay Kelly? "Your (sic) a joke. Ps You better not lose in December! 'I won't be ringside!'" Brook responded to Khan, attaching a picture of the 31-year-old during a Bushtucker trial on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, saying: "Who put 20p inside you last night ? "The 'delay' has always been the same Amy- waiting for you to put your webcam down and find your b******!! "And of course you won't be Ringside! This is what happens whenever you're within a 5 mile radius of me #TooShookForBrook.".
