So, we're now on our way to duga.
well yeah, we're already there...
So I mean, we're in the van again and we're almost at Duga.
the radar system which could detect launched rockets.
Everyone is tired,
but this will be an awesome experience to all of us.
Duga was a Soviet Union over the horizon radio system.
Simply said , a radio system which was used for detecting missiles.
The system operated from 1976,
till 1989.
The Duga radars were very powerful
and broadcast in the shortwave radio bands.
The signals suddenly appeared without any warning.
because it was top secret after all.
You could hear this signals on some radiofrequenties as a rat-rat-rat sound.
Very soon the sound got a nickname : The Russian woodpecker.
it disturbed undesirable radio stations,
aviation communication
and many other communication options.
The signal became such a nuisance that some radio stations began including
'Woodpecker Blankers' in their circuit designs in an effort to filter out the interference.
So here it is, Duga!
The radio system which was build to
detecting misles that probably could be launched from America.
that gave the soviets a few minutes time to work against it.
Also something important to know is...
Earlier, when this was still a part of the Soviet Union...
This place was top secret!
Nobody was allowed to speak about this place.
On the map it was indicated as a summer camp.
to trick all the people you know...
I think those things were....

There supposed to be some ladders here...
...they even were here last year.
but...
They were removed because someone climbed to the top last year.

That's why they removed the ladders.
so, there isn't a legal way to climb up this radar system.
- You can use that cable, to climb up to the first platform,
and then use the fixed ladders.

it's like what I said before. We shouldn't know what they were doing here.

and here they probably wrote how much they liked their own countries.
I think this basin was built against America.

They built this place close the the power-plant,
because they wanted to use the power from just one single reactor,
to supply this site with power.

Nowadays...
It's nothing!
Even an Ipad is more powerful now than a radar system.
So, if there wasn't a nuclear disaster in the past...
This was probably also abandoned now.
Currently we're standing on the rooftops.

There's a way to climb higher!
The ants are very big here...

So, we can climb even higher by using the crappy stair over there!
