You want to learn a powerful technic to detangle yours wigs after 5 hours of cons or photoshoots ?
Ok, I hadn't enough money to buy a fake beard.
Today we're gonna talk about how to detangle your wigs.
Ouahhhh wigs are so fun !
Just want to tell you first that this process is only for wigs with synthetic hair
not for natural hair.
If your wig is already styled, you will not be able to clean it with this process too.
OK, I said something obvious, but there are always people who will def their wigs.
The power of internet !
Warnings and tips
I could gave you them after the process, but if you're hasty and you don't watch the video till the end
you can destroy a wig.
And in view of their prices, better burn your money directly.
Sorry, don't have enough money to burn a real banknote.
The most important thing to learn here is
DON'T BRUSH A WET WIG IF THE MANUFACTURER DISCOURAGE IT !
In this case, brush them only with detangling products without washing them.
If the manufacturer don't discourage it, brush and detangle them only with this washing method.
It's like for your natural hair, a hair will be less damaged when it's wet.
Always check the small paper with wig care instructions from the seller,
or you can check the seller's website too,
or even ask the seller if you buy you wig during a con.
Of course the way you will stock and be careful with your wigs will help them to improve their lifespan.
Take your wig, bend it into its net, and put it into it's plastic net. This way only if your wig is not styled.
Personally, I have plastic trays where I stock my wigs.
But for my styled wigs, I display them on storyfoam heads.
After a con or a shoot, we just want to remove our wig, and put them into our bag.
The best reflex is to bend it, put it into its net and into its plastic bag to take it home.
Technically it takes about 30 seconds, and it can save you from hours of detangling.
Oh and something cool to help your wigs to stay smoother and stronger
spray on them a little bit of silicone. Yep you can buy those spray cans in hardware stores.
The stuff
You will need :
A basin, relatively big to put all your wigs inside them.
A shampoo for regular or smooth hair
No shampoo for colored hair, it can dye your wig, anti-dandruff shampoo either.
You wig don't have dandruff.
Fabric softener, it has to smell good.
That's so good !
A wide tooth comb.
Bath towels.
Scissors.
You have your stuff, let's go !
The detangling process
Into a basin or a sink, wash your wig with water and a little bit of shampoo
Gently wash to lather and try not to tangle it.
You will clean you wig and put off all dust, make up and stain.
Spin lightly your wig, but DON'T RINSE IT
and display it on a bath towel on the floor or on a table.
Start from the bottom to the top of the wig to avoid stacking knots.
It's a light detangling, this is just to remove the bigger knots but if there are still few of them it's okey !
Soak your wig into a basin with water and two caps of fabric softener.
Leave it to stand no less than few hours, the best is all night long.
After the fabric softener, spin it STILL WITHOUT RINSING IT, and display is again on the floor or a table on a bath towel.
It's time to start again the detangling process as you did it before, so from the bottom to the top and slowly.
Normally all the knots will dispear, and if not, cut them !
But cut them only at last resort, because you wig will have less volume.
Take your time to rinse your wig with water, put your finger between fibers.
It will help to take off all the shampoo and the fabric softener.
Let your wig dry on a bath towel.
The drying time depends on the room temperature and the wig density.
Forget the hair dryer, you will distort or damage the hair.
When it's dry, lightly shake your curly wigs, to avoid of breaking curls.
For smooth wigs, brush them lightly with a wide tooth comb to seperate all the fibers.
Check if their are perfectly dry, before putting them into their plastic bag,
to avoid them of rotting.
And voilààà, now you should have detangled wigs and they're smelling sooo good !
The frequency of this kind of detangling process depends on how much do you wear your wigs.
Personnally after 3 or 4 shoots or cons, my wigs are starting to sulk a bit.
Between two washing-detangling, you can spray your wig with a natural detangling hair spray,
and brush them with a wide tooth comb to avoid of damaging your wig.
If you take care of your wigs with this kind of detangling, it will not damage them.
Even better : you have to do this regularly to protect them.
As of now, I didn't had to junk a wig, even my low-quality wigs.
