And tell us
a little bit about
your family and professional background
and your connection to the Campos Menonitas of Chihuahua.
I belong to a family of 6,
from an upper-middle class
socioeconomic status.
I am the oldest of 4 children.
My childhood took place in a small city,
the city of Delicias, Chihuahua. At 15 years of age,
I left my family home to study
in the city of Santiago de Querétaro,
which is
the capital of the state of Querétaro, here in Mexico.
I lived there for 3 years, where I received
my high school diploma.
After that, I resided
in the United States in the state
of Colorado, for one year-
10, 11 months
studying English
as a second language.
Between the years
1973
and 1977
I studied theater and acted
in
at least a dozen plays.
In the city of
Guadalajara, Jalisco,
I completed my university studies
in Human Resource Administration
and received
my professional degree
in 1981.
A bachelor's degree. From 1981
to 1999
I lived
in Tepotzlan
in the state of Morelos
where I formed a family.
Two sons, one born in 1982,
the other born in 1988.
During
this time
I was
married twice
and my second marriage
was to a foreign man
in which
we formed a bicultural family
Italian and Mexican
with 6 members. His two sons
and my two sons
During the
nearly 20 years that I lived
in Tepotzlan,
I lived an intensely multicultural
existence due to the
diversity
of men and women from
a variety of diverse origins,
who, in those years,
1980-2000,
in those years
went to live in that rural town
which now has been categorized
as a "Pueblo Mágico" in Mexico.
A place where we shared a life project
of intercultural community.
In this community I was responsible to oversee
issues related to
education
and to offer an alternative education-
an educational pilot project
for girls and boys
from a young age all the way up through primary
and middle school.
This educational project
had as its principle objective and interest
the cultural rights
of the members of the school community
which were integrated for students
by fathers and mothers
coming from the different
continents of the world.
For 15 years I directed civic
organizations
which specifically supported
the development
and promoted
the empowerment of the rural woman.
I also coordinated,
for those same 15 years,
environmental organizations,
implementing environmental educational programs,
conservation actions,
nature conservation efforts,
particularly targeted toward
the nature reserves like
like the Corredor Biológico, Ajusto-Chichinautzin
considered to be the lungs of the
of the metropolitan zone
in the country-
in the central region
of Mexico.
I have participated as an activist
in forums
national and international debates,
in defense of the environment, gender equality
for a culture of peace
and social justice,
in addition to other topics.
In 2011,
I was named
head
of a government program
titled
Chihuahua Vive con los Menonitas.
This program is part
the Office of Social Development
within the government of the state of of Chihuahua.
This work and the responsibility
of heading the program
allowed me
the opportunity to once again
find myself
active in the area
of interculturalism.
Now-
in 2011, in the state of Chihuahua
with an ethnic group
of a migratory background
settled in Chihuahuan territory
for a little more than 90 years,
the Mennonite community.
